What is the Speedforce? It is an elemental force that powers Superspeedsters, notably those connected to the Flash family. It powers and binds them, it exists as an extra dimension that can be access if one goes fast enough. Skilled speedsters can "bounce" off it in a crud form of time travel. Inept speedsters can accidentally enter it by going fast enough, but once you go in chances are you are not coming out. It is speedster heaven, and if don't have a connection with the Speedforce you will spend eternity being eaten alive by the energy.

But first thing first, not all Super speedsters have a connection to the Speedforce.

All incredibly fast characters, in Zoom's case he is faster than flash, but zero connection to the speedforce.

It is hinted the Speedforce is somewhat sentient and choices who it wishes to empower. Usually in the form of lightening strikes. But not the only way
Savitar, Barry Allen, and Wally West rode the lightening

Being able to visualize an abstract math formula like Johnny and Jessi Quick

OR being born into it like the cousins XS, Impulse, and Captain Boomerang II

The speedforce isn't a one trick pony, different people can develop different applications of it.

Like Johnny and Jessi Quick are the only speedsters that can use it to fly

Jay Garrick uses it to slow down his aging, he is damn near 80 and but looks 40 and still in physical prime condition.

Wally West can create constructs made of pure speedforce, his costume being the notable use of that

Bart Allen can create sentient doubles of himself made from speedforce that have the ability to travel through time.

Made this thread, because "LOL Speedforce" is just not always the answer.

It's a silly construct, but it does has internal continuity(most of the time).

Any questions.

Infinite Crisis.

The Flashes and Impulse trapped Superboy Prime on the Speedforce.
He then escaped, how? and what was supposed to happen if he was trapped there?
Is it a physical place?

You know what was awesome? In Waid's Flash run, every now and then, Wally would have a quick "Flash Fact" narration / thought balloon where he'd share with the reader all these tidbits about the Speed Force he had learned from Barry.

In retrospect, I realize Barry was a much better character when he was the dead mentor dude rather than the selfish asshole who broke the DCU.

Great thread. Minor thing to add but it's been brought up that at least most speedsters don't think as fast as they move so a kind of mental tunnel vision. Is this right?

The Speedforce is an observable force in the universe.

Flash thread let's go! I halfway thought about making something like this because most people don't understand how powerful of an entity is.

No most of them have to be able to react/ converse and have actual combat at extremely high speeds. Meaning that their brains are also super charged to process information exponentially faster. They do have total control of their speed so if they want to slow every thing to actually communicate normally they can.

That was morrison being morrison, the Flashes used the Speedforce as a shortcut to another world where they trapped Prime in a lab. Prime later escaped and built his battery suit from shit he found in the lab.

Superboy Prime is effectively a joke character. The Speedforce is an observable force in the universe.
Most speedsters can turn on and off their perceptions

Interesting.. Can he use the speedforce if need it?

Nope his powers are time based, he is not moving faster then everyone else his temporal frame of reference is ahead of everyone else.

Downside he doesn't have access to speedforce tricks. Like vibrating, and what not.

Downside he doesn't have access to speedforce tricks. Like vibrating, and what not.
So he's always in a state of lag. That should be irritating to no end.

Why does the SF choose bad people to?

It's worth mentioning on.a character level Max Mercury is the coolest guy ever and Cap Boomerang was almost cool and then wasn't.

In new 52 thawne actually does have a connection to the speedforce he controls the perception of time to himself and others via speed force.

You should add a section on speedforce dumping and speed stealing.

Another note on speedforce effects on the mind.

Barry has developed the ability to number crunch and visualize all possible outcomes for a situation he's about to enter.

But Geoff Johns wrote infinite crisis. Morrison wrote Final Crisis. And Johns has experience with writing the speed force, so I don't understand how Morrison is involved.

is there a power scale in terms of Speedforce characters and those able to replicate it in other ways?

Do you mean like whose the most powerful. That would be Wally West he's able to mainline the speedforce while others access it. He's pretty much become one with it.

Power-scaling doesn't always work in comics due to application in combat and the nullification of certain effects. This is especially true when the abnormal speedforce users fight speedsters.

Fun fact: Speedforce kisses heal acute mind domination by the Anti-Life Equation.

So specific.

I wonder, if the Speed Force is a somewhat sapient force, how long it will take for DC to reveal it is like an Lantern entity? like some dumb shit like a red cheeta or something.

Imagine when DC brings in the The Clear, Green, Red, and Source into the mainstream.

I honestly think it's just. "the lightening" that's how it's always referred to.

Isn't Zoom Hunter Zolomon and Professor Zoom Eobard Thawne?
