Given the style of dead or alive its not like they had much to improve on anyway.

agreed, I think the ones who will truly push the system, will be the ones who create amazing CG. Square and the polyphonal digital should be amazing for instance. Team Ninja, being that last gen they were a powerhouse, does not gurantee them the same title this gen. It's going to shift more from a limitation of tools to a limitation of the artists I'm guessing, which in a lot of ways is a good thing.

edit: well, maybe i got it wrong, considering their CG

the more i think about it... the more this game reminds of of capcom fighting jam.

the stages can look next gen... but the characters look like they were from a previous generation.

The one thing I can say is that all the next system are going to have a problem with ....

hair.

With sharper images and more detailed models the tricks developers have used in the past are going to be easily recognized.

This thread sucks. Even with all the reports that these are internal beta shots from a very early build. The assclowns are still trying to compare it to other games.

yeah, supposedly hair's hard even for CG, as Pixar's noted in their documentaries. But some developer does it right and the others follow foot. Hopefully.

The style is not a limiting factor..some Tecmo CG was posted earlier that proves that. Not that I expected it to look like this-gen CG..but closer to that than current gen realtime graphics anyway.

The Tecmo CG looks slightly better than the ingame stuff. Graphically, Ninja Gaiden and DoA ultimate were nearly perfect. I dont know what can be done to make it feel like a next gen game other than completely changing the style.

I know, but with the character models, even I fail to see how they will improve. Then again, I'm a comsumer, they are a very talented gaming company. I have faith they will pull it through.

Don't worry. Sony will have something so mind blowing and earth shattering coming up that you all will be excited for next gen.

PS3 = the real next gen system
PSP = the real next gen handheld

Oh god...

Okay. Let's stop comparing it to other games, even TN games. Let's compare it to movies! The 360 is the "start of the HD era".

Well fella, from my experience of games development (my experiences are on Xbox & PS2), when you see screenshots from Alpha (beta is usually before certification/mass production) games builds the graphics you see usually does NOT increase to an exponential state. In this case, Team Ninja got 4-5 months to get the game together to make it in time for M$ certification process and also in time for the main Xbox 360 launch providing M$ is still aiming for an end of year launch. So, do you think 4-5 months is allot of time?

Besides, the assclowns have every rights to compare this games to games of today - why? Because us assclowns are still waiting for justification to why we should part our money with Microsoft to purchase something that is yet to prove to us to be the next-big-thing in video gaming entertainment.

Wow, someones bitter. It's just a game console. Relax.

Wow, what a long thread. I'm sure I am repeating here but I doubt the released version will look like this. The lighting and barbie doll skin seem like a clear sign that this game has not ramped itself up for the 360 hardware yet.

Well, he has a point. MS is the company rushing next gen out this year. They better have a good justification for consumers to spend another 300 to 400 bucks on hardware plus 60 bucks a game (Since prices are going up).

This is the subconscious theme of this thread. Sure, people are nitpicking graphics, but when it comes down to it, they are making sure that their money is being spent on something truly extraordinary (which is of coure what MS wants us to think the 360 is).

Btw, that Tekken comparision above is flawed as it runs tekken 3 through an emulator that adds bilinear filtering, higher resolution and other things.

Exactly. The backgrounds look amazing too. It's kinda odd to see insanely detailed backgrounds and characters that look like mannequins.
Frankly, I don't think even those backrgrounds are some kind of large update over DOA3 and DOAU. Remember the autumn forest stage in DOA3 or the stage with elephants in DOAU?

well by all means then, lets judge our future purchases and make comparisons based on these screens that tecmo themselves say aren't even indicative of their next gen work!

thats the smart thing to do :)

the screens look good to me... but like everyone esle... it isnt the quality i expected from team ninja. I was really looking forward to doa 4 because I thought they would set the bar in how 360 games should look like... so far only ghost recon 3 has done that.

anywho... i will wait to see how the game looks in motion... something about that fruit stand.

in truth... doa 4 looks like doa: ultimate w/ normal mapping

Where are the Ghost Recon 3 360 screenshots? I've never seen them.

Is that Tecmo quote substantiated anywhere?

If they were on the press FTP site I'd say that is pretty indicative of the product. This whole thing sounds like the usual webmonkey uploading things before they were meant to sort of thing that happens every year.

then why do they say Xenon in some of them rather than 360?

That is what I expected from Team Ninja on the 360.

Well, of course.

That is why we must wait until the MTV special before deciding! :lol

I hope DoA4 is shown! :D

I'm conflicted about the best way to make a point in this thread.

On the one hand, the graphics are just a shinier version of this generation.

