AFAIK based on this and other posts which are too hard to find right now, people will be able to set up and host their own servers immediately, but there will be no private hives and little if any customisation. Much like the official hive for the mod right now.
I also remember him talking about the hive itself, and how it was very easy to reverse engineer which resulted in the rise of private hives - something they didn't really want. They have built an entirely new system now to prevent the same thing happening, so we won't be seeing 500 vehicles / spawn with DMR / hello kitty backpacks servers any time soon.

When the Standalone launches I will just post what I have and I can iterate from there. It will be a little light on information since we don't know everything and the game will change so much over the course of the first few months.

It was one year ago today, the battlefield Fallujah. We were chasing a enemy on an ATV through the desert. His ATV designed for the off road conditions allowed him to put distance between us. It seemed he was going to get away till he ended up killing himself after wrecking on some train tracks.
As we secured the crash we came under sniper fire, in out rapid attempt to flee ZenVolta was shot, and Blitzcloud was left under fire. After being split into three groups, J-Rock and Zenvolta extracted from the area still under sniper fire in an attempt to find safety so Zen could be treated for his wounds. At the same time I searched to city for Blitz. Once Zen was patched up but still low on blood and with broken legs, they attempted to reach our camp. However when nearing the camp they once again came under sniper fire.
Meanwhile I managed to pick up Blitzcloud and we decided to regroup in the desert outside of town. Once regrouping we saw to Zen's wounds. However a hostile vehicle approached from the north. As it neared, we opened fire, the combination of heavy 7.62 fire from the MK 48 and M14 in conjunction with the 5.56 rounds from the L85 made quick work of the driver. The vehicle skidded to a stop near our position.
Then as if it was possessed by alien technology it began to move on its own. In a attempt to understand the vehicle I entered it. Then there was a explosion and I was blown form the car, I thought I would die. However the brave efforts of Blitzcloud, when he pulled me from the fiery inferno in tandem with J-rock's medical skills, I lived to die another day.

Its still the same AR15 base platform. Slapping a laser sight and fore grip on a weapon doesn't change the base.
I was referring to guns that work entirely differently to that weapon, have different postivie and negative attributes, and rarities.

Been desperately waiting for more DayZ. Every since their mod just went to crap and is hacked out of this world, I've waited for standalone. I have high hopes for this game. Anyone know how much the alpha will be priced? I'm guessing somewhere around $15-$20?
That's the general idea.
I don't think the mod(s) are crap right now. I just enjoy playing on a server that we stay on and build, etc. It was really fun a few weeks ago when we had a resurgence of GafDayz love and were basebuilding. Mostly now I just play Wasteland.
But yes, if and/or when the SA comes, shit will get real. I am going to get all the M4s.
Gas masks? In an apocalypse? Huh.

If this is a dumb question then pardon my ignorance (I don't follow this game cause I don't have a good PC) , but is there any possibility that Day-Z could come to next gen consoles??????? Seems perfect as a PSN title.
Sony approached them about the possibility at one point, if I remember correctly.
Eventually maybe, but considering the work they still have to put into the PC version I wouldn't hold my breath. I definitely don't see it coming out before the PC version is out of beta which will most likely take a while.
Not sure how valid this still is, but quite some time ago Rocket said they'd look at console ports if it sold x million (it was one or two) on the PC. Early information around the Xbone suggested that it wouldn't be a friendly platform for an early access type game with weekly updates, but as TCKaos mentioned there was some contact with Sony. I believe MS then announced some changes that made the Xbone a potential target too.

I know a lot of PC elitists balk at the idea, but I think it would be fantastic if BIS was given a path back into the console market by DayZ.

I'm willing to bet the game would sell way more copies on console than PC. I've almost built a PC a few times solely to play this game. Put it on consoles in its final build and I'm sure it would be a success.

Wouldn't shock me if they have a next gen console version in the works. After the PC build is finalized of course.
