DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

I think adding companion dogs will have a huge impact emotionally for people playing a lot. If you manage to survive a very long time with the same dog, and he suddenly gets shot by a bandit, I would feel the rage building up and the need for vengeance.

If I see someone with a dog I'll take the dog out and leg it. Make them live without the mutt.

Can you actually repair and fly helicopters in this mod? Or only cars/boats?

Yes, helis are in. Green ones can be repaired and flown.

Lies I met up with the main group the other day to deliver precious ammo and blood packs.

Yesterday I just stalked the group watching them from a distance.

Pfft. Stalking is not being social. You probably only brought them ammo and blood so you could see if anyone had collected something you might want to kill them for :P

This mod sounds fantastic. I just bought AA:CO from Bohemia to get in on the action. Don't know if it's my connection tonight but the d/l is going to take 14 hours apparently. Internet is running fine so Bohemia must be getting slammed. Oh well, I'm just going to keep on reading these great stories.

Oh, for the Dr Kimble fans -

What's up with the direct (proximity based) voice chat in the game? Does it work? Does it attract zombies? I'm hearing different things and I had no chance to try it in game yet.

Doesn't work in the current ARMA patch. Next patch is supposed to fix it. Not sure if it affects zombie aggro.

That would be the next patch :P

You can download the Beta patch now and it's backwards compatible, no need to wait around. It's going to be quite a while before an official patch is released, official patch releases are far and few in between, always 30 beta patches before that happens.

Decided to jump into this today. First life lasted maybe 10 minutes as bled to death from a very slow bleed while trying to figure out how to bandage myself.

Second life started out pretty interesting since I spawned next to the airfield I figured I'd be able to find some equipment. Search the airfield and nada, go to the military encampment out front, climb a ladder and see equipment!, proceed to get stuck on the top of the ladder and then fall and break my legs. Respawn. :\

Okay, so I had this very, very, very frustrating session.

I found a place with a lot of dead zombies and a dead player as well. There're lots of objects all around, but there're still some zombies in the place. The dead body has a machine gun, so I switch over that (low ammo) and kill the remaining zombies. Then I see a sniper rifle and I pick it up, but it's empty, so I switch back to the machine gun... but I can't. The machine gun has vanished and I can't find it. So I go back to my old trusty winchester just to find all the ammo I had is gone, I guess to the same place where the machine gun went.

So my only option after that was quitting.
That's not your only option. You really don't need to use a primary weapon unless a) no ammo for pistol or b) against another player. But there is a bug that sometimes happens when switching weapons off the ground. The easiest way to look at a new weapon is to switch it into the pile you are taking the weapon out of. Though just know that all weapons are empty when you pick them up unless you pick them up with ammo for the weapon. They don't have ammo in the clip.

With the wheel you access a contextual menu. From there you can heal yourself, eat, etc..

Yeah I figured that out when I accidentally ate my can of food. :) Any tips on the ladders? It feels like I have to hop over the ladder to get to whatever structure I'm trying to get onto.

I wonder if the loot respawn on the servers is mandated by the main server, and that's why, while I was online and playing and nobody else managed to join, no loot was showing up anywhere, since the main server was probably being overloaded with requests.

Yeah, same thing here. Loot needs to be a sure value. I can't spend 20 min clearing an entire village to find nothing. That's just makes me sad. :(

I don't recall how I got here. By Prigo. Does this disease that has raised the dead also raise the sleeping?

Journeying across fields to Nix and indigo. Told to avoid a fool with flares. I saw the damage wrought with flashlights, how could anyone run about wi........................

I find my way along powerlines, ever comforting, to Nix and indigo. We climb mountains. I get lost on a mountain top, a clearing. Laying in wait for my companions. They spot another. Nix, knowing my face, knows this stranger is not I. But the survivor continues on, hardly phased by them. Perhaps relieved not to simply be shot for being alive and not I.

Mob and liquid are met north of the dam. G. Newell stalks us once again. But no taunts this night. Staroye is cleared. My pistols finds its mark again and again, but no shamblers are ended by it.

Daylight comes. Nix has wandered off. To Gorka, to the north we head. This land so tempting.

We begin to clear the edge of the town of the dead. I walk towards Mob. Then all I see is forest. I recognize this place. The Black Forest. Have I dreamt these travels? Has this disease begun to take hold? I head north, back to Gorka. Walking death stands between the group and I. Circling the town. Mob leading me back. Water refilled. We return more of the dead to their graves. Ready to continue our journey north. A shed, cleared. The dead approach, but are easily dispatched. I step. But to the ground I fall. Everything grey. Unable to process whether I stupidly found myself in front of a weapon, or whether the dead have ended me, or if some shed door struck out and took my heart. Only time to tell the others to take my rifle, rarely used. Darkness falls this morning.

Near an airstrip. Wandering the coast. No hope here. Why ought there be. No man in sight. Only death and the jarring movements of the risen. My hands are not steady. Bullets fly as I liberate a gas station from death. And oh shit I am rewarded for it.

Back to the airstrip I must go! Salvation? Liberation from traveling these death filled lands. Escape! Daring, I run down the airstrip. Hangars! Hope!

Emptiness. Defeat. No helicopter to take me away. I stumble down the road. A field hospital. I dispatch its former attendants. Then my world stops. Not death. Not that I can comprehend. But my travels stopped. But alive.

Drop me a message on Steam and I'll play with ya :) Won't be in the next half hour, though.

I have a fuckload of Gen X's stuff so if I die and lose it all I'm blaming it on you when he has to find it all again ;)

I was going to jump on in a min and continue heading towards your location, reduce your waiting time and all that. :)

Maybe. The guy already said he's stopping work on the asset and asked that the thread be closed. Someone posted twice in the thread with suggestions, and they didn't SEEM very rude to me, but the author claimed they were coming across as a douche and said for them to get the fuck out of their thread etc.

Also as someone pointed out, having the *PING I'M OUT OF AMMO* sound could be a disadvantage. :P However, the whole thing makes me want to play ET:RTCW again. Grenade launcher all day with that gun.

Can anybody else not join server, me and a friend are having problems. He is stuck on waiting for server connection and I just can't move and have an ingame image.

Jesus they DayZ forums are filled with absolute assholes. Not even the M1 thread but other ones I have lurked in or posted in. You have 12 year old's talking shit about 12 year old's essentially. Some how one little aspect of absolute realism trumps the countless other aspects of sacrificed realism inherent in any video game, not matter how badass of a sim it is.

It makes me happy to know that Rocket sees a mod team as being free reign to do whatever the fuck they want without worry of losing customers.

God damn it, thrown back into the meat grinder again. Last night I was reset back to the beach after being at the airfield in 1.5.6 save. I had to escape out of Elektro with tons of zeds and hostiles in broad daylight. Looks like I will be doing it again. This is a bandits paradise.
