DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

If it's night time and I throw a road flare or chemlight a good distance away from me, will zombies swarm it and ignore me? If I sneak around, avoiding the light, and it burns out, will zombies auto swarm me or do they go shambling on their way?

As far as I know zombies are not attracted to chemlights, and are only attracted to flares. When you throw one the zombies won't sprint to the flare or anything dramatic like that, they will just amble around it and maintain the same pace, walking, hopping, or crawling. When the flare dies they just amble away.

They are attracted to chem lights but the view range for chem lights is very small. Blue the smallest, green the largest I believe.

Machinima was livestreaming DayZ while interviewing Rocket and got thunderdome'd twice during the interview. Talk about bad press.

Followed this video. The problem is since they are RU servers battleye is a bitch and stops working and boots you from the game(me and a friend could only play for about 30mins if that). We need some US servers dang it!

Looks cool. I really wish Rocket would give us an official menu option to select another map to play on.

Is there a video link to this? What was Rockets reaction?

Had the craziest 24 hours in DayZ.
Lost all my stuff then got it back twice, crashed two choppers, had my camp raided and assaulted.

The weirdest thing of it all though was today when I was on the way back from picking up a friend on the coast. We got ambushed and killed in Lopatino and I lost my AS50, CCO SD, Mk 48 and some more random crap. I respawn in Kamenka and start running for Lopatino. When I get there I hear gunshots so I sneak around for a while. I get to my body and next to it I find my murderer, lying on the ground, unconscious. I didn't have a weapon, but he hadn't hid my body so I grabbed an axe and started whaling on him. For some reason he didn't have the ammo on him, but I still got the gun back and a bit later I found his car in which he stashed my CCO SD. It's crazy how quickly your fortunes can reverse in this game.

Is anyone else only able to connect to servers via Six Launcher?

When I try to Remote connect to any server I get the, "You cannot modify/edit ..." something like that message.

But then I open Six Launcher and I can join no problem.

On the subject of callouts, I think my favorite moment of this game so far is when I shot an unarmed Hylian7 in the legs with my Lee Enfield and the 10 zombies who were chasing me went after him instead as he lay disabled on the ground. I think you might have had camo on at the time too :p

...When was this?

Wait a minute, I remember one life where I had a camo suit and I got shot, I think it was in Elektro. That was you?!

It was a few days ago and yeah in Elektro, somewhere near the firestation. I'm not sure if you even knew I was around but I did I have a horde chasing me.

Experienced players, what is your preferred route into the NW airfield? I've made it to the north for the first time, currently in Lopatino with some solid gear. I've heard the airfield usually has a couple snipers, so I was curious about how to make it in as safe as possible.

You could just go to a low population server. Not a guarantee but snipers are probably less willing to hang around the airfield if no one is likely to show up.

Around it, avoiding it completely. Then you head up north to look for tents.

I've tried several ways, but entering from the south hasn't gotten me killed right off the bat yet. The north just doesn't have the same type of cover as the south, and as most people are coming in from the south due to sheer laziness this means that you've probably got a better chance of getting your shit wrecked by snipers if you come in from the north, as most people will probably be set up in the south.

I think.

Typically I come in from the north-east side. I find it offers more cover and better for scoping out the area. But you can walk around the outer wall and it has holes in it all around it. So if you think someone might be in there you can get the drop on them buy coming up from behind.

Also, I suggest everyone that can, try out that Lingor map. Almost all of the buildings you can enter and its a nice lush jungle. Plus it wont mess up your normal Dayz character. just dont get stuck on any doorways

It's so tempting though...

Quick question about tents. If you set one up, does it follow you from server to server, or does it stay on the server it was pitched on?

Cool, thanks.

Hacking is easily the biggest problem facing this game right now. I hope taking care of it is their biggest priority atm.
I just wish there were ways for admins to detect and ban hackers. I'd rather have that over a really intrusive anti-cheat system that can have false positives (take say, BFBC2 for instance) while still potentially allowing hackers through.

Agreed. Even if the hackers can get keys super easy. It still slows them down. Anything is better than this anti-cheat system that gets bypassed every other minute.

The problem with this scenario is that admins would only be able to do local bans. hackers would still be able to server hop and there would be a continual stream of unbanned hackers joining your server just as fast (faster) than your admins could ban them.

On top of that it appears it is possible to fake guid so you don't have a unique identifier to use for banning in the first place.

Honestly, looking for tents is much more rewarding than airfields and military loot.

