I quit the mumble group a couple of days ago and don't intend to go back partly due to reasons and personalities similar to what I described above. I do miss the half-a-dozen or so good guys, but some of them don't play much (or at all) anymore anyways so it's not like I'm losing much. It's also a good time to take a break from this game since I think after 900+ hours I've done enough "testing" to last for a while :-)

Wow, seems drama from DayZ has entered the real world.

It seems from reading the posts here that this situation could have been handled a lot better by some of the supposed mature players, but reading a number of posts on here it seems they acted like bigger kids than Michael.


I have Arma 2 (bought it on the Steam sale) and have tinkered around enough to know how to get DayZ patched and running, I have just finished an assignment and wanted to jump on the Gaf server and mumble (so I don't get killed for nothing) ........ Seems a click has already formed, think I should skip it.

Well as far as drama goes, it really was the only proper "incident" the gaf mumble group has had. Most of the other time you either have tons of fun or you just join a channel with the people you like and ignore the rest :-)

In fact, some of us might say that your chances of dying go up after you join any of the missions we used to do on mumble. Just the other day one of the new players tried to administer a blood transfusion and shot the dude instead. A minute later I dispose of a hacked grenade someone had found and I end up killing me and a fellow gaffer.

I should have just said who that was. Now I cant even remember... theres like 2 names that pop into my head for some reason :P.

Also stopped playing dayz a few days hoping 1.7.5 would fix these damned graphic glitches.. still waiting. Guess Im lucky to miss some of this mumble drama though.

Yea I kinda wish for the (g)olden days of DayZ when patches weren't tested in private for weeks before release. A bug that causes people to avoid arguably the best locations in the map should be fixed in a day or two, alpha or not. Also item duping is so fucking ridiculously easy that you will most likely do it by accident or if not, at least you'll benefit from it passively by looting replenishing tents. I fucking love DayZ, but I really hope The War Z's three years of development owns DayZ so hard we actually end up getting a good game out of DayZ in a year or two and a good game from The War Z in the meantime.
 
Anyone on the GAF server or specifically our new base? About to log in but want to make sure I'm known to be there or if anyone is there, they're with us or not because I'll shoot on site otherwise.

I ask here because no one is on mumble :\

edit: Camp is somewhat fine. Most tents are pretty empty (not surprising), two are however flattened, and there are LOTS of hidden dead bodies there. I'm guessing from the sniper yesterday - the bodies.

That was me. If it's any consolation, I immediately got some bandages and then bandaged AND transfused him. The moral of this story? Tell someone you're about to transfuse/bandage/morphine them, so they don't walk away and then you click after the medic options have disappeared and instead shoot them.

Yeah, I used the scroll wheel to bring up the selection menu. But then you still have to left click to use the option highlighted, do you not?

EDIT: Why is it night on the GAF server? Should it not be like 8 or 9am?

I wish I could be excited for The War Z but when I read quests and stuff I just didnt care anymore. Something about how Dayz dosnt have a story or any actual goal is what I love about it. I just do what I want or what I need to survive. I love how people are playing it and making their own stories and such. Matter a fact its crazy how the stories coming out of Dayz are far more interesting than any videogame based story out in a while.. theres actual tension and random events.

All I can do is hope that Dayz goes stand alone in the not so distant future and bugs and cheating are handled better. As long as its a mod these will continue to be an issue.. atleast in my opinion.

Still though.. even with the current jankyness its still fun.

Quests and shit don't bother me that much, but yeah The War Z still has some MMORPG bullshit in there that I hope they'd get away with. I'm super excited about it though since the better it is, the better DayZ will get. It's just a shame that an actual 1.0 version of DayZ as a mod or standalone is so far off in the future :-( And at some point they will have to stop updating the Arma II mod it is now and just focus on the actual game. If there's nothing of similar difficulty and scope by then, I will be a sad bandit.
 
Just found a helo crash site with two FN-FALs, one of which is packing a NV scope. Holla! That gels nicely with the silenced PP-19 I have... I love helping people out, but it's dangerous when everyone would rather shoot on sight. I'm also glad that the side channel has been removed. Feels so... desolate out there.

Who the hell is Tiffany? I'm more of an Ashley. But DayZ isn't much fun when you're using a replacement desktop and even if a zombie is stationary in front of you the FPS is so bad you can't even shoot them. :(
 
so is night in arma 2 supposed to be pitchblack? I can see stars in the sky above me but can't see the ground at all. Also flashlight is L right? because I kept pressing that and it wouldn't turn it on.
 
