DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Ran into some hacker just now in Cherno. Took a full clip from an AK at point blank range and didn't die.

Pathetic, and he still couldn't manage to kill me even with invincibility.

Ran away and bandaged up before disconnecting. 3K blood. Wonderful.

If the server doesn't mention periodic reboots in its MOTD it is probably a server that could take a very long time to load in.

Got my first sniper rifle! m107. Trying to figure out how the range works (have a rough idea) though I don't know what zoom I should be on whilst doing this. I thought I had to be zoomed all the way in, but not sure if this means holding right-click or not.

He's mentioned that setting things up for the full retail version has been taking time away from recent Mod updates. He also mentioned that once the full retail hits he will no longer update the mod, it will remain free though. His goal it to create a really poished DayZ game that offers a ton of content at a reasonable price. I hope he pulls it off.

That sounds good to me. I think that as soon as the retail version were to hit the alpha stage and he puts it up for sale using the "Minecraft model," it would be a huge success. He just needs to get the basic things going, get people to start buying that, and update like crazy. If it ends up happening something like that, that'd be really awesome. It would definitely be worth it for him to put the work in to it.

All you need to know is the distance to your target and then you zero the scope to that distance. Holding right click makes you zoom in all the way yes..

So... did anyone else suddenly get an AS50, ghillie suit, M4A1 CCO SD, range finder, night vision, and other such stuff? My friends and I were on a hill and suddenly we all got the same gear. We changed server, but found that people on that sever were the same. What on earth?

hackers, obviously. The hacker giveth and the hacker taketh away. Perhaps this is a sign that they're getting bored of simply killing everybody else on the server at once.

Now instead of Thunderdome we get The Hunger Games. Cherno Market is the cornucopia and the only place left on the server to get food. What would you do for a dew?

I had my first run in with another player today. I was looking for a gun in some big town while trying to avoid zomboes, and I came upon a room with 3 dead guys, who had nothing on them. After exploring the building and finding nothing, I went back to the bodies and was shot to death from behind. :(

Tonight I'll return after work and try and get in a squad with some of you guys.

Meh, beats having some bastard spawn behind you and taking that stuff after you've earned it the hard way...

Sure, but on every single server?

Pretty much. There are some non-hive servers that require an application process to get onto where you might be safe from the hacker scourge.

They're going to kill the mod dead at this rate. This isn't the type of game where you shrug off a death and respawn when you get killed by a cheater. You get an aimbotter in your typical FPS you just shrug and join another server. Spend a few days getting your favorite gear set together and then some dickhead runs a script and flushes all your efforts down the drain. Knowing that it could happen again, at any time? Well what is the point?

Dying by gameplay is a challenge, dying by hacker is incentive to play something else.

So I found my tent flattened in some remote location when I logged in an hour or so ago. Definitely shitty, but I guess it could happen. I was SE of Vybor all by my lonesome and lying down in a bush, so I alt tabbed into a browser and began to look up how a tent could get flattened. A few minutes goes by and suddenly I heard voices coming from day Z. I alt tabbed back over to find myself in the middle of a group of players and everyone was talking at once. There was a large crowd of players, at least 20, and people were talking and shooting each other. I didn't understand what was going on, but I suspected foul play. I aborted the game as quickly as I could and found a different server. When I logged in my legs were broken and I was in Otmel, of all places. I figure some hacker teleported everyone on the server and just tried to schwack them all. Thankfully I had some morphine on me and patched myself up. I chalked up a partial victory to the hacker scourge and resumed play. I wasn't going to let them ruin my Day Z.

I journeyed north to Castle Rog and cleared it out. It was devoid of players and anything worth while, so I took a defensive crouch and did a map study. As soon as I pulled out my map I heard silenced weaponfire and took rounds. Someone shot me twice and I took off running S patterns. I clicked on coms and yelled at them to stop shooting, but they didn't respond and continued to fire. I took rounds and continued to evade, trying desperately to escape the maniac. I watched tree trunks around me pop with bullet decals and the dirt around my feet explode with missed ordinance. I thought I was going to escape until I unceremoniously passed out from blood loss and face planted into the hill side. I wasn't bleeding, but my blood count was at 500 health. I waited for my character to stand up but I didn't think I would make it. After a brief delay I began to climb back to my feet, but it was for naught. As I was pulling out my pp-19, an explosion rocked the area and knocked two trees down. I died instantly and sat back in stunned disbelief. I escaped to the score screen and when I got there I could hear voices. Someone was scolding another player for using a silenced grenade launcher and told him to leave the server. I don't really know how I could hear this, but I assumed that it meant the guy was cheating. I didn't make another character and I don't think I will.

