Damn, people without HDTVs probably wont even notice a difference.

This is definitely Xbox 1.5 not even as impressive as the Dreamcast when it came out.

To people expecting a PS1 to Dreamcast type leap. Yeah.

Jim had to take another dig at Ninja Gaiden! :lol

Looks like Ninja Gaiden Black is just the game with all the hurricane stuff added!
As has been mentioned before, most recently in an Itagaki interview on 1up IIRC.

Wait till you guys see multiplatform EA and Activision Xbox 360 games.

DoA4 will look brilliant in comparison.

Dude. Godfather. OMFGFAPFAPFAP.

j/k.

I've been sharing these pics with friends over aim the past couple minutes, and all these friends of mine are super casuals, their first impressions are looks like xbox1.

I don't remember people being this harsh on the Heavenly Sword screenshot that we saw, and nothing about that screenshot was particularly interesting even when you consider the number of characters on screen at once. Aren't you guys buying into this Xbox 1.5 nonsense a bit too early, just because some Sony PR person had a good sound bite regarding the 360?

Nintendo and Sony now need to step up to the plate and show something that exceeds this.

Sony most likely will, I only hope Nintendo has some impressive stuff on that video reel they're planning.

Look at every internet forum, everyone is saying the same thing.

I think Team Ninja should have released pics without the models at first.

Because the backgrounds look fabulous. Most of the complaints I see are focusing on the models.

Yeah, I think the models are a disappointment too. I expected more detail in the models next gen like flowing hair instead of the clumped hair we see in the pics.

It's safe to assume that if the character models in DoA3 and DoA2U didn't bother you, then neither will those in DoA4, and you'll be impressed with these pics.

Following this thread is like running behind a 1000mph train, on a wheelchair with a broken wheel.

It's gonna be a crazy E3

As for the game: it looks like I expected an Xbox 360 game might look like. Yeah, low expectations I had.

I'm not buying into the quote, but that's because I'll be shocked if Sony one up MS significantly. I'm really with Drinky on this one--this new generation will underwhelm people more than they would like to accept.

Ok I never thought I would do damage control for MS.

This is the next Unreal Tournament, based on Unreal Engine 3.0 which the xbox 360 is supposed to handle with ease as all MGS games will be developed with this engine.

These models look far better to me and as DOA4 only has to display 2 on screen rather than several I think its fair to say these screens are no indication of xbox 360's power.

Well, if people were extremely critical of the Heavenly Sword pic, it just shows that even the PS3 can disappoint. I can understand that people would be underwhelmed by the next-gen due to their expectations, but its not like its exclusively a x360 problem.

Mind you, the Heavenly Sword pic was being developed on a high-end PC. Expect the PS3 version to look much, much better.

Is it that unrealistic to expect a PS1 > dreamcast type of jump? Isn't that the point of a next gen console? This is more like going from a geforce 6200 > 6800...

Loads and loads and loads of them, actually.

I don't remember there ever being a debate about PS1 vs. PS2 at all. I don't think we even have to post PS1 pics to know how ridiculous that would be. The only issue at the time was whether it was out of the Dreamcast's league.

The fact that they're going for more anime models than true human look doesn't disappoint me. The fact that things like hair, bad depth of field, and those FLAT GRAPES are things that just drive me bonkers. That and the fact that there's only TWO characters on screen at one time and this is the best they can do?!

I was always impressed with the DOA games, models and backgrounds, but if this is really X360 shots, damn, we better be getting some new play mechanics or something next gen cuz these 20 extra polygons just ain't gonna cut it.

I'm not too happy if this is what the next gen games will look like. Frankly, I'm not too fond of "Doom 3 / Unreal 3 look" either. We'll see what devs which make the kind of graphics I like can do, I guess (hello Ico team), but I somehow wouldn't be surprised if someone told me these DOA4 screens are from Xbox 1. There really isn't that much difference between the FSAA high res shots of old DOAs and this (which I assume will run at high res with native FSAA so that's a nice feat in itself but doesn't elevate it enough in my eyes)

To those of you who say *Team Ninja can't do anything more realistic because it's their style, etc* - Don't fool yourself. Look at their FMVs - sure they can do much more complex and advanced than this...

Can someone post those screens of Mizuguchi's new game that was mentioned earlier in this thread?

No, the scary thing is trying to imagine what the people who're appalled by the next-gen footage shown so far (and that to come) have deluded themselves into believing the leap's going to be. There's a leap, but it's not in looks.
I'm expecting character models with hair, shading and complexity of Nalu from Nvidia demo in games where there's no more than 2 characters on the screen. Or slightly better than that. *No more, no less* These character models are not even close to that, though. I'm not expecting fighting games to look like Tekken 5 FMV intro but with some tricks I'm hoping they could replicate that style in downgraded form (and only hoping, not really expecting!)

I think the Sony anit-hype of the Xbox 360 is working as planned at GAF. I guess when we start seeing PS3 screens people will get off the Xbox 1.5 nonsense and realize that they won't be a significant difference in the graphical capabilities of both consoles.

I think the screens look good. This gen is gonna suck if don't have an HDTV though. :D

What's really worrying is that this is a fighting game. I mean I can understand the diminshing returns argument with a lot of games...but a fighting game?! They don't have to fully detail massive environemtns or loads of enemies/bosses etc. I dread to think what games where diminshing returns will actually play large roles will look like.
