DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Don't worry about it :P I'm still learning the ropes of the game, if I knew how to activate the chat in-game I'd have tried to say something :)
 
Is anybody getting a lot of graphical glitches right now on any server? There are brown/green planes (of color) going through the entire map. Objects outside of a certain distance in front of me don't load either.
 
Just logged on at nighttime, couldn't see a damn thing ! Is night darker ? tried to use my flashlight and all I accomplished was losing my only pistol so all I have left now is my assault rifle with two rounds. I'm gonna be needing them seeing as I'm closing in on the northern airfield xD God knows how I've survived so long.....

Abuse brightness and gamma settings. Lame, I know, but it puts you at a disadvantage if you don't.
 
I was just outside Dolina on the Gaf server when some invisible guy started talking to me.

I could hear his footsteps, and the grass was moving as he followed me.

He could see my player name and was telling me to stop so he could reward me...guessing this is a hack? I just aborted before he could do anything to me.

Yeah, it's a hack. This actually happenned to me a few days ago when I was meeting a friend near Msta.

Just a few hundred meters from the place where we agreed to meet, someone said "wait" in a woman's voice (it sounded computer generated though). "Behind you", (s)he said. I turned around and saw a sniper in a ghillie suit. I asked him what he wanted and he just typed "bye bye" and disappeared. I thought that was it but in a few moments I heard shots and my friend told me there was some guy shooting zombies around him. When I got to the place he gave us both a ton of supplies including NVG and a sniper rifle. He didn't put it on the ground or something, we just found ourselves wearing ghillie suits and having guns instead of hatchets (we both like walking around with hatchets, they are effective and quiet). "You're welcome", I saw in the chat log. I immediately started thinking about this automated ban system Rocket was talking about in the DayZ forums and whether I'll be banned for this :-).

But I went ahead and shot some zombies with the rifle, telling the friend that we should probably switch servers because this didn't feel like the kind of fun I am playing DayZ for. The hacker then spawned a helicopter out of thin air and started fooling around with it, then crashed and killed us all.

I was actually glad he did that :-)

Face the tent, you should see a picture of a gun with some squares below it. You kind of have to be looking in the right area on the tent for it to show. When you see that, hit G. You can also look at the tent when you see that icon, use the scroll wheel, and you should see either "Open Camping Tent" or "Gear".
 
Found a Ghillie Suit, decided to give it to my friend. To avoid any glitches, he drops everything, I believe including his coyote backpack. He puts on the suit, and puts on the backpack... and it has duplicated. I got a free coyote backpack. Works for me!

That, or click the arrow on the left part of the gear menu. Gear works kind of weird in this game, it always works like this though: There are always two entities involved in gear exchanges. If you aren't facing anything, and just hit G, then it's you and the ground you're standing on. Anything you move to the other side just drops. If you open your pack, then it's between you and your pack. If you're facing items, hit the G key, and then open your pack, then it's between your pack and the ground.
 
I might have to give up on this game...

Tonight alone I've ran into 4 different servers where admins are having a jolly good time raping other players. They come in all decked out ass rape you and your mother then make jokes about it over the global chat deal.

Up until the past few days everything has been a blast and intense, but the admins are starting to ruin it for me.

Any advice on servers that aren't ran by complete jackasses?

Play on the GAF server, we actually play fair. The hackers that come in don't unfortunately. I did managed to shut down a hacked-in helicopter earlier though, that was damn satisfying. I should tell that story.

I decided to give DayZ a try again, in the off chance I might actually be able to see when there were military bodies around. I logged back in on top of the Cherno granary roof. I climbed to the top level, and I heard something. It sounded like a helicopter. I looked toward the International Hotel, and sure enough, there was a helicopter flying there. I asked in Mumble if the helicopter in Cherno was friendly. It was not, and was also definitely hacked in, so I was given the OK to shoot at it. I took aim and shot at it multiple times with my M4, staying prone so hopefully it's occupants would not figure out where I was. The chopper landed on the roof of the hotel a few seconds later. I took out my binoculars and looked over at it's occupants as they got out. I could see one guy in a ghillie suit with an AS50 and another guy in civilian clothes with a patrol pack, and no weapon I could see. I aimed my gun where I knew they were, and kept shooting at both of their figures in the distance.

I looked in the binoculars again and saw blood running out of the one in civilian clothes. I had definitely hit him, and he was bleeding. The odd thing though, was that neither of them had figured out where I was. I kept shooting, suddenly seeing "xXxMasturbatorxXx" was killed. I looked on the roof, and the guy in the civvies was dead. My murder count had gone up by one too. Now all that was left was his ghillie suit friend. I took aim and kept shooting at him, but he went prone behind the red strip on top of the hotel where I couldn't hit him. I asked in Mumble which part of the helicopter I should aim for. They told me to aim for the rotors and tail of it. I took aim and shot the tail and rotors repeatedly. I occasionally saw ghillie suit guy get up and run around, so I tried to shoot him when he was up. Then he got in the chopper and started the engine. He lifted off, spun around, flipped over, dropped, and crashed on the ground below. There was a huge explosion and a lot of smoke in the air clouding my vision of the hotel. However it was okay, since now I knew ghillie suit guy was dead too.

