Looking better than before, and this gen has been quite bare on the console ARPG front, so I won't say no.

This fall's been great with Ookami, Devil Summoner and (soon) Twilight Princess though.

In the end, I think this gen with about equal last generation overall (though 2D ARPGs were extinct on consoles barring EGG Dreamcast). Doesn't compare to the ARPG heydays of 8/16bit, but I doubt anything ever will.

first they give us 9 amazing Final Fantasy games, Crono Trigger/Cross, Xenogears etc. and then they make junkyard crap like FFX, FFX-2, FFXI, FFXII, Unlimited Saga, Kingdom Hearts, Dawn of Mana and it goes on and on.

I played Dawn of Mana at TGS, and it was a shit load of fun. This is a day one purchase for me.

Loved the original actually, and it's easily held up the best. I liked SD2 a lot too at the time, never fell for the broken SD3 and after that Mana's decline was fairly self evident.

Dawn played really well when I played it at TGS. Besides, this is the first actual numbered SD since 3.

The original didn't have multiplayer either. In fact SD4 is modeled after the original, at least according to Ishii. Hence the similar story, lack of multiplayer, more focus on Zelda-like interaction puzzles, Kenji Ito music, etc.

My interest rises with every new screen and video for this game.

I've loved both the first and the second KH, so i'll love this too.

The only sad part is that they are making this game more based on the awful first Mana game. If only it was taking after SD3 ( the best Mana ever ). Oh well.

Can someone break down for me in little tiny pieces exactly what's bad about all the recent Mana games and (presumably, from your visceral reactions to these screenshots) this game? Secret of Mana always seemed like a solid ARPG that nonetheless was mostly notable for its multiplayer feature, so I guess I've never understood what, exactly, people were so upset was missing from later iterations.

The Mana series for me right now is like that faithful drink that you turn to when you're halfway getting there - it looks very appealing, you feel good drinking it and you enjoy it's effects.

Then you wake up and feel like utter shit.

The last good Mana game was SD3. Or maybe I'm just being delusional and the series wasn't that great after all.
