DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Hoping you guys here could pass ome advice

If you have any interest in a tactical shooter then yes buy it no question. If your not really interested in base ArmA its a little more of a complex answer. Standalone will be soon, I know we keep saying that, but it will be soon. However the Standalone Alpha will lack the many mods, maps, and features that are available now, so my opinion would be this. Buy CO and DONT play any of the mods that use the Chenarus map if you plan to get SA when it comes out, when it will be the cheapest to buy. That way when SA does come out it'll offer a fresh "new" experience.

Tactical shooters kind of interest me, not to the extent of buying every type, but enough to conjure up some gameplay time so I guess its a no brainer.

Thanks for the advice on Day Z Standalone maps. I'd probably purchase it when its cheap ( which will probably be steam sale 2014 winter/summer) so I guess I'm going for it.

Actually Rocket has said that they are using the Minecraft pricing model for DayZ. Where people who buy in to the standalone early will get it for the cheapest price, and it'll get more expensive as it goes on.

I am never, ever, going to get the time to play all the games I have now bought through steam summer sale :(

FFS. Rocket you need to be making DayZ not buying other games, geez he is so entitled, how dare he have a life. :P

Anyway I'm giving away two more games right now. I don't want to set the world or this thread on fire I just wanna give away a copy of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, both games are the GOTY/Ultimate edition so it comes with all of the major DLC. Same rules as last time, PM me title of the game you want, (you can only claim one, previous winners not eligible this time) first one to get the PM in my inbox wins!

Edit 1: New Vegas is Claimed.

Ok, Arma II was really cheap (still is) on Steam and I bought it with the Operation Arrowhead.

Couldnt wait for the DayZ standalone anymore.

Its downloading now. Hopefully I will be able to play something today.

Any tips for a firs timer? Just places more likely to find some loot that wont have someone sniping me.

Like not in big cities and such. :)

Number one, for the love of god make sure you download DAYZ Commander
http://www.dayzcommander.com/

It will make your life a hell of a lot easier.

Also, I assume this is your first time playing arma, if so give the controls and gameplay time, it is daunting at first and does feel... bad. You will get used to it, don't worry.

Cherno and elektro are the main big cities, they are generally populated so be very careful there.

Berinzino ( top left of the map) is the best in terms of loot : not getting shot ratio imo, it has military tents that sometimes have some good stuff.

For now, stay in pretty much any small town, get used to how the game controls, how looting works, how to heal/ use items etc... ( open your gear with G, right click and use for most items, other times just scroll on your mouse and middle click what you need to do)

If its your first experience with ArmA, I suggest playing the tutorials in the game, at least the ones about movement and such, the other more advanced ones aren't required.

Ok. Thanks.

ANother thing - I read I can play it with a controller? Is it true?

I would really like that. I hate keyboard.

I dont mind keeping it near me for certain things. But for movement and basic stuff Id much rather use the controller.

Don't have any experience with a controller, though I'm afraid you would find your mobility severely limited with a controller. Though of course it would never hurt to try.

Edit: Also Fallout 3 is still up for grabs!

Played DayZero a bit today and it was alright. It wasn't much different from DayZ in its current form but apparently they're releasing a revamped map in v 1.0 and it's currently 0.9.4 atm. Otherwise, it was extremely stable, the 4 US servers had 50~ people on them at all times, and it was smooth as butter.

Edit: Looking at some of the other mods, they make DayZero look tame in comparison. Might try Breaking Point or Origins.

Thanks. That was indeed pretty painless... so there are a ton of different Day Z mods now. Which would you all recommend?

Breaking Point which last I checked wasn't on commander and Origins were the go to mods it seemed, though Day Zero seems to be the new hotness, and I personally liked Mercenary.

How would you guys describe DayZ?

I'm writing the description right now for the OT and felt it would be great to get some community feedback.

It's an emotional roller coaster that constantly teeters between goofing off with your best buds and watching those buds be brutally and systematically murdered.
Usually by J-Rock.

This would be a perfect time to release DayZ.

While everyone is distracted by the Steam sale and deep discounts, only the truly dedicated would buy a full price game during the sale.

OK, so I played a little bit of the game.

- Graphics are bad, but I dont care.
- Zombies keep zig-zagging. That annoys and terrifies me! :P
- A LOT OF BUGS!! Man, zombies just walked right through closed doors.
- A lot of zombies around too. I had an easier time because in the server I was I found guns pretty quickly and I just shot all the zombies. The game became like an FPS at times lol
- I dont know if because I got the guns too soon, but I felt like I peaked too early. I ddint quite know what to do.
PS - Regarding the last one, if does matter that using the keyboard is not natural to me and takes me out of the game. I did use the 360 controller and it helped a lot but still needed the keyboard for certain things.
- The game feels incredibly unpolished.

Overall, I liekd it very much but I hope the standalone improve things and fixes bugs.

Welcome to DayZ, heh you should of seen it last summer. More bugs, more hackers, more death, and then you would have to wait 15 minutes to respawn.

I just bought Arma II bundle on Steam, and downloaded the Mod, but the game crashes as soon as i get to the game menu :/
I didn't have time yesterday to look up why it was happening, but hopefully i will fix that tonight and play a bit.
