Doesn't mean it's going to be exclusive to anything in any capacity.

I can see Dark Souls 2 as being a NEXT-GEN console exclusive. So it would come to PS3 and 360 but if you wanted the best versions you would want the PC or XBONE version. Can't say I would mind that much.

Worst case scenario is exclusive dlc or something like that.

Nope.

- From software left exclusivity with Sony to broaden market share (it's would be counter intuitive to go back)
- The game (Dark Souls) sold more on the PS3
- The game is only being released on the PS360 (as of now)
- Lastly ..if it does come to next gen: the PS4 is more in line with PC architecture that the XBone.

Dark Souls II - Xbone Exclusive
Demon's Souls II - PS4 Exclusive

Sounds fair I guess.

I can see this actually. Maybe Hidetaka Miyazaki pulled out of Dark Souls 2 to work on Demon Souls 2?

Dark Souls 2 would be a prime target for Microsoft to moneyhat, I'd imagine. As long as its still coming to PS3, I wouldn't care that much.

But it's noteworthy because the teaser is all about Xbone which, up to this point, has not been specified as a platform where Dark Souls 2 will appear.

It's more than likely general hype. MS conference typically have developer 'showings' on stage with little to nothing that adds to the game player experience.

Primary, its about perception, which is why MS has an advertising contract with Call of Duty.

Dark Souls also sold quite a bit more on the PS3 did it not?

Yeah it did.

I doubt anything other than a Dark Souls 2 demo being shown during the conference (or announcing the game will be released for next gen consoles).

The series has a hardcore following on PS3, it would be ridiculous to think there would be anything other than timed exclusive DLC (which I wholeheartedly believe Microsoft would seek)

And if it is still being put out on the PS3, it will still have those sales. The only sales they would lose would be the PS4, which they could recoop with Demon Souls 2 plus Microsoft's big top hat of money.

Not saying it will happen, just a thought.

why are people still mentioning Demon's Souls 2? what the hell? Dark Souls was Demon's Souls 2. there is no other series than Dark Souls now.

right..?

Dark Souls was a spiritual successor by FROM. Sony owns the IP for Demon's Souls, so FROM hand to rebrand the sequel in order to release it simultaneously on Xbox 360.

Sony owns the IP and we got some rumours flying around that Demon's Souls 2 is in development, backed by the fact that Miyazaki isn't working on Dark Souls 2.

Nothing concrete obviously.

Just because he's not working on Dark Souls II means he's making a Demon's Souls II? He's worked on Armored Core, who said he isn't making a next generation Armored Core game?

Demon Souls 2?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't Demon's Souls II/Dark Souls II be the same game?

How would they deviate either way? It doesn't make sense.

Haha! Read my mind.

I didn't realize people still did the dollar sign thing...not since 2005, at least.

Carnival of stupid already beginning.
No one would fund a cross gen "exclusive" and from wouldn't agree to do it.

Do you honestly think it's realistic for a 3rd party publisher (Namco Bandai) to leave sales on the table for a supposed PS4 version just to put it on the Xbox One exclusively? That's a ridiculous notion for a series that does well because of a dedicated core base. and not the casual market which Microsoft seems to be reaching out to with it's focus on TV and apps.

The PS4 is obviously going to be released in Japan and Dark Souls 2 will get a majority of its sales in that region from the PS3 (and maybe a PS4 version, if released). Making it Xbone exclusive would essentially gut revenue from porting the game to next gen in the first place.

Also, From Software is not THAT big of a developer but a Demon's Souls 2 is probably out of the question seeing that Dark Souls 2 is already in preproduction and is being developed for 3 systems simultaneously.

That's not fair, that's just a very petty post.

Dark Souls II - Xbox One
Demon's Souls II - PS4
King's Field V - Wii U

There you go.

Why would Dark Souls go xbone exclusive? It won't. Did better on PS. It doesn't make sense. Don't think they accept a moneyhat.

Dark Souls II - PS360/Wii U/PC

Demons Souls II - PS4 Exclusive.

I'm not sure what the second link entails other than it seeming to be a response to some of the claims from the first link, but could you enlighten me to why I should take Verendus' claims to heart? What makes what he's saying have weight to it?

