I took an extended lunch break today in order to schlep all three games back to TRU to complain/exchange. Of course, once I got there, I recalled that I left the CC I used to buy the games with at home. Ah well, I wasn't going to give up then.
So I get there, and walk up to the relatively empty register. I briefly inform the nearest clerk about my purchases last week, and when I get to the punchline, I merely take out DDR Universe, crack open the case, and wordlessly show him the contents.
He grabs me by the arm, tells me to follow him, and proceeds to lead me (scrambling to grab the rest of my shit) over to the customer service area. We skip the loooooooong line of people there waiting to process returns, and I begin to wonder if he's trying to detain me before the police arrive, or just trying to give me the royal treatment due to their error.
Turns out, it was the latter, thankfully. They didn't even need my CC. They pretty much asked no questions and brought out another copy of the game for me, which they then proceeded to open before my eyes in order to confirm the goods. Emboldened, I asked about this phenomenon, and outright confronted them about the idea of resealing returns and selling them as new.
The manager, I later learned, assured me that this wasn't the case, and told me that it was an issue at manufacturing. He did comment on the oddity that it only ever happens with Xbox games. He says he's never had a similar return of Sony or Nintendo console games, only Xbox brand games. He also said that it's common enough that he gets about 1 a month. I'm #2 for this month. Apparently someone bought the 360 version of Orange Box and wound up with an adult film! Heh, at least that game is rated M, amirite?
Anyway. A couple of apologies, cut right to the head of the line at customer service, and an exchange later, I'm a happy camper. So from there, I wander over to the
Nintendo World Store for some Mario/Chibi-Robo lovin'!
Edit - woops.
