DayZ Standalone Steam early access coming very soon

Release it on the day World War Z comes out in theaters for maximum confusion. Will be getting this.

no need to hype it up, just drop it like the mod "here you go" - best scenario right there

I think it would have been like that except the devs keep changing their minds on what they want. Last year they said it would be out before Christmas and no ifs, ands or buts it HAD to be out by then. Here we are half a year (almost) later and still nothing lol.

Though I guess it will be better off for it. Just wish Dean would focus on it 100% and get it out for sure instead of going off hiking everest for 2 months

From the interview it is going to be cheapest in Alpha, however it will also be the shittiest haha.

Well that's what Alpha is. You don't buy Alpha code expecting polish. You buy it to test and give feedback

Ditto. I was really holding out for the standalone so this is great news!

Any idea on how steep the learning curve will be for those who have never played Day-Z?

Get ready to die a lot. Enjoy it while you can, my best memories in DayZ are the oldest ones when I had no clue what I was doing.

EDIT: As to the post above it is likely "soon-soon" I would personally bet it'll come out next month, assuming their tests regarding their new "server-client" architecture go well.

Soon as in 'soon-soon' or soon as in '"We plan to release before the end of the year (2012)"-soon'?

Alpha releases June. Closed testing started today I think for mods on reddit and mods elsewhere etc.
It should go up on steam's early access programme in June or early July

Shit, is it Steam exclusive?

I hate Steam exclusives but for mutliplayer stuff its currently the best system both for the developers and players themselves.

To expand: all your friends are on one place, no need to sign up for difference services and patching will be painless.

Why would that be a problem?

Because I want to run games without Steam?

We don't use Steam anymore.
