DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Note to self, do NOT use "Analog Throttle" with a controller on the Osprey, you WILL tip forward or backward and crash.

Basically, the difference between the standard Q and Z and the "Analog Throttle" options is that Q and Z keep constant application on the throttle where you are at, so you won't go down if you don't touch anything.

I survived two crashes today on the same character, one was my fault, and the other was not. Here's the one that was not, as it resulted in quite a DayZ adventure.

Okay overwatch installed, can't wait to not know what the hell I am doing for the next couple hours...

Will ask is chat for fellow gaffers.

Today I learned not to land helicopters on buildings because...reasons.

1. I tried landing the helicopter on top of one of the hangars before logging out. It looked like it was sliding, but it was barely, and I thought I would be secured. I logged out 1 minute before server restart, came back after, and boom, the helicopter was stuck inside the hangar.

2. This explains itself.

The idea was to land it up there, go down the stairs, park the Humvee in front of the stairs so people can't get up there and remove the tires and keep them on me for when I log back in.

I thought he was our silly?

But it looks like we'll all be moving to Nether eventually. It'll probably be out before SA anyway.

Something something NETWORK BUBBLE something something.

Really good interview. It was a good insight into Rockets life style and how he views DayZ.
Thanks for that. I've been told my interview style comes across as being somewhat unconventional, in that I don't ask the same questions other journalists ask. I assume that's a good thing.

Certainly, the feedback is most appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed the interview.

All this time they spent, I really wish they just created a new, 100% zombie dedicated map as well...

I mean the reason why we are seeing all these features and content being added is because the server architect isn't ready, could have made an actual map too.

The sheer amount of upgrades they have made to the current iteration of Chernarus is staggering.

Standalone looks like a totally different game, while retaining the familiarity of Chernarus.

Playing GTA V to kill time till Standalone, if I have to keep waiting Battlefield 4 will carry me the rest of the way. Anyway GTA is fucking awesome, just beat the main story and can wait for the online part to do some heists with the DayZ crew!

1.8 is now working through Day-Z Commander.
I was playing that solo the last few days. I noticed some things like the zombies being improved, like you can't run right by them scot free. They still are a major annoyance and the only threat from them is jankiness.

The #1 thing I have a problem with is the way the zombies flank you and stutter really quickly. Sometimes it is damn near impossible to get a shot off because their head twitches so fast.

I really like the 1.8 changes though. I think the idea of picking your spawn is good, but only the Cherno, Elektro, and Berezino spawns are worth picking. Balota, Kamenka, and Solnichny need to actually have decent loot. In general there needs to be more buildings to enter, which is something that is already confirmed to be addressed in SA.

When's that milestone going to get approved for Dean Hall's team?

Get a load of this guy, having hope for an impending release or something.

But honestly, I don't know. We haven't really received any updates as far as the "network bubble" goes or the exact nature of it, and as far as I know I think that's more or less the only thing keeping the alpha from being publicly available and/or functional.

completely down to do some online stuff, you playing the xbox or ps3 version?

I guess I just want The walking dead style map ( the show), so based in the US.

They have been doing several updates to the registry this week. They seem to only update the registry when they are testing a major build.
Could go either way, but they are testing something heavily.

My PC cries at the thought of having an actual city in the Arma engine.

They seem to be focusing on engine optimizations and offloading most of the performance issues to server-side, so it probably won't be as intensive.
Of course, the fidelity has increased as well, but not to the point where it will impact performance more than a few percent.

New Screenshot. I'm pleased because I'm not 100% sure what town this is. Though I think is Vichnoy looking north? Or maybe Mogilevka?

A lot of the towns in Chernarus still run together in my head look mostly the same. Only a few really stick out visually, and it comes down to mostly Cherno, Elektro, and Berezino.

That fence on the right is definitely a new asset though. Maybe this could even be a new town?

I barely touched Taviana, but Lingor also really got towns right. Hell it got map design in general right. There is always something interesting within reach, but still enough wilderness. There were a ton of mountains, including a huge one on the middle of the map that had a research facility on it. The northern prison area was dotted with lots of trees, a military base nearby. Some of the towns had more primitive buildings than others. There were even two racetracks, with accompanying of road courses!

I know Chernaurus is based on a real world location, and that works for Arms, but not as well for DayZ, which is why I'm glad they are adding stuff for Chernaurus+, including the entire Utes island.

Looks like littlworm might have been right about a October release of StandAlone. He asked me the other day what I thought about such a release and at the time was still VERY skeptical about it. Rocket has gone on time and time again saying that "Nothing is keeping me from releasing alpha, other than the network bubble"(Note: Short and sweet here but not really a direct quote)

Now since the Network bubble is a something that cant really be filmed other than slowing down gameplay vids and looking at frametimes or ping latency vs ping retention its easy to understand why he hasnt shown anything new with it.

Now from a marketing standpoint October is an AWESOME month for a game like this. Spooky, eerie games really suit the time around Halloween and I can only hope Rocket releases DayZ SA Alpha with an awesome Trailer for Halloween.

And If its not SA then maybe more gameplay of his "Testers" playing with a coconut.

Curious what all it would have it it came out then. There have been a bunch of things that Rocket said may or may not be in the alpha. Here is a few of them off the top of my head.

-vehicles
-removable parts of vehicles
-reworked zombie AI

The only one that is possible is the reworked AI, have heard him mention that possibility a couple times on Reddit.

Vehicles, doubtful. Haven't heard anything about them in a long, long time.

I hope they do have more weapons ready to go by the time Alpha launches. Just having the M4 would be fairly boring.