ROFL! I entered the supermarket at polana via the back and 2 guys where sitting in the corner, one in standard outfit and the other in ghillie suit, I was thirsty and my food was flashing, so I HAD to enter the store. I also knew that if I would simply enter they would gun me down. so I took my winchester and took shot at the guy with standard outfit, shot him in the head, instantly dead. The dude in the Ghillie suit I shot him in the chest. I saw him lying on the ground and suddenly he disappeared. I ran to a corner (I blasted an ak I found of the other guy and attracted a massive stream of infected, I took aim and continues pumpung lead into the steady stream, and plop! there was ghillie suit man who reappeared right where I was firing and I killed him) I took a look what he had:
Coyote backpack

M4A1 CCO SD
6 STANAG mags, 3 STANAG SD mags
matches, map, gps, compas, watch, toolbox, hunting knife and binoculars
bloodbag, morphine, epi-pen and a bunch of soda's.

There was also a L85A2 AWS, but since I didnt had the STANAG rounds at that time it was useless to me to fend of the zombies. only afterwards when I ran with the m4A1 up the hill that I thought to go back to pick it up. but daylight was already there and I was afraid that there where other guys around.
 
Hey guys, I just started playing this the other day. I'll be hopping on the GAF server today, as long as it hasn't changed from what is in the OP. Is there any way of communicating with you guys easily without a headset?

Remove it from toolbelt to equip it as a weapon. Then press L.

Also, try and up the Gamma, Brightness and HDR.

Progress report on the story and videos from August 3: I've got the video of the car ride with the stranger and truck chase in the V3S uploading right now. Hopefully it should be done in a few hours.

Michael is a nice kid, he helped me build a base, but he really shouldn't be hanging out with GAF. Some real scumbags around here. Some nice people on here too but better to just play it safe when it comes to children.

I agree. Michael seemed like a nice enough kid when he was on from the little bit I heard of the chat on mumble. I just think in general it's never a good idea to have kids interacting with adults via chat or whatever on the net. Hopefully he can find some players his age he can chat/play with in game. :)

PS. Even though I said it, I kinda think actually Wizard is older than 17. 18 and 21 come to mind One or the other.

PPS. Also to Wizard's defense, he originally had written an open letter to Michael's dad to post here on GAF, but we told him not to do it openly like that since it really shouldn't be anyone's business and could be humiliating if it started some kind of drama over here. Perhaps a PM could have solved a lot of problems :-)
 
So I just installed day z and I have no idea what I am doing. How do I open my inventory? Where can i find a gun? I spent 20 minutes swimming to an island with a lighthouse but there was nothing on the island...

Press 'G' to open your inventory. Guns can be found in barns, military tents, deer stands, barracks, hangars, fire houses, schools, super markets and some residential buildings. Nothing is ever on the islands other than occasionally a helicopter can spawn there.

Press "F" to cicle between the weapon and the throwable items (you can see what are you going to use in the upper right corner).

Hit "F" to cycle through your options. Watch the top upper right side to see what you have currently selected. Keep hitting "F" until you stop at the gun, then hit your "fire" button to equip that piece of equipment.

When the hacker hit our current base with bear traps, I took the boat, hid it, saved it, and logged out next to it. Hopefully it's still three, because it's going to be a looooooong swim if it's not.

DayZ is pretty much broken right now and can't be played as a true survival game. Sucks. Seems like it's going to be stuck like this until the full retail hits. Not even sure if the retail version will be able to hold the hackers back. Fingers crossed.

So to the guys wanting a more mature tone in Mumble... what do you think about setting up another chat group, possibly on a different chat service if needed? Maybe Ventrilo or something? There are quite a few of you that I've had a lot of fun playing with and would like to continue to do so without out all this GAF drama nonsense.

That's pretty much the way everyone starts their game. Just keep playing and in a day or two you'll get the hang of it. In a couple of weeks you'll play like a pro.
 
I know Rocket said that he for sure wants to do a standalone game, but is he going to work on both that and the mod at the same time or is he going to pass the mod off to someone else while he works on the game or what? I guess he could quit updating the mod while he works on the game but I could see the community not liking that too much. Has he said or is it unsure right now?

He's mentioned that setting things up for the full retail version has been taking time away from recent Mod updates. He also mentioned that once the full retail hits he will no longer update the mod, it will remain free though. His goal it to create a really poished DayZ game that offers a ton of content at a reasonable price. I hope he pulls it off.
