DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

This mod is one of the most incredible gaming experiences ever.

Found and went into a city (later found out it's called elektroniskchovejtnsosm) in the middle of the night. Sneaked around for a few hours with nothing but an axe and a flashlight, it felt so intense and immersive, trying to not bother any zombies along the way, kept hearing gunshots a bit far away and I noticed some sort of commotion in the distance when I was in the rooftop of one of the buildings, so I knew I wasn't alone which made it even more scary and intense. Eventually it got very dark and I started having to use my flashlight indoors to be able to see my way around. After investigating for a while I spotted a house in the edge of the city I could enter, I approached it and as I entered the yard I heard footsteps so I dived into the bushes, and this guy comes out of the house, man I was so scared of getting spotted, he had some sort of huge rifle on him and I still had no proper weapon, only the axe and a bunch of supplies and ammo, but he just ran past me. I stayed there on the bushes for a good couple of minutes, my heart beating fast, trying to see where he went. Anyways after I explore the house I decide to head towards the middle of the city. It got super dark at this point and I could barely see my way outside, I was dodging walking zombies by their noise. Then as I was following a wall along a street, someone shot in my direction from very close by, I
dived to the ground and layed there motionless in the darkness, scared of turning on my flashlight. Then I heard footsteps of someone crossing the street slowly in my direction... fuuuuuu... it's too dark so all I see is this dark figure pointing his rifle at me against the brighter sky, I could see by his outline that he had a ghillie suit and NVG. Fuck this was so intense for me, the guy could just end my adventure of a bunch of hours right then and there if he wanted, just an incredible feeling my heart was on my throat. I begged repeatedly for him not to kill me over direct comm, he never said a thing. After a while of him staring at me he started getting anxious about a bunch of
zombies surrounding us and finally started pointing his rifle elsewhere, I take my flashlight out to get a better look at him because I feel like he doesn't want to kill me and I see him run half a block and just stop near an alley entrance looking at me, he wanted me
to follow him, so I did. This guy blasted about 25 zombies with his guns as we ran about 6 blocks, me holding the flashlight trying not to lose him into the darkness. Eventually we
got to what seemed was his own car, I think the vehicle was called Lada, we get in and we proceed to run over a million zombies as we fled the city. Eventually we come to a stop in the woods and he gets out and walks in front of the headlights of the car waiting for me to join him. I do so as I notice hes bleeding badly and doesn't seem to have any bandages. So I bandage him up as he gives me a couple of blood packs, then I proceed to give him a blood transfusion (?). He then hands me a gun, a bunch of ammo, a map and some other tools including a set of NV Goggles (a spare probably), does a salute and then speeds off in his car. I run deeper into the woods, go prone into the tall grass and log
off, thinking of returning to the city on daylight. Man, I love DayZ.

Great story. Welcome to the addiction.

So how much has the mod improved since 1.6 something?

I haven't played it for a while. Does it still take years to join a game? Is it laggy as hell? Is night still broken?

Encountered the first human player today. I still only had a hatchet but was able to amass quite some ammo and other supplies. He was chased by some walkers but we got rit of them by running through a building.

When we were standing outside again he wrote "I will not kill you" and proceeded to shoot me...

Edit: By the way, how is the chat working? Which channel do I need to use?

The graphical glitches have been a problem since the beginning. I doubt it will be fixed at all.

There were glitches from barbed wire. Those are actually fixed it seems.

What it is now are the static soldier corpses at places like NW airfield, Balota airfield, Berezhino military tents, Stary Sobor etc.

I'm sure they'll fix this ASAP. The game loses quite a bit of appeal for me when I can't have any fun at the high risk/reward spots. I'm using this hiatus to focus on downed helicopters and ghillie/camo. Found a camo in an apartment building last night.

Is there a tutorial online somewhere on how the inventory/backpack interaction between two players works?? I've already figured out after a good while how to manage my own stuff (terrible interface) but I'm clueless about what to do when I meet someone else and I'm supposed to give/receive something and this is something I can't learn by myself at my own slow pace. I'd like to know what to do the next time I meet someone so I don't annoy the person.

no, they got way worse after the latest version

I don't know if this was just me but I had my screen turn all black minus the sky. It had like a weird graininess to it. I also had like artifacting lines that made part of the screen a little darker but in strips going horizontally across my screen. That wasn't as distracting but I don't know if others are having these issues or not. Otherwise, performance has been just as good as ever.

Anyone else getting these types of glitches? I want to make sure my GPU isn't dying for petes sake! Other games don't flake out like this one with this latest DayZ patch though. It was still perfectly playable though but sometimes I have to face a certain direction for me to get rid of that dark glitch.

And no one helped me last night :/

Will be on later today as I work soon. I need blood badly.

This is absolutely amazing to read. The game looks janky and clunky as all out doors, but the descriptions in this thread keeps me coming back for more. I actually anticipate some of you guys stories. This is like some awesome Zombie fan fiction.

Just got done playing dayz while Wizard was live streaming. A hacker was spawning shit everywhere. But he was a cool guy. I was flying a heli around for awhile until I had lost control trying to get my cigerate lit(stupid me, cant just take your eyes off a heli mid turn).

Grabbed some pics.

As awesome as the hacking results turned out in your case, it's ultimately going to mess things up if mods aren't on the ball. The game is amazing enough without people hacking it up to hell.

That being said, it would be fun to mess around randomly and actually get a vehicle and be able to traverse all the recognized areas but with a nice car.

Nah, I've been playing with a group from a Dutch forum. Have been playing this almost every day. I just can't be bothered to get the beta working with steam.;)

Playing with gaf still?

Nah the eurogaffers were gone when I came back from Diablo 3. I've been playing with a rl friend since I started playing this again.

