Dark Souls PC Mod allows immediate summons between friends

vs 'I actively enjoy bullshit'

There's liking a challange, then there's the game actually being broken. You might as well just claim that people complaining about hackers are 2 casual 2 live yo.

Playing Demon or Dark Souls solo is the preferable way to play your first time so you have actually learned how to play the game. It is pretty obvious that you probably have not. Coop play is little more than skipping content in the souls games, none of the fights / scenarios are designed around it.

If by solo you mean totally offline then no. But nobody is calling offline Dark Souls broken so I don't know where you got that from.

...based on what?

It sounds like you are too busy trying to answer me aggressively to even follow what I've asked.

Why is Dark Souls online solo bullshit, but Dark Souls offline isn't? I mean you don't have to go human and open yourself to invasions if that's what you're talking about.

I feel like people are discussing issues that have little to do with what this mod does.

I tried this yesterday with my gf. We have spent many hours fruitlessly trying to summon each other in the PC version in the past.

IT FUCKING WORKS. IT IS AWESOME.

Follow the quotes back.

Back to where you responded to someone not enjoying being killed by a 'lag backstabbing cheater' by saying that they just wanted the game to be easy?

Again, is the 'lag backstabbing cheater' actually a 'legitimate player' who's being moaned about because they won, or does bad netcode, hacking or powerleveling/exploiting mean that the challange of dealing with this guy without being able to summon or escape actually spill over into bullshit territory rather than just 'I like things easy'?

If this forums wasn't moderated, I would expect more than half of the responses as "git gud noob"

As it is we just get the more eloquent version of the same thing.

So about that Dark Souls thing, if I get someone to buy me a key from Amazon for 15 bucks (if the offer is still on) can I redeem it on Steam? Or is it some sort of IMPORT PIRACY YOUR ACCOUNT IS FUCKED thing?

Region free gifting I believe.

EDIT: Not that it matters anymore, the deal is gone :(

This intrigues me. Is there a link to a video that shows long summon times (more than 2 minutes) so I can get an understanding of what the issue is I checked the OP but didn't see anything.?

Do you know how to read? This fixes a technical issue, an issue that isn't apparent in the ps3 (console versions?) of the game.
No, it is a band aid. It doesn't fix the spotty online in whole, it only gives preferential treatment to people on your friends list. Who you shouldn't be playing with. It is a worthless mod.

It's not really a technical issue. FromSoft deliberately made it difficult to MP with your friends, and both he PC and console versions are exactly the same in this regard. Or they were, before this mod.

Maybe you should read Durante's post, though I'm sure you know more about the technicalities than he. Of course.

Durante's godlike for what he's done but it doesn't make him right about every goddamn thing, so drop the fucking attitude. It's true that Dark Souls has shit connectivity and matchmaking, but what this does is give preferential treatment to specific people, which isn't something that was really intended. If this mod improved connectivity on the whole, then yeah, I would agree.

That said, I don't really have a problem with the mod or anything. I think it goes against developer intent to a degree, but I don't think it's a big deal.

It's an optional mod. I would like to play co-op with a friend. I appreciate that I can install if I want. Why would anyone not want an optional mod to be available? How does it hurt anyone else's experience?

Just a clarification: People aren't calling the default summon system broken because of its intended use and purpose, but the fact that it doesn't work as well as it does on PS3 or 360 for some reason. It's fucked regardless of the number of players or eligibility of summoner/summonee/invader/invaded.

If it's true that this patch just brings things more in line with the PS3/360 versions then maybe I did misinterpret things, but going 10-20 minutes trying to summon a specific person on the 360 version was a pretty common thing for me, open NAT and everything. So I kinda just assumed that the PC version was the exact same in that regard.

As a console gamer I will admit this makes me jealous.

On demand play with friends would certainly have given this game a new life for me and more likely then not, another couple playthroughs on top of the 6 or so I've done on my own.

You can still play the game single player. You can still play it online without using the mod. This is an option for people who don't want to wait an hour every time they want to summon someone, or people who want to play with a friend, which you could already do with the old system by coordinating where you leave the summons sign.

Durante (can I call you Durante?), I'm curious, did FROM ever contact you in any way concerning your fix? Even if just an internet fist-bump or something?

it's not like people have been explaining for 5 pages that the online on PC is borderline broken and way worse than the console versions.

The community has been fixing the port since the games release.

And developpers intent really doesn't matter, especially in this case, since the way the developpers did it doesn't work.

Hell yeah, missed this thread. Summoning friends is really a pain on the PC version. It's annoying on consoles too but if any version of the game needed this it was the PC one.

There were like 2 or 3 people saying that in a handful of posts that were easy to miss, and I never had any idea that there was any difference between the PC and console versions in this regard since it's always worked the exact same on PC as it does on 360 for me, just with less people.

I've done coordinated online co-op on both ps3 and PC versions.

PS3 version: Averaged about 30 minutes to an hour of waiting to get summoned by gf. Summoning sign was at a previously-agreed upon location. It just took ages for my summon sign to show up in her game, and some days it just didn't happen at all.

PC version without mod: Flat out did not work. Ever. Even if we were on separate computers IN THE SAME HOUSE. Spent many hours trying fruitlessly.

PC version post-mod: Summon sign showed up within seconds of me seeing it placed on my gf's pc screen. This was fucking sorcery as far as I was concerned.

Did you try with with DSfix?

tbh I'd mind more if GFWL hadn't botched online so much already.

at least this way you can get some semblance of multiplayer, even if it's against what the devs wished (I'm sure absolutely no multiplayer isn't what they dreamed of either).

Looking through the thread I can't believe some people are complaining about this. It simply makes something that used to take 20 minutes - infinite amount of time a lot faster. It's not like you couldn't do this before. If you wanted to co-op with friends in Demon's Souls, it was this easy, you just have to tell the other person where your sign is and it almost always shows up in the other world without issue.

Sometimes you'll meet a stranger in the game and decide to do some bosses together or PVP or trade some items. Now it's less of a pain in the ass, less waiting and more playing. I've spent hours trying to connect with other GAFers. Waiting around 30 minutes for a 2 minute boss fight. This mod is in no way a bad thing. It still has all of the same restrictions in place for summoning/invading. It just puts people on your GFWL list at the top of your IP pool, instead of having to wait for it to cycle.

The only minor downside of this is that gankers can summon their gankbros more easily, but who cares. They were going to do it anyway.

I'd love for more GAFers friend me on GFWL for this, my gamertag is my username.

This is really cool.

Could really change PvP on the PC though (not that it matters since people can already hack their save file or whatever to get whatever stuff they want). Imagine being invaded while you have a friend, friend gets killed, and you immediately summon him back. Great when its working in your favor, not so much otherwise.

Eh, I was able to summon friends on the 360 version with no huge issues. Usually took 5 minutes tops.

The "perfect" system IMO, on paper at least, would be one where you don't have the Summoning Failed connection issues, but where there would be a cooldown on summoning a specific person. Say I summon my friend, he gets killed, and then I have to wait maybe 15 seconds or so before he can be brought back into my world.

You can already do this easily. Once you get past the bullshit summoning, once you finally connect, you can connect to that person easily.
