After being announced earlier this year some impressions and gameplay vids have finally hit from Dangerous Golf.

Hands-On Impressions

Then comes the trick shot. Each hole ends with you trying to put the ball in the hole, just like regular golf. The difference here is you're encouraged to take chances and line up elaborate ricochets. The game is generous about helping your ball into the hole. It's possible to miss, but perfect aim is not required.

In that sense, Dangerous Golf is a natural descendant of Burnout's imaginative "Crash" mode. There, minute adjustments to your car's steering and velocity dramatically influence the score earned when you cause a wreck.

Anyone else excited for this? Personally I'm really looking forward to it since there haven't been any elaborate arcade style games lately.

The game (to me) seems like it'd be more fun if it controlled more like actual golf in terms of the physics and how you line up and hit the ball rather than giving you actual control of the ball itself after you start it.

Yea, I agree. It looks like a fun game though, but the "golf" aspect of it is a bit contrived, for better or worse.

I'm still not really clear on the game mechanics though. Stuff just happens on screen, and I'm not sure how he's making those putts.

really? that's actually lot less interesting than i thought...

i assumed you'd be whacking a ball full speed into a room full of shit to break, not control the ball directly :/

As a fan of the Burnout team and crash mode, I really want to like this game, but the Unfinished video on Giant Bomb killed a lot of my interest.

To some degree, I think my biggest problem with it might just be due to how it was presented in the video. The devs say that it's not a physics demo, but then they put the game in the hands of a designer that has played these levels hundreds of times and everything looks so effortless that it seems to barely even resemble a real game or have any discernible challenge: there's not much in the way of aiming, he presses a button, the ball crashes into everything and there's a bunch of random bonuses, and then the ball just kinda goes in the hole with seemingly little to no skill or aiming required.

My one hope for this game is that the devs were glossing over a lot of details to make the game look cool and there's more skill and depth than it appeared. I'm not so sure that's actually the case, but I'm still holding out some hope that it's a game.

Surprised to see how this game actually plays. It's nothing like golf at all, it's primarily a physics/destruction simulator it seems. As someone who actually likes golf games this footage really disappoints me, the hype I had for this game is definitely gone now. The game looks good on its own, but it's definitely not for me.

Yeah I can understand those sentiments. While I am very excited to check this game out, both as a fan of arcade games and the former Burnout devs, I do think perhaps letting Jeff play the game in the GB vid would've helped things a bit. Obviously the game as it was in the GB vid looked rather good in a sense due to a dev playing it, though the fact that he was a dev, and knows all the ins and outs of the mechanics, along with having some special abilities unlocked, such as that laser shot or whatever it was called, did make the game perhaps look a bit too easy or even shallow in a sense.

Hopefully we can all get a better sense of how the game plays soon, though I just hope TFE doesn't go the streamer route and gives a bunch of folks early copies since that could make the game look horrendous if presented a particular way.

Dear lord, someone mentioned that the normal map on the ball is inverted and now I can't stop seeing all those bumps coming out of the ball.

Worked on a game for a few months with a team on and off, we just about finished the prototype. As soon as we finished that, this game was announced and it was near enough exactly the same gameplay wise, we were gutted haha.

Still curious to see how it turns out, I can forgive them cause their studio has a dog on their team.

Cool. Not sure how long the smash-em-up mechanics will be enjoyable. I can see that wearing thin after a while. But I'm glad they're sticking to their roots. I'll keep an eye on it and consider a purchase.

As soon i saw the kotaku videos i got excited about this game. It's the perfect game to play couch multiplayer. at least it looks like it is.

As long as it's not too expensive it's a definite buy for me.

This is so obviously a tech demo for physics based destruction in a burnout spirtual successor.

Problem with that for me personally, was I didnt play burnout for that. I played it for the unmatched sense of speed.

So even as "buy this game to fund the direction our next game is going in - which is the one you actually want" it falls flat.

Wish them best of luck in anycase.

LOL

Remember they are still......hopefully working on this, we haven't heard a single damn thing about it since 2014

That shit was shown way to early.

"Golf's boring, golfers are boring and golf games made for golfers are really boring,"

...so we made a game that has nothing to do with golf and called it Golf.

You know, even watching GB's Unfinished, I have no idea how it plays. It looks like pure, uncontrolled chaos, and yet the designer manages to get a hole in one easily. I haven't been so baffled on gameplay in a long time.

Jeff played a bit at the end, in the final ten minutes.

Yeah... that made me wonder how much they'll regret including golf in the title.

Kinda does seem like they needed a physics engine, which resulted in this game. As a startup studio, it's a smart move, but on the other... it's, you know... dangerous.

Man the devs attitude during the GB video turns me off so quickly.

Should have made it something not golf related :(

Kinda seems like it's in Rock of Ages and Goat Simulator territory... probably will have an audience, but it's not really my thing.

Like other posters, straight up Hot Shots Golf with destructable environments and nonsense on the course would be great, though.

100FT Robot Golf will probably be closer to that, but NoGoblin seems to also hate golf so who the hell knows.

I'm not sure how we ended up in this situation where all of these new games associated with golf are all made by people that don't like golf or golf video games. It's weird.

It looks kind of like that minigame in saint's row games where you ragdoll your character around to cause damage.
Or the thing in the later burnout games I guess where you could "steer" the car after the initial impact (which I liked much less than the original)

both just felt wonky to me tbh and not a fun gameplay mechanic

I'm not sure how long an entire game made around that concept will be entertaining

They also really shouldn't shit on golf games so much, I really doubt I'd get as much enjoyment out of this than I have out of hot shots golf.

They really need to upload a video detailing gameplay mechanics and controls because like everyone else here I have no idea what's going on.

I'm really hoping this is good because it's a fun concept and I want to see Three Fields succeed so they can make the true Burnout successor they promised.

ill buy it, im a fan of moving shit forward (trying new things) were so stagnant on destruction atm. the presentation is pretty fugly, its old school extreme which i wasnt really a fan of at the time even. also i need a new burnout so this can be like an investment.
