Sometimes I wonder why we let Zen fly when he has a history of killing us all on several occasions lol.

So SA before the end of the year confirmed. More so it'll be out weeks before the end of the year.
Hype, Hype, Hype!
NOPE. NOPE. NOPE. We really blew this one. I've taken the article with the above headline down simply because it appears to have been so far off the mark that updating it would be not only an inadequate remedy but may have the potential to continue to misinform.
As the editor, the publishing of this story is my fault and my fault alone. I apologize to our readers as well as to Dean Hall, who I've reached out to for comment. (If he declined, I'd certainly understand.)
Once we have heard from Mr. Hall, or later this afternoon regardless, I'll update the story. Again, my apologies. - Logan Decker
oops. If you're going to mine reddit for scoops, Perry Vandell, be sure to read the whole conversation.
So you're saying Mid-December, right? Cause if you're saying it might come out sooner than that, maybe before Thanksgiving, I'd say you're crazy. Unless you had a source. A real source though. One that isn't "A friend of a friend" or something like that, y'know?
HAHA! Oh DayZ thread, you're so funny!
For non-redditors, mildly amusing shit went down today. PC Gamer did a piece based on Rocket's monster reddit posting session the other day. In the process, they drew every incorrect conclusion possible and gave it the sensational title DayZ Standalone version delayed due to bugs and poor optimization.
The ensuing storm resulted in a personal, public apology on reddit from PC Gamer editor Logan Decker, and the retraction of the year:

Well if he wants a soft launch right when all these consoles come out seems like a good time...

I hope they won't have a high starting price because of the very same reason, I want to be in from d1 and I'm moneyless right nowHe gas been saying for months that he would prefer the launch to be as small as possible.

Hope you guys like M4's and Mosin Nagants! Because that's what you will have day one. In addition expect about 8 or so melee weapons and a pistol as well. Also there will be walkie talkies.
Edit: On an unrelated note today was the most guessed day in the DayZ giveaway contest.

Adventure Awaits!
zombie damage currently results in damage to items where they hit you, the same as normal player melee.
There is always a calm before the storm. There is still no official release date - i reckon one day you will wake up and DayZ will just be there on Steam. No fuss.
Veeeery rare, right?Hope you guys like M4's and Mosin Nagants!
It was one time Wigs =/
I wonder if NVG's will be in SA day one or at all? I wanna creep on some fresh spawns in the dark.
I miss playing in the dark like the old days. So many servers are day time only.
Like you said, being able to creep up on somebody in NVG's, so close you can touch them is one hell of a rush.
Quick question - are NVGs supposed to utilize batteries in the game, a la real life? Or do they just work forever?

NVGs are lame. Night should be the great equilizer.

Often it's less of an equalizer and more of a handicap. It just makes the game downright unplayable at times.
Everyones gone home for the night. I'm just finishing up some work on the character creation screens.
We are getting close
rocket2guns (4): the optimizations got reverted and are in their own branch being fixed now. will be merged back once done
rocket2guns (4): again, I'd just be happy with it not crashing and good server FPS
rocket2guns (4): we plan to redo the existing stamina system at some point, same time as we look at weight
rocket2guns (4): ragdoll is in active development, but no idea when it comes through into alpha
rocket2guns (4): once we get the optimization merged back in
rocket2guns (4): we'll test with more players
rocket2guns (4): I probably like the swamps best on cherno
rocket2guns (4): the new swamps are awesome
rocket i have a little question regarding the map editor. does the standalone require a new approach or are you guys using the editor for arma 2? just in case someone wants to go ahead and build a new map for SA
rocket2guns (4): no map editor for a start in SA
DonnyTrump: need online leaderboards - perhaps an api
rocket2guns (4): yeah was just thinking about an API
rocket2guns (4): trying to get character creation working properly
rocket2guns (4): review past characters, set a default one, that sort of thing
rocket2guns (4): one character at a time, but you can see past ones
rocket2guns (4): once performance is acceptable we'll release the alpha
Hicks_206: Now, with unarmed melee - that is DEFINITELY the case.
Hicks_206: Well, think of how more common they would be in real life.
For what it's worth the question also asked about WHO would be in charge of the servers. This doesn't appear to be answered.Hicks_206: There will be a large quantity of servers at launch. Hopefully, large enough![]()
Hicks_206: My advice to everyone here - while the game is downloading, read the manual. You'll want to know the controls so you can survive.
More MeleeHicks_206: A wide array, with many more to come in the future.
Hicks_206: Melee is *definitely* a core pillar of the game now
Hicks_206: As character creation is literally being finalized as we speak by Dean, I'd prefer not to comment, as it might change at any time.
Hicks_206: But the design is to allow a good array of customization to aid in a wide variety of survivor types,
Hicks_206: Listen, when it comes to launch - I expect issues. I've been #2 on the escalation chart for online only projects for other, very influental companies before and even -they- couldn't stop the inevitable
The best you can do is prepare for the worst, and make sure you have a clear escalation chart, and a big red emergency phone to the data centers for when shit hits the fan.
Hicks_206: You can be certain, when the game launches - Dean will be staring at the feedback tracker with his eyes peeled back, and I'll be on a bridge call with the server host
Hicks_206: I've been addicted to watching this guys DayZ videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/stephenmorrish
Hicks_206: The way DayZ is designed allows to maximum flexibility, and experimentation. So, its been discussed.
Hicks_206: We're still addressing our approach to this, however at launch there will be large quanities of game servers.
Hicks_206: Client side? I've found the game to be genuinely much smoother experience, and lower demand than the mod.
Hicks_206: Its definitely a goal. We have rifts in the office, and I know Dean is in love with the device
Hicks_206: The easiest way for you to think of it Conductor, is that as of the time of that tweet, the zombie AI was not interacting with the geometry of the walls. Going straight for the player. (At that time)
Hicks_206: DayZ makes DayZ Mod feel like the difference between watching a cartoon from the 80s, and then watching the live action series on bluray.
Hicks_206: Side by side, the difference is SO noticable
Hicks_206: Our tentpole goal, is the player experience. Presenting the player with a stable, and enjoyable gameplay experience. Framerate is a big part of this. keven.
Hicks_206: And it will continue to be
Hicks_206: post launch
Hicks_206: I can't speak to Utes. We need to discuss our goals with this internally.
Hicks_206: traf: That system is ongoing, and will continue to be a major focus from here until the 1.0. So, while I can't speak to what will be out on day 1 of the early access, know that *frequent* updates, and ongoing development is planned for years to come.
Hicks_206: Hah, we'll see Roxyn. It'll be interesting to see where we take the discussion on bases, etc when we get there.
Hicks_206: Punching zombies is possible, but not advised.
Hicks_206: A tester was AFK outside Vybor, I found him, handcuffed him -and then proceeded to dress him.
Hicks_206: Mostly because about 95 to 98% of the structures are enterable now.
Hicks_206: Nah, not drugs. Just regular office hours of 13 to 15 hours a day, 5 days a week, sometimes weekends as well.
Hicks_206: Time will tell.
Hicks_206: Alright, its bed for me. Going to watch the post mortem for Maniac Mansion on Youtube and drift off. Should I open chat back up?
Hicks_206 left chat.
This month?Damn they are working hard guys.
Let me out it like this - I got told a rough date before but now they are getting hyped to release themselves. I think rocket wants it out as much as we do lol
