You're grounded for the rest of the year and just to keep you from somehow figuring out how to restore it to working condition, I'm going to be keeping it from now on."

I'm sure someone saw it and told him about it. At my work we had a co-worker who wrote a bunch of mean stuff about the bosses and hid them from the update. Without even snooping it made its way across their computer screens within an hour or two of him posting it. He probably just made it sound like he figured it out to discourage her from hiding things in the future.

I will say its a huge over reaction. I mean a lot of the time acting like that is just a huge waste of cash. Its ironic, because the parent will sit there and bitch about how you need cash and you're so expensive, but then they destroy a fucking expensive piece of property in the same breath. I mean dude, at least give the laptop to your wife or a friend, Christ.

Early to late teens, biologically and scientifically they're at their most volatile and potentially annoying. Especially post puberty and all that. It's the I hate life stage. Not saying don't punish them, not even saying his punishment was necessarily wrong, perhaps a tad excessive, to each his own. But the fact that he's making her pay him back for the laptop when he was the dumb ass who shot it up, does not bode well for his intellect.