Eurogaffers, i am in a party of two (me and another guy), inviting anyone who wants to join us in game, we can be found on Gaf muble, linked in main page
On mumble were in DayZ Sub Ch 3 usually, im under the nick "Oren", and we play after 6PM GMT+2 on any server that will accept and love us.

Holy shit, had some tense moments today.

Was able to find a crossbow and a hunting knife but had trouble with space in my back pack. Anyway to increase that besides using tents as storage?

Later I saw two heavily equipped guys in a forest and oberved them for a while, when they moved out I decided to see whether they may have a camp there and they indeed had a tent there. Was tense as shit as I always feared they could be back any minute and they probably wouldn't be to happy about my presence so I quickly took an assault rifle and binoculars but therefore had to leave my crossbow, don't know whether that was actually a good trade. And no, didn't feal quilty at all, they had like a whole armory in that tent but sadly now food which I was in dire need. (btw wasn't the gaf server)

Later on I nearly starved to dead as I just couldn't find any food eventhough I got more confident with my new gear and looted a couple of towns. At 2800 blood I finaly found some sardines but I still pass out from time to time due to low blood. Any tips where I can find blood packs?

Btw I still need matches to cook meat I hunted using my hunting knife, right?

Yes, you need to kill an animal and gut it, then loot the meat using mouse wheel menu. Then you need wood (or the hatchet to get wood) and matches. With both in your inventory you can right click on the matches and make a fire pit which spawns on the ground. The use the mouse wheel to light it up and cook your meat.

Here you go.

Make sure you check how much space you have in your pack. It should show up above the inventory if you have your pack opened, and it'll be something like (0/8). If you pick up an item and put it in your backpack but don't actually have room for it, that item will disappear. Primary Weapons are 10 slots, secondary weapons are 5 slots. This also applies for giving items to players. If you put an item in someone's backpack and they don't actually have room for it, it will disappear.

If you're in a vehicle using the map menu (even with no map) will bring up options in the corner of the screen. Going to Units and then selecting yourself and then your Gear option will allow you to place items in the vehicle and take items from the vehicle while in motion. You can also bandage, use morphine, eat and drink using this menu.

To switch between a primary/secondary in your bag and a primary/secondary in your pack you have to open your backpack and then transfer your weapon in your backpack to your inventory. It'll switch the two weapons and their ammo. So if I have an M4A1 SD in my hands and an AS50 in my backpack, I'd want to select the AS50 and move it to my inventory. That would automatically move the M4A1 SD and as much ammo that would fit to my pack while moving my AS50 and as much ammo that would fit in my inventory. The same applies for secondaries.

To equip a hatchet or flashlight right click them on your toolbelt and select the option to wield it. Do the same and use the 'Return to Toolbelt' option to move it back. The flashlight is a secondary and the hatchet is a primary.

Every time I see your name I am obligated to ask if you are the G.Newell of revenge taking fame.

Yes, though ill point out i was the one that was betrayed multiple times so y'all deserved every bullet i sent your way.

Anyway played a bit last night on the GAF server and Helped some random dude in cherno with a blood transfusion and a weapon just before the server restart. Then had to run around searching every house for some canned food as i desperately needed some whilst attracting every zombie in town. Got fed up of em so used most of my ammo for my akm trying to clear out Cherno racking up 87 zed kills in 15 mins

Awesome.

Also. We need gaffers on the mumble server now-ish.

Seriously. I will never, ever forget this:

Nah the best moment was when i was above novy sabor, and i caught you guys interrogating some random dude. Was hilarious seeing you guys panic as he dropped dead as you where talking to him, then proceeded start dropping you guys with the help of my spotter

Haha I don't think I was present for that one. You sure ran a complex operation.

Been out of the loop for a while, disregarding any beta updates or whatever you guys do on GAF server, 1.7.2.4 is the newest release right?

Are ghillie suits pretty common? I spawned at Cherno for the first time, found a building I'd never seen before and got one right off the bat.

Anyone know why some of my controls just aren't working. Stuff like lean (Q & E) doesn't do anything the mouse wheel does nothing at all and my map is just a black screen. wtf?

I think I ran through 4 or 5 towns and a few out of the way barns for almost 2 hours and I could not find any food on GAF server. Plenty of drinks (sorry whoever I blew the head off of, I needed supplies and figured you had some :) ).

Once starvation set on I went crazy and killed handful of zombies. Thankfully ONE had a can of beans.

Hah, one of my victims is here on GAF. You sniped 3 or 4 other gaffers in a group I was with, just outside of a town. I followed you and killed both you and your spotter shortly afterwards.

I get the same thing, normally its only when im looking in the direction of tent city

I had the same issue, it came up strong at the airstrip of balota so I tinkered with the settings for half an hour and it went away after I turned video memory or memory (forgot how it was actually listed) to default.

Anyway, east down the airstrip behind the 2 industrial buildings there should be an military building that should have loot, but I can't get in and I cant find the loot part, anyone know where that is?

I was not there to witness that.

You were my first bandit incident. First time I killed an enemy player was you and your friends in the North West airfield. I still remember how hesitant the guys I was with were.

Loved the epic nade into the hanger.

I need help GAF! I'm in the forest between Novy and Stary Sobor. I had 900 blood after a gun fight, bleeding, unconsciousness, broken legs, and recovering. After eating some meat I'm now at 1700. I have a blood bag in my backpack and could use a transfusion. Anyone in that area able to help? Also, is there a period of time you have to wait before you can receive a transfusion after logging in with such low health?

After this newest patch, my game seems to hang at "Loading" for a good 5-6 minutes before I ultimately give up and force-shutdown the program. Usually only took 1-2 minutes to load. Damn this game, I just want to play you!
