Dave Perry relates his thoughts on the PS3

Wow, the defense is strong in this topic.

Ratchet and Clank Future, Heavenly Sword, Lair and LittleBigPlanet are on a level that was never seen before, on any other console. Especially the last one, it looks like a CGi Pixar movie, with texture, shader, physics, modelling details and effects like motion blur on a level never seen before in a game.

Dave Perry isn't exactly the person to trust (I don't think he's working on next-gen games now), but it's not a secret that PS3 is the most capable out of next-gen consoles.

Lol please.

I'd say if it is indeed the case it's a very well kept secret atm. Because as far as I can see Mass Effect and GOW > Lair etc. in graphical terms.

At least he's honest. PS3 has the most powerful system, but will probably lose because it's expensive, and the games aren't close to matching the power of the system.

His article brought up memories of the Dreamcast. Sony has too much money to end the way Sega ended, but it wouldn't surprise me if the PS3 ended the way Dreamcast ended.

Messiah is the most recent one and it's 7 years old and scores a 73% on gamesranking. Mediocre at best.
I liked Messiah, had some very cool ideas and humour. It had some flaws, but i liked it nonetheless.
Sacrifice was newer than Messiah and the best Shiny game too, really innovative and fun.

Hmm ok.

Didn't Shiny make Heart of Darkness too?

Because that guy is just flaming for no reason. When you make it obvious, people just tend to ignore the entire post.

Expessing your opinion is flaming now? He believes that certain PS3 games look better than anything he has seen. That's flaming? It's not like he's saying that X360 is d00med like this guy is saying about PS3:

Now that's flaming. So... will you attack him too or you'll just ignore it because you like what he says?

Put on your pads, boys. You're going to the Hyper Bole.

No, the game was made by Eric Chahi (with a studio, I don't remember its name). Chahi was a creator of Another World.

Now that was a good game :) Remember playing it on a mates 286...

haha @ your repeated attempts to discredit the guy.

What attempts? He hasn't made a good game in over 10 years so why is he even opening his mouth?

If there was going to be some kind of graphical deathblow by Sony, it would have happened by now. Ratchet and Clank seemed a likely candidate.

As I've already said, if we're to believe those shots of Ratchet and Clank, and the game runs as seamlessly as we've come to expect of Insomniac's properties, it introduces a noticeable leap above anything on the other system. People like you, for whatever reason, what to shut your eyes and cover your ears. You drool at games like Mass Effect, which looks good, and then pan Ratchet and Clank, which looks godly. Give me a break. The PS3 is doing everything that anyone who's reasonable anticipated. It is demonstrating a discernable step forward from the 360. Some of you act as if this is poisonous to gaming. Shouldn't we welcome that?

It's obvious, to anyone with two functioning eyes and an absence of bias. With PS3 games, most people are left stunned, racked with disbelief over what they're seeing. With the best looking 360 titles, they conjure up banal superlatives that are deserved but predictable. "Awesome" "Sexy!!" "Sweet!!" With the games mentioned above, most people can't help but let drool pound their keyboards. "HOL!!@!!@!@#!#@@#Y SHEEEEEEE..." "WHAT?S?SFD is that REAL?!?!?!" People don't want to believe. Let them stew in their resentment.

Avatar very fitting :)

Unbelievable that anyone would try to question Perry's credibility and try to discredit him by questioning his considerable achievements. He's a shrewd and canny operator who has expressed his prudent opinion that the PS3 has the most powerful ability and quality and that it is the console that really gets his juices flowing.

Well done my fellow Juniors! Surely Mr. Kutaragi will reward us handsomely for our work done in this thread. Let the non-believers tremble in our presence, for we who walk the true path of enlightenment know the majesty and glory of His creation.

Well, best in which context? Given it's ability to put many 1000 dollar bluray players to shame, and considering no less than a 20gb hard drive standard, 4 usb ports, and (i think we can safely conclude) a higher level of reliability than it's heavyweight next-gen counterpart (360), I think it is the best piece of hardware. But it doesn't really excel in any specific area. The cell's theoretical processing power is massive, but who knows how long it will take to see it being used at even 50%. Multiplatform games, partly as a result of the direction of porting, have ended up not looking as polished as their 360 versions. So it's certainly not the best in terms of visuals (from what we've seen thus far).

But, if Sony maintains the life-cycle of the PS3 the way they've done with the PS2 (and they should), people may forget specifically about hardware and just focus on the fact that the PS3 is the best system overall. Then again, further exploitation of cell coupled with an ever-increasing capability to push the RSX could lay any doubts about it being the best piece of hardware to rest. The PS3 will not be the only console to evolve, however.

Either way in 3 some-odd years I have a feeling people will admit that Sony was right about a lot of things, and the PlayStation name will come out on top once again. But what do I know...

The PS3 is an amazing machine, but developers seem to be just fine with treating it as the second console for the time being.

Why hello there Mrs. Perry. Tell your son he needs to stop making shitty Matrix games and go back to doing what he knows how to do.

No, I think that was Interplay/Infogrammes. It was a REALLY awesome game though, wish I could download and play it on the PS3. It was very 1980's Spielberg/Lucas.

EDIT: I forgot to add, I like Dave Perry, cus his name reminds me of Dave Perry, which reminds me of the Fifth Element, which reminds me of that episode of Johnny Bravo that Luke Perry had a cameo in.

EDIT 2: The bottom line is that his opinion is far more valid and more informed than 99% of the people on this board, it's as simple as that.
