I just don't like the guy. I don't like the way he helmed EGM throughout the years, and I don't agree with his opinions or the way he articulates himself. Poor choice I say, but I'm not 1up management. I'd rather Shane take the spot than Hsu.

Hsu seems like a cool enough guy. I don't agree with what he says some times but it's not like I read EGM and have a big list of grievances at the end of it. Hell it's one of the few magazines that seems to understand it's medium and doesn't just give me 2 month old news. They've had some pretty cool features in there lately.

I just hope we don't carry on getting 3 Halo covers a year when Halo Wars is due to come out.

I agree. I remember when he took over was about the time I stopped reading the magazine.
I also remember at the time Dave Halverson saying in Gamefan the new crew at EGM were babies. :lol

Or maybe it has something to do with helping turn a faceless gaming magazine in a slowly dying format into a much more popular, much more stylish, and much more personable publication in the span of like two years. Or maybe helping spearhead the kind of journalism that the same people calling for Hsu's head lauded to the hills just two years ago when he grilled Peter fucking Moore like a deliciously spiced July 4th Cheeseburger.

And the reason there is so much hate towards Shoe(who I think is a cool guy) is because of his clear affection for the Halo series. Like a guy who got where Shoe is would have any obvious bias when it comes to reviews or coverage.

I like Hsu, and i am going to be very unpopular but i hope he steps into 1up yours when someone is unavailable.

They sold off a bunch of their company a month or so back to get debt down. They've shrunken down to basically being PC Mag and 1UP/Egm now. The latter of which is currently losing them money.

Why is this a surprise? I thought it was known that he would take over. Hsu has been there forever, has the managing experience from EGM, and was the single most qualified individual, just like John was as he had previously run PSM when it was around. I was only shocked when I saw that random nobody, Simon Cox, filling in for a while.

From what i read of EGM the magazine seems very fair and balanced. Hell even LBP won a few E3 awards.

Dude, he said that KZ2 doesn't look better than Gears.

Not to mention the EGM "KZ2 has the worst AI, Halo 3 has best AI" snippet in the recent EGM mag.

Not to mention the "Resistance is just another shooter, all weapons are the same."

It would be one thing if he admitted to having bias, but he pretends like he does not. That's what rubs people the wrong way.

Here is an example:

Wollan is extremely pro-Sony. No doubt about that.

But guess what? He has a X360 and plays Halo, but you don't see him bash the opposing system

If Hsu was honest about his allegiances, then I don't think people would mind him as much.

But the fact that he essentially runs both Ziff Davis entities now, is a bit much. The least he could do is play some fucking Half-Life 2.

From what I read on his blog, the position of Editoral Direction doesn't seem to require too much extra work on his behalf. Hsu even called it a "cake walk".
