True story, I was jet lagged 5 hours from EDT and I still had trouble falling asleep at 11pm when first arriving in alaska.

I have trouble falling asleep every night in the summer. Just ordered new sleeping mask to help fight the sun this year.

I'd get blackout curtains if I owned my place, no point in spending the $$$ in a rental tho.

Always my feelings

On a serious note. I thought DST existed for a scientific reason. Why does most of GAF hate this and want it gone? Why the hate? It's just time

One of the few thing I love about my province is that it's the one Canadian province that does not change the clocks for DST. I imagine it's a pain in the ass adjusting all the devices that aren't connected to the internet; stoves, microwaves, cars, etc.

It stays light longer and the maps in splatoon rotate at easier to remember times. Oh yeah, I'm ready.

A single state getting rid of it would be abysmal because it would be out of sync with the rest of the country.

So, it'd be like Arizona and a few Indian reservations, then?

Also, good if California does it. Other states should follow. It's a bullshit practice that does nothing.

I wonder if the people who love DST are on the eastern side of their time zone and the people who hate it on the western side of their time zone.

Being in Illinois, I love it.

For someone who doesn't live in US/Europe, seriously, why do you keep this thing alive? This is one of the dumbest ideas the mankind has ever produced... Gladly most of South America doesn't care of that shit (except for keeping track on US series or US based TV events)...

The absolute worse. There is already plenty of sunlight. I prefer to get a proper amount of sleep.

Wish it would go away.

Because the compliance costs involved in changing it are worse than keeping it around, useless as it is.

Saves a fair bit of electricity (when tallied nationwide) IIRC. By moving the hour you're using more of the available daylight to actually live in.

Working a 12 hour shift tonight. I glanced at my watch when it was 1:30AM, 30 mins later it was 3:00AM.

Time traveling feels good man.

People are excited for a week of increased number of car accidents.

Other countries are confused why USA does this antiquated rule.

Naa you're ok. Unlike your nations issues with units and dates, you actually match the majority of Europe in this instance.

This was true once, when lights were 60 watt.

During the last ten years, most people have switched to bulbs that use between 3 to 12 watt.

Right after 1:59:59 I felt my body pulled and torn in every direction with the most horrific pain for a split second, and then it was 3:00

So that's what it's like to be awake during these things

Here in AZ we are stuck in the past while most everyone else is experiencing the future.. how is the future.. has Trump been impeached yet?

I don't get all that rage against DST.

Like where's the problem, the fuck can a human being not handle to get up one hour ealier once a year? lol

Why am I even awake for this? I have no idea. Now sitting in shitty DST for the next few months. Checked all the clocks and everything auto updated except the coffee pot, micro, and stove.

This guy gets it.

Losing one hour of sleep on a random Saturday night is better worth the extra hours of sunlight

Do you people complaining about this all hate spending more time in your day with the sun out?
I actually fucking do. For a lot of people, sunlight is associated with famine and drought so fuck sunlight hours, I want rain and cool weather and night time.

I thought I blacked out for a second when it was 1 something and now it's 3.

Fuck yeah, love DST, only for the sun going down later. Feels nice coming home from school/work with it still being bright outside, really changes your mood.

Nope. It's horrible for farmers and it's horrible for energy usage both. It started as a satirical proposal by Ben Franklin but gained enough true believers by WWI to sign into law.

Annually, DST changes kill ten+ times more Americans than domestic terrorism. The changes also cost billions of dollars in dangers via lost productivity.

Keep DST all year round.

DST needs to be a permanent thing here In Mass. I hate in the winter when the sun is gone by 4. If they remove DST they better move us a time zone over lol.

Daylight savings time is actually pretty awesome when you work over night. One hour less work. Now I just need to request vacation time for when the other day hits.

Even at 8w, assuming a house might have 3 on for that 1 hour, thats not an insignificant amount across a nation.

Also bearing in mind that if that nation has lots of solar power, running the country while its mostly daylight is better.

I also should say, the family think we might be related to William Willett, who pushed for it in the UK. He died a year before it became law in the UK. He is also Chris Martins great Great Grandfather!

Through vigorous campaigning, by 1908 Willett had managed to gain the support of a member of parliament (MP), Robert Pearce, who made several unsuccessful attempts to get it passed into law. A young Winston Churchill promoted it for a time,[7] and the idea was examined again by a parliamentary select committee in 1909 but again nothing was done. The outbreak of the First World War made the issue more important primarily because of the need to save coal. Germany had already introduced the scheme when the bill was finally passed in Britain on 17 May 1916 and the clocks were advanced by an hour on the following Sunday, 21 May, enacted as a wartime production-boosting device under the Defence of the Realm Act. It was subsequently adopted in many other countries.

Also, regarding Franklin

Daylight saving time (DST) is often erroneously attributed to a 1784 satire that Franklin published anonymously.[39] Modern DST was first proposed by George Vernon Hudson in 1895.[40]