Who's playing the Lingor map? I guess there won't be as many hackers there... I have a few questions:
- Does it mess with your Dayz character in any way?
- How hard is for a group to get together? Do you get a city name like in Cherno?
- Is everything else like Dayz? Like items, vehicles, etc?

I already DLed it and I'm about to install it. Thanks in advance!

First of, i just want to point out that i agree that he or any other player of that age. Not specifically because of his age (its just a number, all people at any age are different), but because of how it afflicts the other players on mumble. Clearly the attitude changed for the worse and people were uncomfortable and/or cruel him. If Neogaf truly is an 18+ community like some people on mumble said it's not even a discussion really.

However, how these so called "mature adults" handled the situation was laughable and shocking. Insulting and harassing him until he leaves instead of just asking/telling/explaining/banning (depending on his action) is just puzzling to me.

Ultimately the father, then "mature adults" and last Michael is to blame. He did nothing worse than anyone else have already done. I dare say Michaels so called "childish actions" are mature compared to stuntmans voice clips, aj's teamkilling and mrwizard base revealing on the stream.

Just want to give my two cents on this nonsense. Fist of all this was all mumble stuff and should not have made it to the forums.

With that being said AJ is a cool dude and if you call what I do "team killing" then so be it but don't blame it on someone else.

Never said I was on anyone's "team" I like joining you guys from time to time to do random stuff but it adds a sense of tension to the game to hunt people now and again. Of course feel free to come kill me or ask in mumble where I am because I'll tell you and welcome the challenge.

Well, I followed the guide in the op and this:
http://kodabar.blogspot.ca/2012/05/how-to-install-dayz-with-arma-2-free.html

But when I launch DayZ it says I'm missing 'CA Dubbing Counterattack'

I hit "OK" then it launches up fine, then another error, something about 'cfgvehicles/Citizen1.scope'

I can't join any of the DayZ servers, and I'm thinking it is because of these errors. What do?

If you're using Arma 2 Free and you're NOT using Steam, this might help:
For a couple of friends:

HOW I INSTALLED ARMA 2 FREE - OPERATION ARROWHEAD - DAYZ

1) Downloaded Arma 2 Free, installed it(Bohemia interactive/Arma2), ran it once, no issues.
2) Downloaded OA from Amazon, installed it(Bohemia interactive/OA), ran it once, no issues.
3) Downloaded Arma 2 OA 1.6 patch, installed it, ran it once, no issues.
4) Downloaded worrom.com app, installed, had to correct OA file path, clicked on "Force Update", finished downloading dayz by itself.
5) Created a shortcut for BohemiaInteractive/OA/arma2oa.exe, added " -mod=@dayz -nosplash"(no quotes) after the quotes in the target field of the shortcut properties.
6) Ran it once, got many errors, googled them, copied Addons folder from the Arma2Free folder into the OA folder.
7) ???
8) PROFIT!!!

HOW I UPDATED TO ARMA 2 BETA AND DAYZ 1.7

A) Downloaded the latest patch, installed it, no issues at all. It created a "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" shortcut.
B) Run the worrom.com app again, this time clicking on "Check Update". It downloaded and installed 1.7 by itself.
C) Edited the OA Beta Patch shortcut, added " -mod=expansion;expansion\beta;expansion\beta\expansion;@DayZ -skipIntro "(no quotes) at the end before the already existing " -nosplash"(no quotes).
D) ???
E) PROFIT!!!

HOW I RECENTLY INSTALLED ARMA 2 FREE - OPERATION ARROWHEAD - BETA PATCH - DAYZ 1.7 FOR A FRIEND

Just did the following steps from above:
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, A, C, D, E

I'm not going to make excuses largely because I don't really care but I find it extremely hilarious that many of you who messaged me on steam or posted in my livestream chat that I should be the one to give the kid bullshit to make him leave, haven't come to my defense.

But hey, I enjoy taking shit so feel free to continually put it on me. And that "How about you go kill yourself in your moms basement. You immature bitch." message I got on steam was classy stuff.

I'll leave it at that simply because I'm not going to one to air out laundry. Maybe some of you will "be a big boy" and out yourselves personally.

Wizzard

It's childish as shit to scream at a young kid. The irony is that if he doesn't want minors on the voice chat, he'd have to leave it himself too.