On the other hand, you should prefer that to Tekken 5. Worth $300? Worth $400? What is? Certainly not the content with which Nintendo and Sony launched their respective consoles, and Microsoft only managed a single killer app.

Just buy the game if you like the way it looks and/or the idea of playing it. Surely no one here is dumb enough to purchase a mediocre fighting game because it has the best graphics.

You can be certain of two things.

1) The Xbox 360 will have a ton of great looking games.
2) At launch, this DOA4 game will be the best looking fighting game you have ever played, assuming it makes launch.

That's all I need to know. I prefer marginal improvements over imaginary games anyday. If Namco smokes this within 6 months of the Xbox 360's release, I'll eat my words.

I prefer marginal improvements over imaginary games anyday.

The problem, however, is that console generations typically last 4+ years and we are stuck with that hardware. I already feel that they are trying to start the next generation too early (XBOX is still being pushed...). If they are going to go ahead with it, however, I want something much more substantial than a "marginal" improvement.

Thankfully, the 360 seems plenty powerful. I simply expected Team Ninja (of all teams) to really impress right from the start.

No. The smartest thing to do was for Micro$oft to make everyone go crazy by showing Unreal 3 on the Xbox 360 to the masses before showing anything like this.

Don't get me wrong, my comments does not imply that what ever you see now this is what you get from the 360. All I am saying is what everyone else is saying and entitled to say - this is the first real Xbox 360 game that we're seeing and so far is it NOT what we expected from this machine. On the Xbox, with respect to graphics, this would've been marvel but for the Xbox 360', which supposed to be the best thing since slice bread, it does not fulfil to expectations like the Dreamcast/PS2 did for the first quarter of the 128-bit wars.

Anyway, let's see some trailers of this game to judge more.

these screens arent sanctioned by microsoft or tecmo, they are not official screens in any way. and the "masses"? they will never see them.

The in game models dont look that different, the backgrounds dont look that different. The only noticable improvement is the lighting. I dont think thats what people are expecting for a generational leap in quality. There is no way for either of these franchises to make that kind of leap unless they go for a photorealistic look.

I'd watch out with that $ sign. People here are so closeminded they can put you on their ignore lists for that.

:\

Now let's wait until you see some out-of-your-mind PS3 games(Namco, SE, Capcom, etc) before you say next gen is disappointing ok people?

Why is this still being debated when it has been said that they recently got final dev kits? This has become stupid now

Most of my networking friends here at work who saw the game said "New XBox game?" I told them it was MS next generation system and they said what's the difference?

That ain't a good thing for MS when Sony is calling your machine XBox1.5

If these screens weren't sanctioned then whey were they on Tecmo USA's press FTP???

if they were official, for press release pics why would they say "XENON" on them? isnt the name of the system 360???

getting final dev kits means jack. Like someone mentioned before, w/ any dev kit, even alpha kits, you can aim for the moon in terms of texture/lighting/poly counts.... Sure, it may run @ 3 fps but the point is you don't dumb down the game if you think you can do better on the final hardware.

Stop reading OA. And if like me, you can't, then at least stop believing whatever you read there. These were on a press FTP site. Kinda hard to explain that away. Maybe Fishie can get on the Batphone with Tecmo and get an explanation from them. :lol PEACE.

Then let's wait for the official screens, but bear in mind, if the sanctioned screens are from the same game then don't expect (if you are) for anything to be any different than this. Also... It doesn't matter whether these screens are sanctioned or not - I mean - who else can produce super-high resolution screenshots like that other than the person who have access to the original kit that contains the new DOA coding?

Anyhow, if this was a crafty "let's test the public's reaction by showing/leaking these pics online in order to see whether they'll be happy or not" then let me help the panels by saying...

"GUYS & GIRLS... IF THIS WAS ON THE XBOX THEN TWO THUMBS UP WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE! BUT IF THIS IS THE XBOX 360 THEN ONE THUMB DOWN..."

Anyway, let's wait and see those videos... We might all be presently surprised once we see something moving anyway.

Ha! Ha! Sony told MS that their momma wears army boots.

:rolleyes Has it come down to this childish crap.

Wrong batch of pics uploaded? Practical joke? Who knows.

If Tecmo says these aren't representative of the game then all we can do is wait for official pics that are.

Is there a quote or link to a statement from Tecmo? Or is Fishie the mouthpiece for Tecmo? PEACE.

How do you know how Team Ninja works? Especially given that the other games displayed from various sources show improvement from Xbox 1 hardware. Ninety-Nine Nights looks much better than a Dynasty Warriors and Ghost Recon 3 looks much better than GR2. Nevermind, I'm thinking logic is involved here. I'm just going to sit back and not get caught in the warzone
