Datel has released Action Replay Powersaves for 3DS

Wait, how does this work, actually? 3DS cart saves have some degree of encryption so simple HEX editing the saves does not work, although the encryption is not system-dependent (for obvious reasons). If I understand correctly, does this upload the saves into Datel's servers, which use hacked 3DS units running custom homebrew software to decrypt them, apply the cheats, encrypt them and then send them back? That's crazy if true.

All of the cheat things.

Wait. So you're telling me... this can back up my 200 hour Pokemon Y save? From the cartridge?

It's a shame that this is only for carts and doesn't work for digital games. However, does it work with DS game carts too, or just 3DS? I'd love an easy tool to back up some of my DS games' saves.
its only for 3DS games
you can get any back up device for DS games , or even use a real action replay for DS

Datel use hacked 3DS on their server side , i think they have a farm for hacked 3DS

the device will read the 3DS game save game, you can back up the save game or chose the wanted code , then the save transfer to Datel's server to apply the code
all the decryption and encryption magic is done in their server
i think this is better , we don't wanna the keys to be released to the public , when this happen , it will become just like the DS

I love the shitty knockoff art on these things.

The official website doesn't list what codes they have, just what games they support. I really hope there aren't any codes that work in online multiplayer because that would ruin it.

well...there is codes that give you 999 items in pokemon XY
they released unreleased items , but they take it back
however, i don't think this could do effect the online in pokemon game
the only unreleased code is the mega stones and some berries

It is a very roundabout way to do it, that's for sure. I would love to see their setup. I guess they have an automated process that copies the save, boots the game, loads the save, applies the cheat into RAM, saves and then copies back the file.

They either use some sort of flash cards to load the games or have built some sort of 3DS game card hub.

Datel is cool in my book.
They (briefly, didn't last long) gave me region-free Wii before softmodding was a thing and somI could play NMH with gore, plus PAL games on my US/JPN GameCube and reg1 NTSC DVDs on my PAL PS2 back then.

Sounds like a pretty good product. 20 is really nothing to be able to backup my saves, hell so many times I've decided to not restart Pokemon since I don't feel like loosing everything.

Also I've always like Datel ever since they gave me the Freeloader. Perfect for playing English games on my foreign Gamecube.

I like how the shinfying codes have to change the trainer ID to match the shiny value on the Pokemon. (Looked it up because I wanted to know how it worked)

Or in other words, you'd better nickname your Pokemon before you make it shiny, because it'll act like a traded Pokemon afterward.

As a whole, I'm not too impressed with Datel. I'm personally hoping 3ds save decryption reaches the point where I can personally back up saves, and if anything bad happens to the cart, I can replace the save. Because right now, the save backup feature just isn't as useful as I would like.

will this enable cheats on competitive games? will everybody have a Shiny Kalos Pokemon now?

Being shiny doesn't give you a competitive advantage. Powersaves can only edit the save file, and can't affect the game mechanics - anything that can't be done legitimately will be blocked by the filters on Pokémon's Rated Battle mode.

In short: Powersaves can't give you any competitive advantages (short of saving you some breeding time).

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I just bought one of these for some RPGs I am playing. Is there a thread for anyone to share their saves at here? Or is this even possible?