Actually, I'm a legal adult. Maybe not a pristine example of maturity but I just as mature as most of you in mumble. I certainly didn't hear many objections to me taking the heat from Trapfire and Oisin for killing Micheal, then giving Micheal shit to everyone's laughter.

PPS. Also to Wizard's defense, he originally had written an open letter to Michael's dad to post here on GAF, but we told him not to do it openly like that since it really shouldn't be anyone's business and could be humiliating if it started some kind of drama over here. Perhaps a PM could have solved a lot of problems :-)

Yes, I had written a paragraph simply outlying that I didn't feel it was appropriate for him to be in mumble. You guys told me not to do that, some because mumble shit should stay in mumble and others to keep the joke going. I don't allow my sister around the same age to watch my live streams simply because it's not appropriate content. I should have done it anyway like Ultrazilla has done. Thanks for that.

And to goonergaz, I would have sent you a PM but nobody was clear about who Micheal's father was. I asked, many times simply because I've always wanted to talk with you directly, it didn't happen and we decided to, even if it wasn't the best idea, fuck with him. I'm not going to apologize because what would be the point, just know that I was playing it up and said multiple times that I had NO ISSUE with Micheal as a person and if anyone wishes to refute that claim, I'm sure I have the audio.

Wizard talks too much.

Then why haven't you said anything about it? Then again, you really haven't been around but I'm sure you'll be quick to mention that's my fault right?

If only the lot of you could be like ItAin'tEasy and speak up when you have issues instead of saving it all up until someone else makes the first move.

I'm done with this. Clearly my presence and brand of sarcastic, dudebro-inspired humor is an issue and after tonight I wont frequent the mumble channel and wont venture too far out of WrassleGAF. If you want to hear more of the sounds of my late night "experiences" hit me up on steam and for a little extra [read: money] you can watch a little belt action.

I'll still be doing the DayZ Charity streams too. They take place the second weekend of every month and will go for 24 hours or longer.

And for the record, because I hate misinformation, I live with my grandmother to take care of her because she's disabled and our family can't afford proper care. But keep those mothers basement comments coming!

Followed this:

IDK what makes this occur, or EXACTLY what it is that fixes it, but I also had this problem before.
This is how I did it.
1. Right-Click on ArmA 2, reinstall BattleEye
2. Launch ArmA 2
3. Launch ArmA 2: OA
4. Launch Combined Operations
5. Update your DayZ files (Worrom, Sixupdater)
6. Repeat steps 2-4
7. ???
8. Possible profit
http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/30156-dayz-ca-dubbing-counterattack/

And the errors disappeared. Will try joining a server now.

EDIT:
Yay! I made it in a game!

As bad as I've been getting reamed by hackers I keep coming back for more. Can't make myself play anything else as long as DayZ is installed.

There is something about making your own quests in an open world game like this that keeps it interesting.

Respawn outside Elektro after hacker death #4

Run through Elektro, finding the necessities, get cornered like a noob, have to run halfway across the city until finding a good spot to stop and bandage.

Find an mp5sd in the lower fire station, sweeet, only one clip, booooo.

Hit the church, the office building, and the store, loot a few dead bodies. Find the necessities, 2 water bottles, a hatchet, matches, watch, and a skinning knife. No pack, doh, no camo/ghillie, doh, no compass, doh, no map, doh.

Eat everything in sight to recover some of my blood.

Run around a corner into another player, he starts blasting with a pistol, I unload the remainder of the mp5sd into him, he is still alive! The iron sites on the mp5sd are horrible, if I'd had time I could have gone for a headshot, but not when dancing around in melee range.

He is out of ammo, switched to crowbar, I'm out of ammo I run around a corner, drop my mp5sd and pull out the hatchet.

He has run away, but the trail of zombies give away his destination, the church.

I use 3d person view to check out both sides of the entrance, see him moving around in the corner on the left. he found some more pistol ammo. I run in at him, yelling in direct chat, get behind him, he's blasting, seems to miss every shot, he shouldn't have laid down on the floor like that. Two swings of the hatchet and I've got my first murder. No fair! He fired first!

Hit the hospital, the glass isn't broken, throw some cans and bottles at it, still not broken, empty a makarov clip in it, still not broken, give up. Oh wait, check the back for that one box, boo, only blood bags.

Run back to the fire station, grab an xm1014, go back to hospital, kill zombie with shottie, breaking all the glass in the process, no morphine or antibiotics at all, damn it to hell. Decide it is time to get out of town, we've made a lot of noise and night is starting to fall, good time to travel.

