DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Yea I don't see my self getting back into the mod.

The bugs, hackers and glitches made it near to unplayable. Spending 30+ minutes to get into a server and then getting killed by a hacker isn't fun.

Whaaaa? Just double click a server from DayZ Commander. I haven't had a single problem yet.

The other stuff? Yeah, that's valid.

A lot of information today, Rocket went a little crazy.

Kind of annoying though. I'm always waiting for Rocket to release some new info, and then people destroy him about something really small on Twitter/Reddit.
He posts this UI and people are still ripping him apart, hours later, because of the font...Yes, the font may suck, but in the grand scheme of things it really means nothing.

Rocket Posts:

I thought this was interesting. We have been drooling over the screenshots he has released so far. Admiring the draw distance, AA, textures, plant detail, shadows, etc and apparently Rocket has been playing on Medium this whole time.
Well I've yet to play DayZ Standalone above medium, because I develop and play on a laptop.

We have considered graphical improvements, such as DX11 - but doing something like that WILL delay the project by one/two years. Not only does a large amount of code need to be rewritten - but you have a great deal of art to be change (like, nearly everything). I'm really repeating myself on this topic for the millionth time.

To any comments about an ugly UI or that the field looks the same, you are going to be disappointed. They will not substantially suddenly enhance their prettiness.

While we could devote resources to making the game more sparkly - we aren't. We're devoting resources to making more functionality. DayZ is not a game that is about sexy graphics - I really thought this would be dead obvious.

The game engine was rewritten from being a FPS to an MMO, a huge undertaking of which you will see no visual difference whatsoever. If you want to play an FPS there is ArmA3, if you want to play an MMO, you'll have DayZ.

The reason for no devblog is the entire ArmA and DayZ mod damage systems have been removed and I'm rewriting it from scratch. It's not much fun! But it will be good once done. The forum topic on medical systems here has been a huge inspiration.

Oh and the testers confirmed that they could use walkie-talkies in the game, tuning different frequencies etc..., yesterday

turn off the speaker of a radio in game... instant baby monitor for that location. Try doing that with skype/teamspeak

uh... to monitor a location remotely? turn speaker off... you then have a listening device for that locaiton. Captures text too

DayZ will be playable at E3 on the show floor

My sentiments
Exactly. I'm not delaying standalone to change a font #HasEveryoneGoneCrazy

Reddit:
Our aim is to make the UI as simple and streamlined as possible. Removing as many textures and unnecessary crap as possible to increase performance and reduce complexity.
If there is to be complexity, we are saving that for functionality. Prettiness will not be part of the UI makeup. I have seen far, far too many designs that are vastly complicated, don't work in 4:3, or don't work in 16:9, or don't scale, or don't work on a TV screen, or don't work on a monitor.
The focus not just of the UI, but the game, is on functionality. Just because we could make it look "better" - doesn't mean its the best option to take to achieve functional requirements.
Expect the UI system to get more functionality. Do not expect it to look "better". I would trade the prettiest UI in the world for one additional feature, if it came down to it. UI work does not just require a designer, it nearly always also requires a programmer. Usually an experienced one.

You can drag and drop, say, clothing directly onto your character and it will place it on you - rather than into the specific box.
The character moves around alot, so that's why he looks like he covers the boxes.

Yes new grass

New trees too

Mario our lead artist has been playing with them for some time now

This was my exact thinking. I might get back in and sour my DayZ experience.

Might as well wait for the alpha, then at least I'll be in on a solid product from the ground floor.

Waiting for character to create.. connecting.. trying to establish connection.. loading character...

It took years to join anything. From clicking on a server to moving around in the map it could take a long ass time. Half the servers gave an error and didn't connect too.

I bet the Windex is for cleaning fingerprints or something.

Its for disinfecting items you find on other players.

EDIT: Actually right after I posted this

New UI looks a lot like ARMA 3's. The icons looks low res, but its not a big deal.

All the icons are just the item render. So if it is a low-res asset initially, it will be a low-res icon.

I think they are going through and redoing all of the assets. They have touched up the trees, grass, bushes, player models, zombie models, and more.

It is just a matter of time and resources before they get to certain things.

