I had faith in you Lynch

Good to see Showtime capitulate. Now is time for me to finish Season 2 to get ready for the next season, I guess.

Yes!!!

Aside from a true continuation of Twin Peaks I really want to see Lynch Direct again. I enjoyed b Inland Empire quite a bit. It's been too long.

It's funny, I had just accepted that the third season would never happen now.

This makes me happy.

Not only is the stalemate over, but Showtime has committed to producing more than the nine episodes originally ordered.

"This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever," Showtime president David Nevins said in a statement Friday confirming the news. "Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!!”

So was the sticking point Lynch determined he would need more than 9 episodes to tell the story?

No, if I remember right: It was budget issues. Lynch wanted more money than Showtime wanted to allocate for the sake of "feel"/90's redo of the Twin Peaks sets. But Showtime didn't want to fund that, so he walked. I guess part of their deal and the Twitter pushing is that Lynch gets a bit more cash and able to direct more episodes if he's able to keep within that budget.

I've never seen the series but I heard Deadly Premonition is an homage to it so this still leaves me strangely excited.

If you liked Deadly Premonition, you should certainly give Twin Peaks a try. They have their differences, but also much in common, though the stories go in very different directions.

Needing more episodes (and more money because of that) than originally planned is exactly the type of thing that I could see Showtime balking over enough to have him walk out. I always though it was really weird for them to walk away from the deal after announcing it to so much fanfare over simple budget issues, but this makes more sense.
