Daytona USA announced by SEGA... sorta =)

I have a confession to make:
I've never played a Daytonna game before in my life, but I still wanna join the hype =(

Sega lost the licenses years ago; they rereleased an arcade revision of Daytona with all daytona-reference removed a couple of years, under a super generic name, like Classic Racing Cars. It was an upport of the original dayona on modern hardware. I'm pretty sure this is what we will be getting.. Its going to be Dayona, but with every reference to daytona neutered..

There's a new Daytona USA game on the way, judging by a Sega tease that went earlier live today.

A post on Sega's US blog asks readers to take a look at a video teasing a classic franchise that's about to get the reboot treatment, then take a guess at the name of the game. 10 randomly picked winners will receive a PlayStation 3 copy of the game when it launches. It'll be a digital download version, suggesting the game won't be a full disc release.

Given that the vid in question, which you can see below, features Daytona USA's immortal "Rolling start!" theme, we'd say a revival of Sega's 1993 classic arcade racer seems a safe bet.

The promotion ends on 10th October, so look out for a formal reveal some time around then.

Sega is hinting that they're making a music game that will let you sing to that tune. It's not like in their interest to revive anything that people wants.

There's absolutely nothing to stop them sub-licensing the Daytona licence from one of the current holders. They did that back when Hasbro held the licence and they were trying to release Daytona on Dreamcast.

This is SO fucking awesome. I mean, we knew it was coming but now it's for sure.
I love all the classic Sega arcade racers so much...

man, this pre-announcement vid confirming Daytona USA + news of God Hand coming to PSN...best damn monday in a long time :)

Pour soul!

Daytona and Sega Rally were some of the reasons I was always skinny, since I spent all my food money on the arcade machines! Good Times!
 
Let's keep expectations low. This is either the arcade version or the Dreamcast version. I'd be pleasantly surprised if it included anything from Daytona 2 though.