Decide to head north to Berezhino and after that search for some camps in the NE before hitting NE airstrip.

Start thinking about the helicopter spawn, realize that if anybody swam over there to look for it they'd probably want to stash their gear in a tent or vehicle so they wouldn't lose it while swimming.

Head towards the bit of forest opposite Skalisty Island, kill a pig on the way, butcher it, make a fire, cook it, eat all but one piece to recover most of my lost blood.

Scout the forest, oh wait, is that a tent? YES!

Run up to it, see the nice icon that means there is probably something useful in there.

Oh my, it is Christmas in Chernarus. What did Santa bring me?

M16A4 Acog - my favorite AR in DayZ
GPS
NVGs
Rangefinders
Plenty of Stanag/Stanag SD ammo
More steaks
Some morphine

Set my waypoint for Berezhino and head out. Decide it is time to take a break and logout hoping I've had my new gear long enough for the Hive to save it.

Later on I'll hit up Berezhino for ghillie, compass, map, and backpack, then head north.

I couldn't have really predicted any of that. I mean sure, I knew my planned route but had no idea what I'd run into on the way, that I'd chop somebody into pieces with an axe, that I'd dine on roast boar, that I'd loot a tent full of just what I need by the light of the full moon, etc., that I'd be almost fully geared up before even making it to Berezhino.

I think that is what keeps me playing, it is a new adventure every time.

I don't understand. I have no way to deal with zombie?

They won't be able to catch you as long as you're standing and running. You can lose them pretty easy by abusing their line of sight and the fact that they can't run, only walk, through buildings. So:

1. If in town, run through buildings with at least two entrances.
2. If out of town, weave through bushes and trees and try to break their line of sight with you.

It's easier to avoid zombies at night due to decreased visibility. Also, it's better to shoot them in the head with a pistol than it is to shoot them with a rifle. Not only do you save ammo but you're less likely to attract more zombies with sound. Obviously shooting them with a silenced gun will garner no new attention from other zombies.

Do I start with a gun? How do in know what their line of sight is?

No, you don't, you're probably more likely to find a hatchet first.

The eye/ear icons in the upper right tell you how visible/audible you are at any given time. They're rated 0 to 5 bars, 0 being good and 5 being bad. You can prone with z, crouch with x, and stand with c. You can also walk by holding shift. All of those stances effect how well they can see/hear you. Day/Night cycles also change your visibility.

I would link you to some sort of tutorial, but I don't know of any good ones to be honest. :P

Some things to consider:

1. If you're running full speed zombies generally can't hit you because they stop to take a swing, meanwhile you kept running and are out of range. Very rarely they will tag you but I think this is a networking issue, not a feature.

2. Zombies are very polite, one of the few things they remember from their time as humans is that they're not allowed to run inside of buildings. If you need to ditch some zombies, look for a building with a very wide door or a building you know has multiple entrances. Do not run into a building with one narrow door unless you're prepared to kill zombies. As you gain experience you will immediately recognize these zombie speed traps and use them all the time. Instead of trying to be stealthy you'll find that the full sprint, ditch the aggro in a building, keep moving approach is both quicker and safer, at least as long as you're sure there isn't a sniper in the area. Even if there is you're harder to hit while running than if you're inchworming through the grass.

3. Zombies track mainly through line of sight with noise coming in second. Breaking line of sight will often break their "lock" on you. Run through bushes, run through pine trees, strafe so that there is always something between you and the zombie, they might break off due to losing LoS, or they might simply get stuck on something.

4. Zombies have trouble chasing you up steep slopes, plus the crest of a hill/ridge will break line of sight.

5. Zombies have even MORE trouble chasing you down very steep slopes, they can even slip and fall to their deaths. You can wipe out too, though, so be careful if you use this technique.

6. Zombies can be distracted by noises, lights, and smoke. Toss a smoke grenade, zombies will jump on it like a dollar menu. Toss a flare, same thing. You need some breathing room to throw items, don't try this if they're right on your tail. Additionally don't forget to switch back to your weapon. You're trying to shoot a zombie that is up in your grill and you're trapped in a slow throwing animation because you never switched back to your weapon. It sucks, don't do it. :P You can also use these distractions *before* they aggro on you, indeed that is what you should do if there is a zombie you want get past without aggroing.

So after my untimely demise last night and almost being killed on spawn by a hacker, things are starting to look up again for me.

