DAMN IT Nintendo! Get this boolshyt together!!!

"D"

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
I was playing DKC Tropical Freeze, trying to go for 100% and I was at Bopopolis in Autumn Heights' world. I died at least 10-15 times trying to get the puzzle pieces in one run instead of completing it then starting over for each one I missed. (Most of my deaths were on purpose so I could start over) So after I died enough at this one section closer to the 4th puzzle piece it started to become committed to memory, and what happens? The goddamn Gamepad (Im playing the game on the Pro controller) battery needs to be charged even though i'm NOT USING the son of a bitch and the light starts blinking, which makes my fucking game FREEZE. I tried plugging up the Gamepad to see if that would help and unfreeze my game. Nothing. Pressed buttons, the home button, nothing. Even gave up and held the power button down on both controllers to go ahead and reset. Nope. Had to get up and physically hold the power button down on the console and reset it.

THIS is some BOOLSHYT. Nintendo, god damn. GOD damn it.

Let this be a warning to anyone, I dunno if its just isolated to Tropical Freeze. If you are using a controller other than the Gamepad, keep it charged during play cause its hella easy to forget, especially with the piss poor battery life on it.

I had my gamepad plugged in the entire time while playing Tropical Freeze. Somewhere in the distance, I advice you to do the same.

It's Tropical Freeze, what did you expect.

Jokes apart, I can only say that this never happened to me, so I'm not sure...

Noted. Its charging as we speak

If it makes you feel any better, my DS4 did pretty much the same thing playing Dead Nation the other night. It's not just Nintendo.

nasty bug though.

#1 - isolated incident. My pad has lost power/died numerous times while playing and I've never had this happen.

#2 - It actually may not be related and just be a coincidence.

#3 - If you are using the pro controller, why didn't you just leave the gamepad plugged in? I play Tropical Freeze with the pro, and I just leave the pad alone.

Probably a problem on DKCTF's code path where it displays the "Your battery is getting low." message.

There was no warning or nothing like most games tell you in the corner of the screen or something the battery is getting low. Wackness

Interesting, I haven't had any controllers die yet while play DKC: TF, but funny enough, of the 7 or so Wii U games I own, that's the only one that hasn't frozen up on me yet, but I figure if I give it enough time it will.

Bopopolis is a harsh time for it to freeze up, though. Took me about an hour and dozens of lives to complete that stage last night, including getting all puzzle pieces.

If you have a "Deluxe" system, just keep your gamepad in the charge cradle when you're not using it.

That having been said, Nintendo really needs to add the ability to play your Wii U without having the gamepad turned on. It's a massive nuisance when you just want to pick up the pro controller and play for a bit.

Cause I had the Gamepad charged previously so I figured with it not directly being in-use, the battery consumption wouldn't be as quick, especially with it showing a black screen for this particular game. I thought maybe it would hold a charge until the next time I needed it then I would charge it or charge it prior to playing a game that uses it

the gamepad shouldn't turn on when you turn on the console with the pro controller. you're using the pro precisely to avoid using the gamepad.

i avoided this for a long time my leaving the gamepad without charge on purpose since the wii u works fine if the gamepad is never detected at the start.

LOL @ the title change. Of course I know how to spell but I was so mad I had to type it how I would have said it in person while still being pissed about it

Yeah, but if it crashed at that exact moment the problem was probably with the code that was trying to display the message.

I played tropical freeze on the pro controller for a week, consistently, never once had to charge the controller... not once!

EDIT: misread.. yea i always hae the gamepad on the charger lol

Yes that's amazing but if you read the OP you find out that they use Pro Controller too and still experienced this problem.

Strange. I've had the Gamepad battery die probably 10 times while using my Pro pad to play TF and this hasn't happened. That's really fucked up, though. There needs to be an option to shut the Gamepad off.

I'm surprised so many people don't leave their game pads on the charging dock when they are not using it.
I agree with you, Nintendo should give us an option to shut down the Game Pad when using a different controller.

That's a shame, but it's not exactly a widespread incident.

I've been playing with the pro controller and have had the gamepad die many times and this has never happened to me.

Had a friend call me panicking recently when he ran into this issue and thought his Wii U was broken. It's a pretty lame bug, but I don't really know how boolshytty it really is...

It sounds like a terrible, inexcusable bug but if your experience was anything like mine, at the point where you are (having played Bopopolis enough to be able to get near the end) you should be able to cruise through the level with your eyes closed when you start it back up again.

The system is filled with confusing gamepad design, the UI and the console itself freaks out if it can't find the gamepad.