Here is the new knife they rendered:

This is interesting, really shows the depth of ARMA II.

So this group kidnaps a bandit that was shooting at their helicopter, warning: the video was shot by someone who could be perceived as very annoying.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgH5Q8ZRQUc

I'll give a play by play of what happened if you don't want to watch.

  • Bandit shoots at helicopter
  • helicopter shoots back and wounds bandit
  • crew tells bandit to drop weapon, which he complies
  • they give him blood bag and morphine to get his health back to full
  • one of the crew shoots him in the leg, knocking him out
  • bandage the bandit, and drag him into the helicopter
  • fly to cherno and drop him off of a tall building

Hopefully the player count per server is higher at release, compared to the mod.

50 player server, 30 are gaffers, wouldn't be much fun, we need a large enemy to fight. So we can bring back the battle bus.

I really hope they add some new maps to SA. It is way too easy to spot loot/bases from a chopper. You can fly around the map and just raid the shit out of whoever you want, and a chopper makes the map kinda small, too.

I think that is the plan.

Start with Chernarus, a map that is already mostly completed. Perfect it, while adding in new features for the Standalone.

Once the features are completed, can start working on a new map.

Modding is allowed from the beginning, so people can make custom maps as well.

Grown man part was wrong, he was/is a teenager I guess.

I have to agree with one of the things Wizard said during that event. Leave your kid on a mumble with a bunch of people from the internet without letting them know? Not the best idea in the world. Especially if you've spent more than 5 minutes listening to us talk to each other.

I agree with you on that, if you want to bring your child you should let the others know beforehand.

He was a GAF member iirc already when gibonez killed him. He made some posts here in this thread after his vendetta ended. I met him once, he sniped 4 in our group of 6 before I managed to kill him and his helper. One of the more fun moments I had in the game. :)

I still blame the day/night cycle being out of sync for that sorry state of affairs.:P

It was one of the most epic quests I've done though. Random encounters with friendlies, being lost, Orgun shooting a team member and the hilarity that followed. Being hunted down by Gaben. And all of that while the game was still fresh and unfamiliar.

Haha yeah it was horrible, it was pitch black and raining for some until you relogged and then it was middle of the day and the sun was shining.

Hopefully we'll get more moments like that together in the standalone, because you are buying the standalone right? :)

How's breaking point?

Is it hacker free? Or at least does it have less hackers than vanilla DayZ?

Mod update in June is kinda pointless since the SA should be out then.

I believe the same thing has been uttered every month since standalone was announced. Alas.

Hello all. Arma II Combined Operations is $7.49 on amazon right now, which I understand that you need to play Dayz. Should I buy it now or wait for stand-alone?

Yeah, you want the superior standalone version. The Mod is wall-to-wall hackers. It's why I stopped playing it.

Honestly, if you want to play now, then get it. Who knows when standalone will be available, and yes, there are hackers, but just find a server that has admins on it all/most of the time and you'll be fine.

I feel like a lot of negative opinions on DayZ are from people who played months ago--the game gets fairly regular patches. If you find a good server with admins, its a solid game, if not buggy/wonky (some of that is Arma 2's fault).

Honestly, I say go for it. Yes SA will be out soon, but it will be limited in features for the initial release. The hacking issue still exists but the amount of hacking has been greatly reduced, its been a long time since I have been screwed over by a hacker. There is also a lot of good DayZ mods, such as Orgins, Breaking Point, and Mercenaries which add a different feel to DayZ, plus the multitude of various map mods. On top of that you can play regular ARMA which can be fun in its own right as well.

nah. rocket said he fixed it...

then again he also said the SA would be out in December.

To be fair, the original plan was to package the mod into a single exe, fix some things up, and release.

When War Z flopped like it did, they decided to actually release a real game. So they started from the ground up, rewriting the engine, fixing the animations, and created a whole new game.

Decided to give DayZ Origins a shot and I was impressed.

I got into a game fairly quickly and the server seemed to be well moderated. Choosing your spawn area is a brilliant idea. It tells you how likely it is that you'll die and it'll be amazing for meeting up with friends.

Taking a long ass time to meet up with friends is easily one of the worst things about DayZ. The game doesn't begin until I've grouped up in my opinion.
