Dark Souls 3's visual evolution since the leak (SPOILERS - Speculation)

For some reason I always thought guides for Souls titles were released later. The prima guide is being released on the same day though. Gonna get that for treasure/cool shit locations.

When we first saw the leaked photos, I remember someone had a theory about going through the same area at a different time of day. Maybe that will be in the final game?

It reminds me of Bloodborn. I really like the outdoor setting and crumbling ruins of the other Souls games. It's just too modern seeing a knight plopping through cobbled streets and houses.

The first shot looks like bloodborne. If you told me it was, I'd believe it. Now it's covered all in last gen's piss filter :/

The non yellow ones looked very similar to Bloodborne,it's good that they changed to pale yellow eventually.

Feels more otherworldly, grim and depressing. Can't fuckin wait for this game

Does anyone know of any good footage of a playthrough on the network stress test build?

Hopefully one without an obnoxious youtube warrior spouting dumb commentary. Intelligent commentary sure, but - you know.

Eh, that's what Anor Londo (and in some ways, the Undead Burg) looked like too.

It really does looks a lot like bloodborne.

With the piss filter The day time ds3 shots look borderline identical to the intro area in the old hunters dlc.

I feel you. I can't stand BB combat and long for a return to the diversity of Souls proper.

From pls

Well, i really liked Bloodborne combat as an alternative approach, but in the end it falls short to the depth and customisation of the Dark Souls series.

From the gameplay videos i've seen,Dark Souls 3 stands in the middle ground of their previous works, could as well be named Soulsborne

I agree mostly...except regarding the weapons. There was more depth in the weapon selection in bloodborne to me especially with the DLC. each weapon in bloodborne was more nuanced than 10 weapons in dark souls with combos and animations that I am still discovering.

I agree with this. While there were, yes, fewer options, each option was better and more distinct, especially given the trick modes. Was initially a little annoyed with the "smaller" selection of weapons, but it's simply not a problem, because I don't just have 3 Claymores.

I haven't watched his DS3 network test playthrough (because i want to get in the game blind) but i have been following him for years and his content is always of high standards.

Yes,they gave quite a bit of emphasis in weapons as Bloodborne rewards offensive and agile strategies. Most of the weapons were quite balanced and had bigger number of movesets, most of em usefull.

The build variety though, didn't cut if for me.

While in Dark Souls you have distinct miracles, sorceries, pyromancies, hexes, heavy strength based builds or agile dexterity builds, tank or glass cannon builds,in Bloodborne you had arcange, bloodtinge, strength and dexterity which all of them felt pretty much the same, just boosting damage from different weapons

That was a big minus.Even Miyazaki stated in an interview that he missed the Dark Souls variety and depth compared to Bloodborne :P

EDIT: Miyazaki interview quote

"Because of the character of Bloodborne’s gameplay, its battle style, as well as the role-playing elements, it’s limited compared to the Dark Souls franchise," he explains. "It doesn’t necessarily mean Bloodborne was bad. However, while working on it I realised, I want to create something which has a wide range of battle styles, or features magic, or those things which allow players to wear awesome armour. Those elements are what actually made me come back to the Dark Souls franchise"

I don't particularly care for the yellow filter or the BB-esque colors in the first shot but man, this picture:
MmKNnq5.jpg

...has a general color scheme that I vastly prefer for atmosphere. The other one just feels a bit bland.

I hope there are still some early medieval/Romanesque influences in the architecture and they haven't gone full High Gothic like all of these screenshots suggest.

Already missing the artstyle of Bloodborne. Are we simply retreading the same castles for a third time ?

Unless something goes wrong, this game should have better/more area variety in both colors and style than bloodborne.

can't wait to see the forest in this game and Ihope it's in the day time.

What's the alarming thing so far in Dark Souls 3 is that the only areas we've seen in trailers are the Yharnam/Anor Londo style.

I assume they just don't wanna spoil yet the otherworldy areas this game will have since all the previous Souls game had a really big variety of levels.

I just hope they dont use the Bloodborne "one big city" style,it just doesn't suit Dark Souls

I enjoy the screens with the purple sky more than those with the yellow sky. The purple sky adds a bit of life to the souls universe where that i quite rare and hard to find. I would like DaS II to exist in a world where the city is somehow in just a beginning state of its inevitable downward spiral, instead of long gone and crumbling. The more flags, and bluer skies sort of gave me that impression.
