Darksiders 3 Reveal trailer

Darksiders 1 is probably 15-20 hours, depending on how much side content you want to do
Darksiders 2 is probably 20-25 hours, but has even more side content.

Averages from How Long to Beat:
DS1 - 17 hours
DS2 - 21-23

As of November 5, 2012, the game had only sold 1.5 million copies, with THQ stating that the game "did not perform to our expectations."[/I]

It's important to note that by that time THQ was drawing its dying breath, and only COD-like sales would satisfy their expectations.

I don't think Joe Mad is involved...didn't he quit the studio or something? Was he even involved in Darksiders 2? The art seemed a bit off for that game, compared to the first.

JoeMad left Vigil just before Darksiders II was finished. He exited the company just before THQ collapsed, went to do few comics until he returned to gaming.

I think the game featuring Strife will be a prequel to Darksiders 1.

Strife discovers the conspiracy that is responsible for the events in Darksiders 1. At the end of his quest to get to the bottom of it, he is killed but he manages to get his pistols to the Makers so they can pass it off to his brothers. He is then revived at the end of Darksiders 1 when War breaks the seal.

i have only played Darksiders 2 and found it to be utter crap. I thought Death would be an amazing character, but he was a freakin pussy. just running errands for people. All the quests in that game were equivalent of finding a missing cat, so freakin bad.

Coming from that shitty experience, i have very little hope from the 3rd

yay more female lead characters but Ivy from SC kind of sucks

where's Pestilence? Imagine a fresh and innovative combat mechanic that makes you kill your foes by standing next to them for a couple minutes

I wish they stuck with Famine and Pestilence, I wanna see what gameplay you could design around those concepts.

Famine would be a hand to hand fighter with grappling, and you'd have a hunger mechanic that changes abilities you have access to based on how "full" you are. When you're very hungry you get faster, enemies hit you a lot harder, and you get a bullet time slowdown move as you go into a feeding frenzy, when your full your normal attacks are stronger and you get crowd control black hole/singularity moves. The harder you style in hand to hand the more life force you drain for your hunger.

Pestilence I'll think about later I''m getting lazy.

Trailer doesn't impress.

Most women I know want to wear high heels as often as possible.... Are they negatively sexualising themselves for doing that? I just don't get that line of thinking. The armour looks badass to me, super excited for this game!
No, because there are many women who find high heels empowering.

Let's unleash the beast, then: there are women who find sexuality empowering.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/pamela-madsen/sexually-empowered-woman_b_13070984.html
And even:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SlutWalk

I might be missing something, but it looks to me that "(sexual) empowerment" and "(sexual) objectification" concepts contradict each other.

Perhaps there is negative and positive sexualization, but I'm failing to grasp it yet.

That trailer reminded me of Bloodrayne 2 era of female protagonists in the worst way possible. Disappointed and probably won't play.

I have Darksiders 2 in my steam library and haven't played it. Does the Deathinitive Edition add anything worthwhile over the original in regards to the PC version?

So does Fury not like her brother / brothers ? She didn't seam too upset about War being chained up. I mean Death went on a mission to prove War's innocence in Darksiders 2 but she looked to enjoy that moment, maybe there is a bit of sibling rivalry going on or maybe she is a bit more sadistic than her brothers. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Well the lore says she follows the charred council without question, death how ever seems like he cares not for their politics

Trailer feels like the reveal trailer for a new MOBA character lol. Not super impressed at the moment but will keep an eye on this.

She was supposed to destroy the council, not join them!

lol @ plate high heels.

Also here face looks super weird and off putting, it gives me battle born vibes for some reason.

Just feels like a comic book character from 2001 or something, it's like they tried to make her super evil sexy but totally missed the mark on the sexy part.

I still think War has the best design out of the four, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really excited for some awesome whip action. It's Castlevania time.

Edit: This fanart of Death without his mask might be cooler though

Interesting, I guess this game will lead to her changing her views on The Council by the end, as she is seen coming to help War (along side Death and Strife) at the ending to Darksiders / Darksiders 2.

Will have to read up on the lore, especially now Darksiders is no longer a dead series.

Not feeling that protagonist at all.

Not the look, not the voice, not the action in the trailer, nothing.

Which is too bad, as I enjoyed the first two games enough. Am not definitely out, but am not hyped at this point either.

Not trying to yuck anyone's yum, but when I first saw the thumbnail I was like, "you play as a woman in the next Darksiders game, how unexpected!" Then I saw the design and thought, "yeah, that is more like what I should have expected..."

