Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition GamesCom trailer [update: new screens]

Motoi Sakuraba did the music....? Holy crap! He's one of my favorites and I never even knew he did Dark Souls! Much different from his normal, but so so good.

Haha, yeah, he is one of my favorites as well. Quite honestly, I bought Dark Souls because Motoi Sakuraba was doing the music and using some live instruments and vocals.

In case anybody's intrested, here's an epic hidden track a youtuber found on the game disk:

Awesome. I played it on PS3 and had a good time (still haven't finished it though). Game's got some nice music from Motoi Sakuraba as well. Yeah!

Have fun when you get it, bro. :)
His inclusion is one reason I'm super excited. I can't wait to hear the tracks I've become a fan of in-game.

Nice seeing you around again!

Holy shit, so much new stuff in that trailer, I don't know where to even begin. I think I saw some kind of super titanite demon in the abyss? And what looked like a humungous black phantom black knight killing the shit out of the player.

And that arena mode looks hot!

As soon as i make the Greatsword of Artorias and spend 10 Demon Titanite upgrading it, this DLC comes out. I am pumped up - I was always bummed that this guy was mentioned so much but there were no good interactions with his backstory.

I hope this means gravelording is going to work better or the new content will have a lot of BP enemies :D

Can't wait for this. This is on the show floor tomorrow right? Looking forward to some impressions... naively hoping that the resolution lock just ain't true.

Yeah, they definitely need some permanent BP enemies, otherwise for us vets the new content will be too easy.

Any idea what's going on here? I'm getting Demons Souls vibes from this.

Yeah my only worry is that I'm going to beat this new content in like an hour.

Also getting Demon's Souls vibes from that.. kind of look like the shadowlurkers from 4-2.

It looks related to the "dark magic" spell that was shown in an earlier screenshot (linked because screenshot is massive):

They seem like inhabitants of the abyss to me, which is apparently slowly enveloping all of Ooacile in the new content. It reminds me of the "thinnys" from Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

I always wondered where that song went...why wasn't it used? That and the song from the E3 trailer were phenomenal, but never used in the game.

Artorias looks bad-fucking-ass.

He's clearly hollow, or overtaken by something. He doesn't move like a human.

Can't wait for the console DLC.

EDIT: For all the people worried about length, FROM stated that it's 10 hours for experienced players. For anyone who knows anything about Dark Souls, that can easily mean 20+ hours of playtime if you want to find and learn everything.

From what I understand, the new content will have
four areas and a boss for each area
so I'm not too worried about beating it quickly. I'm sure once you get familiar with everything it'll be easier, just like the rest of the game, but I assume the first time through will be just as difficult as any of the other areas of the game the first time you play through.

Is anyone planning on starting a new character and new game for the DLC or will you take your favorite character? I'm not sure how it will work but I'm afraid of being over leveled.

I hope so, but I can beat the game in 10 hours now. Of course, I am very familiar with the vanilla game, and I won't be rushing through the new content at all but rather exploring every nook and cranny, and probably getting destroyed by new enemies at first. I was thinking of tackling the DLC at SL1 my first time through... but I want to be able to use the new spells and weapons. Oh well, I'm sure I'll still play it a million times regardless and get my money's worth.

Apparently you need to have cleared Anor Londo for the DLC to be available. So I'm guessing level 50+ is recommended for these areas? of course, if it's designed like the rest of the game, you'll be able to beat it at any level.

I have some nice 125 pvp builds on NG and a 350+ build on NG+++. Not sure which will provide the most challenge, but I'm leaning towards NG+++. Enemies are just too weak on NG, even bosses. OTOH, I'll miss out on co-op at lvl 350.

I don't think I'll make a new build from scratch, since it can never be like the very first time when you don't know anything.

Will NG+++ runs be applied to the DLC?

I'm planning on doing the DLC with my third character, a paladin style knight/miracle hybrid that I just barely started. My other two characters are on NG+ and I'd rather tackle the DLC on a first runthrough to see what it's like before going into it on NG+.

I'm guessing that as long as you've past whatever point necessary for the DLC to unlock in your current playthrough, it will be available. For example if you need to have beaten Anor Londo, but are on NG+++ and are still in the burg, it won't unlock in that cycle until you've beaten Anor Londo. I'm sure it factors in the difficulty/soul scaling in consecutive NG+ cycles just like the rest of the game.

Is the console DLC free? As much as I love the series, I don't do paid DLC.

Never mind, I'm going to be all over the PC version anyway. Can't wait.

I hadn't even considered this.

My main character is on NG+ but I started a new build just for this DLC a month or so ago.

Truth is, my main build is by far my favorite build out of all my characters, and he's in NG+... I might just end up playing on my NG+ file anyway.

Oh well, I got another 40 hours of Dark Souls out of it.

I'm more excited about this DLC than I am about any other game coming out this year...

I hope the wait for DLC isn't long. If we want to go into it blind, we'll have to go on a blackout. I'll probably go with one of my sl30s. Chaos weapon & enough vit to not get one-hit. But the difficulty on NG is probably going to be low. Might go with one of my NG+++ characters.