Haven't got a silenced M4 yet but I did manage to find my second SVD and 2 mags of ammo. Backed up with my M16+M203, that's some serious firepower and will do nicely until I can get my M4 SD. No my obsession with silenced weapons is perfectly healthy thanks. What? Why are you looking at me like that?

And in amusing twist of fate, I found the last item I was looking for... a GPS. Now if only I could get my NVGs+Rangefinder back as well.

But hey, I enjoy taking shit so feel free to continually put it on me. And that "How about you go kill yourself in your moms basement. You immature bitch." message I got on steam was classy stuff.
To be fair, you did say something similar to Michael.

. I certainly didn't hear many objections to me taking the heat from Trapfire and Oisin for killing Micheal, then giving Micheal shit to everyone's laughter.
I did not laugh. I find it hard to believe whoever sent you those steam/livestream messages laughed either.

You might have handled the situation poorly, but at least someone did it. Whats done is done.

To whoever messaged Wizzard: If you were on mumble, why did you not say anything? If you were not on mumble, keep quiet.

To goonergaz: You should know Michael better than anyone else here, so i am not gonna criticize you for letting him on mumble. Might be a culture thing, but 14 year olds are never refereed to as children in Norway. In my eyes a 14 year old can do whatever he feels like as long as he stays out of violence, drugs and teenage pregnancy. At the age of 13-14 i was at my first lan in 1999-2000.

I played cs b5.2, unreal tournament and quake 3. The 20-30 other people there was all 18+ except my friend. On the projector they showed porn, adult movies and even rule 34 on snow white and the 7 dwarfs. And you know what, it did not affect me the slightest. It has nothing to do with age.

It's just a number. I dare say the cruelty displayed on mumble is far worse than any games or movies. So just keep Michael away from that place and let him hang with people on his own age. Sorry for the pointlessly long story.

To those who laughed on mumble: I hope for your sake you don't truly enjoy listening to people get harassed like that.

To the masturbator: I know who you are.

One of the younger "big boys" (still living with his parents, 17 years old or w/e) felt the need assert his big-boy-status among his fellow gaffers and thought being a dick towards the only person younger than him was a cool way to do it. Of course some us thought it wasn't, but he has his fans for sure so I'm not surprised Michael got killed later on.

Myself I wished he would leave on his own before socially disabled people have to take actions to enforce it, but such is the life on the inter-webs I guess...

I quit the mumble group a couple of days ago and don't intend to go back partly due to reasons and personalities similar to what I described above. I do miss the half-a-dozen or so good guys, but some of them don't play much (or at all) anymore anyways so it's not like I'm losing much. It's also a good time to take a break from this game since I think after 900+ hours I've done enough "testing" to last for a while :-)

Bummer mik.
I don't get on so much anymore.. but i hope i was one of the "good guys." hah.
Perhaps i'll see ya on sometime.

Damn, I stop playing DayZ for a couple weeks and everything turns to shit in the Mumble. Is Daddy Broken going to have to come in and set things straight?

Also, fuck bug fixes, I want more features because I am running out of things to do (plus the bugs can be awesome sometimes).

Name and shame the bater. I'm sick of this lack of knowledge.

ROFL! I entered the supermarket at polana via the back and 2 guys where sitting in the corner, one in standard outfit and the other in ghillie suit, I was thirsty and my food was flashing, so I HAD to enter the store. I also knew that if I would simply enter they would gun me down. so I took my winchester and took shot at the guy with standard outfit, shot him in the head, instantly dead. The dude in the Ghillie suit I shot him in the chest. I saw him lying on the ground and suddenly he disappeared. I ran to a corner (I blasted an ak I found of the other guy and attracted a massive stream of infected, I took aim and continues pumpung lead into the steady stream, and plop! there was ghillie suit man who reappeared right where I was firing and I killed him) I took a look what he had:
Coyote backpack

M4A1 CCO SD
6 STANAG mags, 3 STANAG SD mags
matches, map, gps, compas, watch, toolbox, hunting knife and binoculars
bloodbag, morphine, epi-pen and a bunch of soda's.

There was also a L85A2 AWS, but since I didnt had the STANAG rounds at that time it was useless to me to fend of the zombies. only afterwards when I ran with the m4A1 up the hill that I thought to go back to pick it up. but daylight was already there and I was afraid that there where other guys around.

I went back later in the day and see if it was still there and it was, so I picked it up. I couldn't get the ghillie suit (don't know how to take it from a dead player), but on the other hand, it might make players shoot at me more often.

Top Bottom
