Upscales can look good, this upscale looks awful. It's very noisy and ugly. Almost looks like it was literally taken from the DVD rather than the uncompressed SD master.Valkyr Junkie said:Not sure why everyone is surprised; this film was almost certainly created using SD assets. The quality of the audio is the only thing important here, and it's effectively not even commented on in that "review."
Well, if it wasn't digital it'd still look better than this even without a remaster treatment on account of the superior resolution.jett said:Sad times. Looks like it isn't digital so a proper remaster could've been done. This is just a disgraceful release.

This is a straight digital upscale of the source. It very much implies I555 was created via digital means at DVD resolution, like so many animé not released in cinemas.
Codec upgrade. MPEG-2 with a 9.8Mbp/s limit is very.. limited. Especially noticeable on animation. A well-done upscale can be a huge upgrade and pretty visually pleasing.Digishine said:whats the point of putting it on bd disk if its not even HD. What a waste of the disk
Oh indeed. You can better results than those screens in real time with just about any media player available.jett said:Sux then, but the upscale job is still terrible.

The rest of Daft Punk's catalog doesn't really touch it, and "similar artists" services always just give me a bunch of mediocre French House acts.

How's the audio mix in 5.1? Better than the CD? Does it use the rear channels for music?ThirstyFly said:I just got it today from Amazon. Looks even worse than I'd expected. It's definitely an upscale, and not even a good one at that.
I'm not sure what the correct term is, but they must have messed up an interlaced frame conversion or something because it's littered with blended frames causing it to look like it's ghosting in motion. I didn't watch it all, just skipped though to see the video quality but it looks like it's poor all the way though.
I've never seen the original DVD but I simply can't imagine this is an improvement over just upscaling the DVD. Animation usually upscales quite nicely and you shouldn't get the blended frame garbage either. Save your money if you already have the DVD. Thankfully it was only 14 bucks on Amazon.ca and I've never seen the entire thing before so it's not a total waste.

Fork. Order canceled.josephdebono said:+1. It's a huge disappointment and there isn't any particular improvement in the audio either.
