DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

I died and the skin went back to default. But it was the Hero skin I think. Plaid shirt, black Kevlar, different colored hat and the jeans looked like a richer blue. Sleeves on the plaid shirt were rolled up. It looked cool but was terrible for camo.

It's possible my two back to back murders caused me to lose it.

EDIT: It looked exactly like this. Maybe the jeans weren't a richer blue.

Got it going. It's been a while so I started with a new char. I only had a little bit of time to play so I wasn't rocking my headset or on mumble.

Found me a nice little enfield and since there were only a couple peeps (>10) on the serer I wasn't too worried about running into someone, but my luck sucks ballz.

Damn, sorry man. That was me! I was in mumble though. Had a ton of good loot and only 2000 blood so I was edgy as hell about running into someone.

What's the point of DayZ if you spawn without a means to defend yourself and have little chance of encountering any sort of weapon before a zombie sees you from a mile away and runs at you without ever stopping?

If they want some sort of realism (in a gamey sense), why can my character seemingly run forever? I usually end up just giving up and letting the zombie catch up with me, at which point it takes him 30 seconds to kill me as I stand there and his badly timed animation routine is filling the screen.

I love the atmosphere, but I'd like to see where they are going with this mod and how they are planning to improve it.

I've played a few times and have not encountered a human player, I thought I saw two crawling away once but upon closer inspection those were just zombies that decided to crawl. :(

PS. What's the point of spawning dead military units if they have nothing worth looting, even though their model clearly shows that they can at least provide me with some camo and helmets.
PPS. My appetite for this game sort of waned when I was crawling along being sneaky and careful, when I suddenly see a zombie maybe two miles away running right at me. :(

Just like Dayz applied a cool gameplay design to the core arma 2 OA, Lingor took the most suitable map for a Dayz experience and adapted it.

the marathon running you need on Chernarus isn't really a nice experience, and here you can feel like everything's connected. Hell, there's so much enterable stuff compared to Chernarus, that it already is a gamechanger. If you're being assaulted on a town you can enter a building and go to the next one through the roof, for example.

Overall i like it much better.

Whew, what a crazy night on Lingor Island! Video coming eventually. I will say it was hacker free though. I agree with J-Rock, we'll definitely play Lingor more often!

It was pretty damn exciting. Frustrating that we basically lost everything that was found, typical DayZ, but we learned a lot. I'm sure we'll get better with this map and find even more stuff in the future. It was also nice not having to deal with a hacker every 30mins.

I heard that's the Hero skin. What's your humanity at?

Man... LINGOR.

The last game I played on Lingor was so damn intense and hacker free. So good. I'll briefly tell the story.

So I spawn into a city and spot a store in the distance. I head over to it and grab some food, water and gear. I wander a few buildings over and hear some gun shots in the distance. The shots are not directed at me but I feel it's best to get inside the small two story building that I'm next to and watch through the windows. I find a popped tent inside one of the rooms! I dig through it and snag a shotgun. Gunshots ring out closer to where I am at. Then I hear footsteps right outside the window of the room I'm in. I duck down and hear someone come through the front door. This guy is shooting at zombies that are chasing him. I close the door of the room I am in and lay on my stomach with my shotgun facing the closed down. More shots. More zombies. Then even more zombie. Then a shitload-holyfucking-fuck fuck fuck there are zombies everywhere and glitching through the walls all around me. I can't believe how many zombies are attacking this guy. I hear the him run upstairs. His gun still firing and zombies still pouring into this small building. I start to think that he might be in the room right above. Then that thought gets confirmed as blood begins to drip through the ceiling all over me. A few more shots... then silence. I hear him bandage and I focus all of my attention on this closed door in front of me. I wait... and nothing happens. I peek outside the room and see a trail of dead zombies leading up the stairs. I look around on the second floor but the guy is gone. I loot a bit more and nervously make my way out of that nightmare house.

As I step outside, I notice a guy on the roof of a five story building that is across the street. I get up to run because I'm thinking he is probably a sniper but I end up alerting a bunch of zombies nearby. Fuck. Then I hear gun fire from the roof. FUCK. I scramble into an old garage and look back to see that all of the zombies behind me are dead. He killed them. I thank him in the chat. He said, "np, we help each other here". I offer to bring him some food and water and he says to meet him downstairs. He asks if I want to loot the building with him. We raid so many rooms that I lose count. When we finish I ask what the plan is. He says, "follow me" and we run. Eventually we turn a corner and he says, "get in". He has a truck! We run over a crowd of zombies and haul ass out of the town. We cruise for a while and I wonder if this guy is taking me back to some hidden camp of his. Suddenly we stop, he spotted a crashed helicopter in the distance. Time for more looting. We pull up and I get out to distract the zombies while he loots the chopper. He's almost done looting, looks like he found some good gun... shots ring out. A sniper puts a bullet in my leg and breaks it. I'm bleeding out fast. The other guy runs back to the truck to try and get away. I hear him start the engine and I'm hoping that he'll make it out alive. The last thing I see before I die is the guy in the truck getting shot in the head.

