Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition GamesCom trailer [update: new screens]

Which is more than we can say for Namco.

Don't forget to add a line on the OT like "Complaints about the quality of the port go elsewhere". I don't want to post there if we see tons and tons of complaints about that there, I just want help (and I know I gonna need it...)

This. A joke or two is funny, an OT thread with nothing but complaining is lame.

Yup, the facts about the port can be stated in the OP, but everything that needs to be said regarding the quality of the port has been said. I'd like to hear about what PC gamers think of the game itself upon playing it for the first time.

So, if someone completes the game and has legitimate grievances with the quality of their PC gaming experience, Maedhros says they should be forcefully censored from expressing those?

I disagree quite a lot with you.

An OT is for positive and negative impressions and responses. Its not for simply praising a game in a safe environment free of criticism.

Yes, don't worry. I don't plan to patronize the game in the OP. As it stands, this is my favorite series, and it makes no sense to make a tribute to the game in the form of an OT and do nothing but rag on it. If someone wants to create a PC performance/complaint thread they can do so.

That's not to say OT discussion has to be only positive. But I think the issues regarding the port shouldn't sidetrack the purpose of the OT.

Negative impressions are fine, if they are legitimate impressions and not the same complaints we've been getting for the last several months.

As for the OP...I thought the banner was just a tongue-in-cheek jab at the game...and well, I think it looks pretty cool pixelated like that. :P I think the OP deserves some respect as Dark Souls is an incredible game, but I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of tongue-and-cheek humor thrown in.

I think performance threads makes sense, not necessarily to filter out negativity but to keep technical questions and tweaking tips in a spot that can be easily referenced.

I agree completely. It looked quite cool. I may do it to the current OT image and see how it looks. So thank you for reminding me to mess around with it.

There's little point to performance threads for games that aren't very tweakable though. I wouldn't create it prematurely for this game.

It still reads as an attempt to silence or isolate negative impressions that could be caused by the quality of a port.

In other OTs, we (in theory) allow discussion of glitches, graphical concerns and other negative qualities of a game. I'm uncertain why this should be different.

If someone encounters a glitch due to bad programming, should they be directed to the hypothetical performance thread as not to sully the apparently legitimate conversation happening in the OT?

The problem is that hypothetically it is completely fine; but here it will be hard to avoid discussing the port issues that have been discussed the past few weeks. I'm not saying it should be policed, but it would be nice if the OT doesn't get sidetracked into a discussion about the shitty port. With puns and all.

At least with a separate thread discussion about the port issues can be directed there, and discussion about mechanics, impressions etc won't be pushed to the side.

I think with this game specifically you are gonna run into problems where legitimate OT questions and help are lost in a sea of complaints.

Just look at the thread where the sub 720p frame buffer dropped. That was one of the fastest moving threads I have ever seen on GAF.

Two days away from release and still no new information? So we're to assume that, aside from preview access, they've kept this game from everyone until it finally comes out? This looks worse and worse by the day.

Common practice these days, every year you see less and less information about games up until release day.

I remember in the early 2000s you used to be able to read a review online a week or so before release, now it's always just day of day of day of.

I don't agree with you. The complaints are valid, but they can be made in other topics. The OT isn't for expressing shit, but help and talk about the game. At least, this is the case in most of the OTs here.

I don't wanna enter an OT full of complaints instead of the help I tought I could get.

It's really unfortunate too since I have a gift card and was looking to put some money down for Dark Souls.

But nah, let's just ignore one of the largest online retailers that's making a big push into digital games. :/

They already got Steam and GFWL Store, what else is there lol?

I seriously doubt that Namco (or their shareholders who they would be explaining the poor sales to) are on the pulse of NeoGAF.

I wasn't referring at all to their forum prowess. You had mentioned trendy. When I think of trendy on these boards, I first think of incessant .gifs and too many amirite guys GUYS GUYS!!! cries for peer approval and whatever is the hip new swipe to be taken at folks who enjoy shooters. I like it when we talk about games, though. Pretty cool.

Speaking of Steam, if a code is purchased from GMG and entered into a Steam library, is access to that game permanently lost if access to Steam is permanently lost? Not sure how that would work in this case, as I have little experience entering outside codes into Steam.

Once the code is redeemed the game is like every other game in your steam library, permanently linked to your account.

Thank You. So if Steam and I have a falling out that game is dead to me? Wasn't sure since it isn't Steamworks. As you can see, I clearly have very little experience with entering codes into Steam (and boxed games) and how it works outside of add to cart and hit paypal and enjoy the colorful new images in the giant grid.

retail boxes are being sold in Australia as of yesterday, went and picked mine up last night. Haven't bothered unwrapping it yet as all reports are once installed GFWL gives you a "this game will be playable on Friday the 24th etc.etc" message. Mouse doesn't look toooo shabby though hah

Man its Dark Souls, I havent played since the day they announced the PC version, and I dont have my PS3 version because of it.

Right on the edge of 32.00 after 20% off GMG code :P

Dark Souls PC |OT| When your resolution is ashes, you have my permission to die.

Two days until the fun starts. You may take that literally or sarcastically.
