Dark Souls 3 announced (Early 2016, PC/PS4/XB1, Miyazaki Directing)

so kinda like transforming in BB for stronger attacks.

sounds great. i'd still love a remastered DS1 though honestly, with the smoothness of 2 on pc and fixed covenants and such.

i hope movement feels like DS1 more than 2 then bc parrying in 1 was perfect, in 2 i could never do it consistently the timings didn't make as much sense IMO

That's interesting... interview on Giantbomb, Brad was describing how you can dual wield a ranged weapon with a melee weapon and quickly switch between quick shots and close in stabbing. That'd be really cool if they made ranged combat more active and interesting.

I really like how they're trying to expand combat options and really emphasizing diversity in builds and playstyles.

i hope there's no agility. no vitality either, weird ass stat that was fine hanging with another one like endurance. 100 / 120 was such a good spot to stop in 1 since its stats were great, except for resistance.i hope he makes really good PVP because bloodborne just isn't fun for pvp to me, i could (nm have) spend weeks in the forest in ds1

I really hope they keep the huge variety of weapons & armor from DS1/2. I loved Bloodborne but I need my fashion souls, and I love watching specific weapon challenges.

How long did it take after the closed doors Bloodborne showing before they released the footage to the public?

Well at E3 last year, the Bloodborne footage was really rough. I saw it myself and it had loads of framerate issues and was barely manageable to be played by the demonstrators. I don't think we saw it again until Gamescom which looked a lot better.

i could map all of ds1 out on paper after beating it once but BB tbh i don't think i have a good grasp on more than half of the areas, 1 hit a perfect sweet spot with world size and build

Could I get a summary post with links on what to read/watch? I've only seen the CGI trailer at microsoft's conference and this is a big thread.

So, guessing from the IGN preview i would say that this thing is the
Dancer of the Frigid Valley

Bows have a rolling R1 attack. From Peeve:

Awesoommmee. God im so relieved it looks more like Ds1. Now I can rest assured that I'll enjoy the gameplay regardless of how the lore ends up.

Really wonder how theyre going to deal with Lagstabs from Ds1 returning especially if the animation is as suctiony as it was in that game.

Lore stuff:

Dark Souls 3 shares the same world with Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2.

About the giant knight with the crown at the end of the trailer:

Miyazaki says he is
the Lord of Cinder. Whether or not is it Gwyn or the Chosen Undead from DS1 is another story.

I would be completely okay with this. It would make dressing up as an enemy npc way too damn fun.

Being invaded by xxx420gamerguyblazeeverydayxxx is kind of an immersion breaker.

Not happy about backstabs coming back. The series needs fewer vacuum attacks to play special animations, not more.

Meh. People are going fish for backstabs no matter what. It really comes down to the quality of the net code, the only thing that holds ds2's pvp back.

I'm glad the parry/riposte from ds1 is back. It was much more satisfying, and parrying is so wonky in ds2.

This all sounds great. Hated ds2 slow ass movement. Glad to hear archery is getting more options too. Now hopefully no warping(from start) + bonfire leveling is in. Let me get lost in the world again.

Dual wielding was lame in Dark Souls and they made it cool in Dark Souls II. Finally archery is getting its time to shine! The only thing left is dual wielding shields as weapons (not the ghetto version).

He just wants to keep rekindling the flame bro....gotta get high while you can while we're still in the age of fire.

Anyways all this early info about the gameplay sounds good to me.

Giantbomb podcast about DS3: http://www.giantbomb.com/podcasts/e3-2015-chattin-about-the-dark-souls-3-demo/1600-1247/

Apparantly they were already in prototyping phase a year before DS2 was out.

No way Miyazaki was directing DS3 if he was in BB development

“Areas are interconnected just like in the first Dark Souls,” said Miyazaki. “Having an interconnected map is my favorite.”

Thats good to know alonside the return of Dark Souls combat mechanics, I want to see more about the Mages and sorceries

Insta-backstab back? Ewwwwwwwww.

I much preferred BB's approach where you had to hit the charge attack. Was really hoping for something similar in DSIII. PvP is gonna be the fishing expedition, I suppose. :/

EDIT: Power stance from DSII BETTER still be in this. I'll be pissed if it's janky dual wield like DS again.

Im sure theyve put in a way to counter it. After 2 games of them trying to find a way to mitigate that I'd hope they thought about it. BB was the best for that imo.

This makes no sense. Its easier to get lost in an interconnected map than a linear one. Lol
I know this. I was referring to how easy it was to get lost in BB, and how I liked that. If they go back to DS1, linearity levels that branch off into shortcuts and what not, it's fine, but I love that feeling of being lost.
He is saying that the level design is less like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls II (which was even more linear), more like Dark Souls 1.
I understand that.

I haven't played Bloodborne so it could be like that (assuming it is like interconnected Dark Souls 1). Is Bloodborne different?

DaS 3 won't be Wticher 3, but as long as the world is as memorable and detailed as most of DaS 1 then I'll be satisfied.

Damn they should have added mounts and mounted combat. I think Miyazaki wanted to in Dark Souls 1 but he changed his mind for some reason. The horses would probably be incredibly heavy and control like tanks and it would be glorious. They would probably be restricted to certain areas too.

Need to know this. Are they going to be keeping the lighting engine of dark souls 2 when it was first announced this time? The hardware can obviously handle it now.

I was referring more to general movement, walking around and such. Always felt off/slow to me. ADP didn't help either. Agree dual wielding was better in ds2. Hope they can improve magic too, like that alternate fire thing they were talking about pre-release.

Dynamic lighting, particle effects were mentioned, but who knows? I thought the lighting in BB would look much better than it does. I'm sure the game will look beautiful, nonetheless.

I can't believe people are still hung up on this.

Most likely running on Bloodborne engine. First impressions have said the torch works as well as it does in BB.

I don't get this either seeing BB's lighting (and lack thereof in areas) was just fine by me. The only atrocity of that game graphically was the frame rate, and that will be remedied by PC version.