A. Run away. Lose zombies by breaking LoS, by blocking their routes with foliage, by dragging them through buildings where they can't run. The best players kill very few zombies, IMHO. I'm fully geared and I have 11 zombie kills on this character.

B. Weapons are easy to find in Chernarus. You just don't know where to look.

C. It is an alpha. Don't expect a AAA experience.

Most of your complaints go away once you know wtf you're doing, btw.

Guys just got a question, does Arma 2/DayZ have any issues with quad-cores? I'm getting a really low FPS but my graphics card isn't being maxed out so the issue could be my CPU

Hahaha, no worries.

I was holding down the caps key yelling friendly when I realized I wasn't rocking my set lol. Also forgot the salute button. So I figured I'd just bolt.

I've seen a couple of vids of Lingor and damn it looks nice. I'm going to give that a shot maybe Wed night as I have house guests in the meantime.

Going to agree with everyone here; Lingor is fantastic. Part of what makes it great is the amount of enterable and varied buildings. This includes a 5/6 story hotel!

Been saying that.

The fact that in chernarus you have to walk quite a few kilometers between towns, and that in some only 1 or 2 buildings are enterable is pretty weak. The feeling of being able to hide and tactic here is unparalleled.

Btw did anyone kill a poor running man with a long range gun, even when he was just laying down trying to get the aggro off inside a house? My heart was racing... he wanted me dead for sure.

I decided to check out the factory this morning.. buses and bodies everywhere. Then I made the dumb mistake of getting in a bus and instant died.

:/

If its one thats next to a airport, you can climb up the elevator shaft to the roof...its amazing

Also lingor last night was insane. I cant wait to really understand the flow of the map(Loot spawns, high traffic areas, etc). After that convoy and finding 3 other cars we were rolling deep. Good times

Damn, and here I broke out all my old mix tapes

But lets see if this really affects the game. I have been seeing a lot more Bans/Global Bans so manybe Battleye is really stepping up there shit

The great thing about Battleye features is that they're always followed by "Add it yourself." Every time they've added new script detection you have to create your own file and populate it with scripts to detect.

Is it just me, or is dayZ really starting to nose dive in popularity? The gaf server used to be full all the time and this thread used to quite active. I'm sure the recent bout of hackers didn't help the server any. And just browsing through other servers yesterday evening, I didn't see very many full or near full servers. Are people bored? Fed up with hackers? Waiting for the standalone? What do you guys think?

It's summer. The weather is good. People go outside.

There's a YouTube video that explains it well. On my mobile so can't link, but sure you can find it if you search.

It's really no bother installing too. Just 2 folders, and changing the launch options on steam. To go back to normal, you just change the launch options again.

Edit* here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n3M6LCaQls&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Why do only people with horrible accents create tutorial videos ?

So with Rocket talking to console makers about putting dayZ on consoles do you guys think they will try to do 360/PS3 or 720/PS4?

That is assuming Sony or MS agrees to it.

What? That's horrible news. :/

Have they revealed anything at all about when the stand-alone DayZ is being released? They made it sound like it is months away not years, since it'd initially be a public alpha.

Is there an interview with Rocket where he explains what he wants to do with this game?

What's horrible about it? Rocket wants a lot of things, nothing wrong with that.

I agree, there is money in consoles, why not add that to the platforms to develop for.

maybe on the next gen consoles.. srsly, console people are amazed by the graphics in arma 2, and personally i dont think it can be any "worse" than it is for a game like this. and the scale of the map and the servers they would need to run.. dont think you will see it any time soon on consoles. but by all means, make it for consoles, but i think the experience will be much better on pc's anyway. hope dayz comes to arma 3.. that would be amazing

I don't think the graphics are very good, to be honest, nor do I think they are core to the DayZ experience. Granted it is a fairly old engine at this point. RV3 does provide for some broad vistas but that isn't entirely impossible on console, particularly not in age where partial hard drive installs and streaming are common. Don't forget, Real Virtuality 2 supported XBOX.

A game very much like the DayZ we play right now could be done on the current generation of consoles.

Anyway, it isn't like Rocket is going to say, "Hell no, I don't want DayZ on consoles!" when asked the question in an interview.

He can add that market to his audience without diluting the experience. The real question would be, "Is RV4 targeting console support and when?" It wouldn't have to be on RV4 but I imagine it would certainly simplify the porting if it were.

Hell, I'd like to see Flashpoint 2: Dragon Dayz on consoles. I think that game pretty much showed how well a war simulator translates to consoles.

And there's another thing to think about: Rocket has a main server to which all data is controlled. All zombie motions are coming from that "mothership" server. There is no way that Microsoft will allow such behavior on Xbox, unless they make a lot of changes to how the persistent world works.

he was like, "we wont support consoles in the way of doing a quick port", but they acknowledge that there is money to be made on consoles, so he is still looking into the matter. oh and wasnt it pretty much confirmed that dayz will be developed on the arma 3 engine. customizing it to suit their own needs
