DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

You scavenge for items now, as individual parts, picking up pieces rather than piles, looking for cans on shelves or under beds. The new system opens the door for durability of items, disease tracking (cholera lingering on clothes a player wears…), batteries, addon components, and much more. If you shoot a player in the head to take his night vision, you will damage the night vision. The changes to this inventory system are huge.

Eh, it should be on Arma 3 engine ;\ at least crafting system sounds good.

Bottom of the page but whatever... Personally this sounds like something that will turn me off from the game. One thing I did like about the first was that I scavenged for complete things. I understand and appreciate why they're going this route. I feel this will deter me from the game though as will durability.

edit: I will say that is unless the parts are plentiful and there are some 'base' weapons. Picking up an M16 that just works - great. Oh, I found an ACOG scope that can go in or a SAW - attach.

A friend of mine sent this to me. Reminded me of how I play DayZ. lol

I miss when this game use to actually have random friendlies. They dont seem to exist anymore... or well um I never wait to find out anymore :P

I've been screwed enough times being "friendly" players that I pretty much always kill on sight or once I feel I can get away with it.]

Edit: Made it my avatar, lol

Any news on when the standalone is coming out. I was tempted to buy ARMA II during the Steam holiday sale, but I know for a fact that it's not stable, so I figured I'd hold out.

DayZ is stable, but right now I think people that don't own ARMA II should hold off on buying ARMA II if they only want to play DayZ. But if you do buy ARMA II there is lots you can do in that (like play on Wasteland servers) that may make ARMA II worth while. But I think ARMA 3 should be coming out before this summer.

I get hyped by watching YouTube videos of people roaming around, and all the random shit that happens.

But I'll wait. I don't think I'll have much use for ARMA II outside of DayZ.

I'm in that same boat. I watched a video of a guy getting abducted and forced to participate in a gameshow. It made me want to own the game. :)

Hmmmm, haven't played in a few months admittedly, and I was definitely one of the sincerely "friendly" characters out there. Kindof worried about getting back in there unless I plan to go completely lone wolf for fear of getting shot...repeatedly.

Can and how do you use a hatchet as a weapon while having an AKM equipped as your primary weapon?

I only seem to be able to drop the AKM on the ground to use the hatchet.

What I do is find a bigger backpack and then put my primary gun in there. It takes up 10 slots, but it's good to have when someone is shooting at you.

That is the problem though. I played about 40 hours and never killed another player!

Got killed about 90% of the time meating other players :(

There sould be an incentive to work together!!

been enjoying takistan wasteland, really nice change for a break from dayz. too bad the hackers seem even more rampant :\

I've been playing a lot of Wasteland and it seem to feel like I've encountered hackers 2-3 times. Once they teleported everybody into the stratosphere, people that were duping money, and once where it seemed like an enemy player kept teleporting all around me attacking from many angles.

Any point in even playing DayZ until we get standalone? I've been kind of missing it and feeling like playing it lately but the hackers were awful. Still the case for a lot of the servers right?

At this point I have no idea whats going on. No updates. No Release date on Standalone. Talk of an Xbox port. Its crazy but not in a good "get hyped" kinda way.

i realize that the release date had to be pushed back because quality over etc. but i wish they would at least do some dev posts to show whats going. its really scary being left in the dark and all you hear is how great this game is gonna be or how if they have enough sales they are gonna make an xbox port or how they price went from like 10$ to 20 pounds? (which again i understand why it would, just no proof to back it up.)

Been playing a lot of this with a friend. Once we found out about the pine tree trick (exploit?), exploring towns isn't so daunting, though we are still extremely cautious and have had some close calls.

Just three of us playing--we have good pistols and assault rifles and just found three boxes full of medical supplies. Three working vehicles, and we know the location of a chopper that needs repair, which we're researching.

Luckily, the server we play on is run by good people, and we haven't run into any bandits (though my friend was shot at several times as he ran to meet me in Cherno).

Even more luckily, we haven't encountered any game-breaking bugs, although I did respawn in a vehicle and was instantly "run over" (not killed, luckily) and we learned the extremely hard way that every vehicle has a max capacity (lost an M16M203, 10 bandages, lots of food, ammo :-\)

Game is damned good. I think the next step is building a base so we can store some of our shit. Having a great time so far--can't wait for the standalone to remove some of the jank.

It's great news and I hope, as some suggested in the thread about it, that it really is Greece saying "Fuck off and don't come back". If they actually get dragged back for a court case it might just be as bad.

I don't expect them to help with the project for the next while. I can only imagine what 128 days away from your family must feel like. I wonder if they've grown closer or if they hate each other now.

Damn, I thought castles were supposed to house good loot! Two buddies and I spent a tense 10 minutes approaching/crawling to and around Devil's Castle, only to find Makarov mags, soda, bandages, and a Czech backpack. Super anticlimactic :(

Yeah, they only count as residential buildings. There's too big a risk of falling off the stairs to your death to check 'em out.

Also, according to an AMA on Reddit, expect Stand Alone before April. Maybe. We hope.