And for those thinking Dark Souls II is a Microsoft exclusive, is it even launching on that platform in Japan?

Have you ever played Demon's Souls?...
-World Tendency Events
-Hub World (as opposed to an open world)
-No bonfires
-Herbs (as opposed to estus flasks)

They aren't the same game and a Demon's Souls 2 would be very welcomed

And for those thinking Dark Souls II is a Microsoft exclusive, is it even launching on that platform in Japan?
Yes. Dark Souls 2 is launching in Japan on 360 and PS3 this time.

I am not sure what they showed is only exclusives .We can see COD:Ghosts , BF4 also included in that trailer .Both are multi-platforms.

Point taken on From Software not being big enough to handle both Demon/Dark at the same time.

I still think Microsoft would and could moneyhat the next gen version of Dark Souls 2 though.

If Demon's Souls 2 is being developed by Miyazaki and From it doesn't make sense...why would From create an exclusive PS4 game that will compete with an another in-house developed and very similar in tone title? don't get me wrong, if we end up having two amazing Souls games I'll be more than happy it's that this whole scenario sounds a bit weird.

Isn't Namco being really aggressive with this title? Like trying to turn it into a brand as big as Skyrim, etc? I get the feeling Namco approached MS, not the other way around. They probably just want to have it presented at the conferences so it gets a lot of exposure. I doubt any exclusivity is involved.

It would make sense if they never had to compete it themselves. Dark Souls 2 not making to next gen or being a Xbone exclusive next gen would explain a lot.

Plus, if Demon's Souls 2 exists, what are the odds of it being released even remotely close to Dark Souls 2? Dark Souls 2 is rumoured to be a March 2014 game, I can't see Demon's 2 being something before fall 2014.

Someone else will be able to answer that better than me. That's all I know and people seem to be taking it as credible so :P

I still think Microsoft would and could moneyhat the next gen version of Dark Souls 2 though.

Microsoft could technically moneyhat any game or game series. However, these publishers have shareholders, Namco Bandai specifically, and I doubt they would feel comfortable with one of their major Japanese developed titles debuting exclusively (for next gen) on the Xbox One. Especially after their announcement of the Dark Souls sales numbers.

And with that in mind, how much money would Microsoft be willing to spend for something like that? 100 million? The game sold a lot less on 360 than on PS3, it's not exactly in Microsoft's best interest to do that either.

I think that was mainly due to it being a PS3 title via Demon's Souls. I am sure it will do well on all formats for DS2. Would love to see an XBone version though. the Durante Edition on PC is lovely, so I hope they push next0gen as well as current.

Dark Souls and Demon's Souls were different in quite a few ways. Mainly, I feel, it came down to how they played. Dark souls had charges, Demon's Souls had mana. Dark Souls was more open, Demon's Souls was sectioned off and made it feel more like it had stages.

This definitely isn't the first time Microsoft has displayed non-exclusive games in promo material. Hell, most of the games in that trailer are multiplat. The most I'd expect is timed exclusive DLC or something like that, and even then I'd say that that's probably isn't gonna happen. They're probably just going to play a bit of the game on stage so they can say "Look! Core gamers like Dark Souls! You're a core gamer! We have Dark Souls!" followed by 30 minutes of Kinect shit.

Dark Souls 2 will not be a next gen title (at least from what we know thus far) but what about Dark Souls 3? I was under the impression that From and Namco want to make the Dark Souls IP a series so a new game on the next gen platforms is almost certain, so at some point those two titles may compete with each other plus there's the similarity in tone between the two franchises and of course the names which could cause further confusion...that doesn't mean that a Demon's Souls 2 is not gonna happen I just can't see From developing it, being developed by a SCEJ studio is a much more realistic and possible scenario IMO.

Anyway all this is just speculation so I guess we'll see at TGS what will happen with the Demon's IP.

Dark Souls was on PS3, PC and 360, and the 360 and PS3 versions came out at the same time. Regardless it sold much better on PS3.

It was known as a PS3 game, hence most PS3 owners buying into Dark Souls pretty easily. I am glad the 360 did enough to warrant Dark Souls 2, as well as the PC doing good sales once it was Durante Patched.