Not really, at least not if you consider excitement part of the reward. There comes a point in time where you're raiding NWAF even when you are already fully geared. Not because you're looking for gear but because you're looking for action.

That has more to do with play style rather than where to get loot. I don't think he is hitting NWA with an axe just to look for action :)

Got to 620 zombie kills.

Been alive for over a week.

Screwing around on a server repairing the V3S Civilian.

Hacker kills everyone on the server instantly.

Oh well.

Well, after only playing the game for about a day, I've now experienced the unique depression that comes with getting a crap-load of decent stuff for the first time, and then only losing it all to a couple of zeds chasing me down. Here's my story:

Having no idea about the layout of the map (Kinda newby), I started at the coastline near Skalisty Island, and headed north along the coast (Under cover, of course) until I hit a big city or town. My destination was either Elektro or Cherno, which just goes to show how little I know of the area.

Anyways, I reached a town, don't know which, and started looking in buildings. Found myself a makarov and a basic sniper rifle, and continued north. Reached Berezino and started looking in a group of three apartment buildings. I had hit the paydirt: I found a map, compass, all the crap I needed to cook meat, plenty of food, drink, a new backpack and a refillable canteen. Splendid. What I didn't find though, was a better weapon. So with my new map and compass, I hatched a plan:

I was going to go to the deer stand west of the southern point of Berezino and get myself a better weapon, then make my way to Cherno and do... something. But I hit a snag: A guide I had found in the internet said that deer stands only had two of three zeds around them, no match for my rifle. However, this particular one was A) A foetid son-of-a-bitch to find, and B) surrounded by no less than ten military zombies. I didn't know the second fact until shooting a zed from what I thought was a safe, long distance.

Essentially what transpired after firing that shot was a lot of running, shooting, running out of ammo, self-crapping, tears, and prayers to any deity that may be listening at that time. So with maybe four zeds in tow I thought sod it and ran to the deer stand, hoping to eliminate my pursuers with whatever hardware I found. I was not disappointed. I found an M14 with ammo, and an AK47 without. Dispatched two of my assailants with the M14, ran out of ammo (I kinda panicked) and got severely mauled by the third to climb the ladder, which I finished off with my hatchet. With about 4000 blood remaining, I patched myself up and thanked god that the fourth zed was obviously reluctant to climb that ladder. Yet another of my famous plans was forming.

The idea was to shake this last zombie by climbing a steep hill (Which has saved my life many times) and then get to the hospital in Berezino to find some aid. So I jumped down, started running, discovered that there were two zeds following me, got hit whilst running into a rock when I was looking behind me (First law of any movie pursuit: Looking at your assailants during a chase guarantees an inconvenient rock placing itself in your path/underfoot), fell unconscious, and emitted a real-life faint, girly "Nooooo" which caused my wife to give me a funny look.

Then I respawned and swam into the sea in shame.

Edit: whoops, sorry for the novel :P

2 hours of game (swimming) and i was up and running. Easy to find now when they are actually back, no extra crew needed. I was bit worried flying over to coast with just fumes but arma piloting did payoff.
Still leaks, had no room to haul all those windows but got fuelcans for next session.

So trying to survive at all is basically pointless now. I was warped and killed by hackers three different times on three different servers. Really surprised by how often this is happening. Pretty much game breaking for a survival game. Damn shame.

Hope the GAF server is back up soon.

Found a jeep so went exploring, then hit an area that was throwing graphic artifacts all over the place. Seemingly it is a known area as there was a group of people camping (I guess with their backs to the area that causes the spikes and glitches) waiting for me to crash the jeep into their tank spikes :(

Lost the Jeep.

I'm not even trying to find choppers anymore. It's too easy for hackers to get to them repair them or spawn them.

Don't hang around arifields, you're just gonna get shot and the loot isn't even that good.
The good loot spawns in the barracks, but it' such a low probability you're just gonna find AKs an M4s.
Look for heli crash sites instead, they're almost guarantueed to have awesome weapons

Here's a map of in which areas they spawn

(note that it doesn't show exact locations of crash sites, only in which areas they may spawn)

They can spawn anywhere in an non-forest area within 4km (I think) of the center of the map.

I think the maps are just a waste of time when it comes to downed helicopters. Just check open fields when you're traveling or if you're specifically searching for copters check the areas in the triangle between Vybor, Rogovo, and Novy Sobor.

So it seems I was mistaken. There are UK servers for Lingor Dayz. I was using outdated files. Only got to play at night so far...but good god does it feel different, yet the same. I wish the gaf server was running this, hint hint, wink wink.