Not feeling it, although the only time I was ever interested in Darksiders was the concept before the release of the first. Also, disregarding the PC-ness of a female protagonist, I don't really like playing as females in RPG's. I tend to project myself into a role playing game, and playing as a woman just doesn't do it for me. I know that's weird (or possibly even offensive) to some of you, but that's just how I feel.

Kind of surprised they decided to even continue with this IP.

I think it's pretty weird. If girls felt that way before lots of recent games started getting female protagonists they would've just had nothing to play because it's all dudes. It's a good thing. Not a bad thing.
You can still relate to their personalities and reactions to situations. Not sure why a digital characters body makes a big difference.

The trailer is not that good at all, considering the trailers for the last two, this one underwhelming but I find Fury awesome looking as hell, maybe cause I aint into mobas or arena stuff and I aint that familiar to this kind of design.

I find it pretty weird that people can project/relate to War and Death(or at least you think you can since you haven't played) yet Fury being female makes it impossible.

Trailer is underwhelming, Fury's design needs tweaking and I'm worried about the "open-ended" part of the game's description, as I prefer DS1 to 2. But I'm glad they're back for a third game! Jesper Kyd's music is awesome, the lore has a lot of potential and the art style is one I love.

Still can't get DS1's ending out of my head. It's like a carrot on a stick, at the end of such a wonderful game.

I'm by no means saying its a deal breaker, if the game is good I would still play it. And I would understand if females thought the same about having to play an RPG as a male. RPG games are about fantasy and building a character you can call your own, I just prefer playing as guys.

And if you think about it, it's all weird. Action RPGs take advantage of our human instinct for power and bloodlust. Games often cater to people's core power fantasies whether we can explain it or not, and that happens to be part of mine.

Oh, I'm definitely into this. Very much looking forward to playing as Fury, even though her characterization seems to be deviating from what little personality we saw in the "Abomination Vault" novel (understandably so; she only appeared in half a chapter!). Regardless, Bayonetta 2 of 2014 was the last time I remember playing as a female character in a high-budget action-heavy video game, so I'm welcoming Darksiders 3 with open arms.

Just two things on my wishlist:

1) Devil Bringer. Please bring it back from DS2!

2) And speaking of DS2, the return of that game's combat director. All my hype from DS2 came from the combat director posting shit-tons of info right here on GAF, ranging from Death's starting moveset to a number of awesome GIFs showing off the complete potential of the freeform combat system. These are the details that I pay attention to when DMC-like combat is featured in a video game. :)

Her design really isn't that common for an action game like this. I wonder how the whip will work because that isn't very common either, probably because it's tricky to animate.

Well youre mostly wrong.

RPGs ARENT mostly about Building a character to call your own... Its about taking on a character and experiencing a story through them. Male, Female... It doesnt matter. This isnt some "Make your own character choose your own story" game.

You take on deliberate roles of already established characters in a story driven action adventure. Youre not meant to PROJECT yourself into the characters... Youre meant to TAKE ON the Role of that character.

I will be happy if its like the Blades of Kratos but a little longer reach maybe.

I think you'll get over that feeling pretty easily if you consider that you're also not an ancient Nephilim supersoldier, so you can't relate there, either.

All jokes aside, you'll eventually start seeing characters for their challenges and experiences, relating that way, rather than to the gonads in their pants.

I think the difference between taking on a role and projecting yourself into one can have a huge overlap. You're still playing a role, and I want to play roles that I'm interested in. Would you be interested in playing a goat in this game all other things being the same and it was a cool goat? probably not. It's preference and it's relatability.

See I get what you're saying, but I think GAF has a weird thing about gender. If I was saying I didn't like the style of the game it would be accepted, and that's just lines and colors, it doesn't effect gameplay either. I like the "idea" of playing as certain types of characters, and playing as a female character isn't as enticing to me as playing as a male. And like I said in my reply above, there is projection into a character you control, it's normal. We like to play as people in games because we relate it to ourselves, in that same way I'd rather play as my gender. Not sure what else to say, it's my preference and it's one of the reasons I'm less pumped about the game. I wouldn't even mention it, but it's pretty much the only thing we've seen about it.

He is t wrong at all, you just have a skewed idea of what rpg means.

Oh boy that's some ugly art reminds me of a bad Warcraft comic/manga garbage thing I read once.

At least the game's design and Fury in the game looks better then that.

Some disagree, but that's just Joe Mad's shtick that he's known and loved in some circles for. He's basically the western nomura. I mean look at this:

I really dislike the vast majority of his designs as well, but different strokes I guess?

You're gonna play as a humanoid, that should be enough.
What do you have in common with War, apart from a penis ?