Another GAFfer had spawned close to Cherno and was on his way. His plan was to come meet me on top of the roof. He decided to investigate the helicopter crash site first, since I had informed him of that while he was on the way. He got there and found ghillie suit guy's body, and told me of the loot on it. There was an AS50, GPS, Night Vision Goggles, Range Finder, and a whole slew of other nice stuff. Then he told me there was another player following him on his way to me, as well as a horde of zombies. Looking between the hotel and where I was was extremely difficult, as I was still getting the artifacting. I waited until they both got closer to the granary, and I could clearly see the GAFfer, the other player, and the horde of zombies. I took aim at the other player and shot him a few times. I may have hit him once, but I lost sight of both of them because they got close to the building. I would finish this on the ladder. They were both on the ladder now. The GAFfer would be reaching top, followed by the other player, whom I was told had a hatchet. He was probably after that AS50 most likely. I waited til the other player got to the top, and attempted to say over Direct Comm (although this failed, since I had forgot to change it off of Group Channel) "You made a mistake, buddy!", as I shot him repeatedly in the face with my M4. He was dead. The name that popped up on the screen? "xXxMasturbatorxXx" It was the same guy I had killed on the roof a few minutes prior to this.
 
Got killed by ItAintEasy today. When I asked why he said "Remember that time you killed my friend".

Some people hold grudges. Others take vengeance. Some, well, they make things up.
 
my 10 day old guy loaded with rare items got his shit pushed in while picking up some SD ammo in a military shower at night.

didnt even hear the guy coming which is odd since you have to jump over a bench to get in the building. two bullets and it was over. :(
 
I love all the points from that interview with Rocket about future additions, but there is still no word about what I personally would like to see, and that is the game using the Arma 3 engine.
I really hope the standalone version upgrade to that engine and not stick with this almost 3 year old engine. Just the lighting in the Arma 3 engine would make the immersion in DayZ so much better, not to mention much better animations and physics.
 
Man I love this game!

So having decided to respawn (i.e. eaten alive by zombies after getting a broken leg) I started my new life near Electro.

I checked out same factory place (has a massive metal barn type place surrounded by metal fencing and has a railway track) and managed to attract a zombie but lose it (thankfully) via running around the fencing and losing it's sight! Anyway...I learn my lesson and go back to crawling everywhere lol.

I find lots of drinks and ammo but no gun...however I find an axe as a zombie glithches through the wall and makes his way towards me - I finally get to hack one to death (having finally figured out you need to reload an axe!) lol!

Anyway, I (slowly) make my way towards the hospital (under guidance of my son) when I suddenly spot a player running into the hospital (off in the distance) - luckily I'm on mumble and I ask if any gafers are near the hospital - it appears someone is - I ask him not to shoot the girl with an axe as he's a noob! lol Anyway, seems the player (sorry - I'm useless and don't know who you are - please feel free to let me know who it was!) needs a blood transfusion - so I help out and grab a load of supplies (hurray - no need to worry too much about accidental broken bones!) and we head out...he shows me where there's a gun so I'm now fully kitted out...he then spots another player heading to the store - an non-friendly who he promptly disposes of and we do a spot of shopping.

Inside the store I get a bigger backpack, food & more drink...I'm now well and truely ready for my journey! We hear there is to be a neogaf bus come pick us up so we head to a hill (apparently a popular sniping point) and wait out...from there we are met by a few other players - I have to pop out of the room for a couple of mins - when I come back I'm on my own bar someone hiding in a sniping position who isn't very talkative - I've no idea where everyone went and it was time for me to log off (2 hours flew by again!)

Thanks to everyone for their kind help and adopting my son who is apparently now kitted out like Rambo lol

He already has a version of dayz running on Arma III, from what I've read. If/when it goes standalone it'll be on Arma III.

I think its almost certain they will be using the arma 3 version for the standalone game, and build from there, adding everything they need.
 
Just played some DayZ on the Lingor map. It was freaking awesome! Now if only there were some US/UK servers so battleye wouldnt freak out all the time.

How rare is Stanag SD ammo?! I lucked out and found a gun with 1 clip, however it seems hard as balls to come by.

I always find it when I never need it. Then I don't take it/drop it, and then I find an amazing gun that takes it 5 minutes later, and then can't find any more Stanag SD ammo.
 
If it's night time and I throw a road flare or chemlight a good distance away from me, will zombies swarm it and ignore me? If I sneak around, avoiding the light, and it burns out, will zombies auto swarm me or do they go shambling on their way?

from what I understand after they get distracted they need to be aggro'd again, so if you don't pull any aggro you should be ok
