Dead or Alive 5: Bunny Angel Trailers

I problably ain't, because I'm no fighting fan. But when it was released, I had DOA4 and played some of it. The controls were (I don't know how you guys call it) stiff? janky? Kinda tank controls?

This is a genuine question, don't get angry. I'm just trying to understand what am I missing. I saw the videos of DOA5 and while graphically yes it looks much better than DOA4, looks like they just re-skinned the game.

I have Soul Calibur IV and while watching those videos of V, it didn't pop out that "fresh" feeling, you know what I mean? Like I'm not missing much.

I'm just saying that because I'm about to buy an arcade stick for P4A, and I really wanna get into fighting games... But since I already played SCIV and DOA4, I don't see enough reasons to pay 60 bucks right away.

Yes, please. I'd like to know that too.

New engine with lush environment interaction kupo, I had a feeling you just touched DOA 4 and had exaggerated memories.

I can kind of see where you're coming from. I highly disagree with the games being simply reskinned but the differences aren't going to be immediately noticeable. For example, SC4 and SC5 probably do look the same in videos. At best, a layman will notice that they added a super meter and recognize that adds a new resource to be managed that wasn't there in 4. In practice the changes in the frame data and move lists aren't going to be noticeable until you actually play the game for a while.

The jump from DoA4 and DoA5 shouldn't be too visible to casual players because if it changed too much it wouldn't be a DoA game. However, the under the hood stuff will noticed by regular DoA and fg players.

The recent SBO combo exhibition shows that they haven't fixed the hit/hurt box. Like some attacks are clearly not hitting visually but visually register as a hit. Kokoro has a few just to name one off the top of my head.

Whoa! Ignored that Jann Lee was revealed!! :D!

But where is Bass?
He gets a luche libre costume that's just his mask and undies. Does that count?

There was also prejudice among members in the fighting game community towards DOA.
It's not just the FGC that doesn't like DOA. DOA's own community hasn't been happy with the game in nearly a decade.

They've made a bunch of changes to the gameplay to remove most of what people hated about 4.
No they haven't.

I've never been a fan of DOA and won't be picking up 5 but to say it's DOA4.5 is pretty stupid.
No, it's pretty accurate.

I don't see how this is bad.
DOA4 is probably the worst fighting game in existence.

I can't remember every change off of the top of my head but one of the main changes was to the counter system. In 4 the window to counter was huge, you could catch someones attack really late into the frames, in 5 they've reduced the window for the counter to actually connect.
They only reduced the active frames by four frames, so 22 -> 18. That's still huge. Though, they did add a bit more recovery frames thankfully.

They seem to be listening to the competitive community and making smart changes to 5.
Not really. With every single new video to come out, we're still asking for the same exact changes that we've been asking for years.

Laugh but it's true. A fighting game where a successful hit doesn't mean anything is a terrible one.
I laughed because I just thought your bluntness was pretty funny, you didn't beat around the bush, you just came out and said it, lmao.

I don't play Dead or Alive enough to disagree or agree with you.

The swimsuits are kinda tacky looking, and not in a fun way.

Equal opportunity fanservice is the best fanservice.

TEKKEN WINS!!!
For real.

TTT2, Virtua Fighter 5 & Soul Calibur V all have swimsuits for both genders. While DoA, the one that started the whole swimsuit trend, might not have any for the guys? That would be pretty lame.

Tekken female character models are so much better... DOA are all almost the same, just with different hairstyles.

DOA5 is about a generation ahead character model wise than Tekken.

They're fine. You can turn on hit sparks to cover up small things like that.

Don't really care for the bunny swimsuits, but the combo exhibition was awesome.

They really look like they're just from DOAXBV. I'm sure that was one that Kasumi would give out.
To those talking about no sexy costumes for the males, what about Ein and the Handcuffs? lolz

How about you all buy Virtua Fighter 5 Showdown to curb your bikini desires while you wait for Tekken and DOA?? They're the pioneers!

This happens in VF as well- it's just another way of handling things- whereas Tekken has more ambiguous situations. It's a matter of preference.

Tekken also uses hitsparks to hide this problem.

One reason I'm hitting Summer Jam is because I want to judge DOA on its own merits, and that's supposed to be there.
(also they haven't announced anything for VF at MLG and I got sick of waiting)

I wanted poca dots !

Jane Lee looks amazing, love the trousers. Can't wait to see Brad Wong and the new character Mila :D

And I think Im gonna stick with Japanese voices... at least for the ladies ;) I hope it's like SF4 in that you can change language of each character individually.

Um...no. not even close. Why do so many people say DOA4 is terrible? DOA4 is actually a really good game and severely underrated imo. If you want a genuinely bad fighting game, try to play Shadow Warriors on 3DO, Rise of the Robots on 3DO, Time Killers, Kasumi Ninja, Shaq-Fu or Criticom to name a few. The mediocre to average fighters of this generation are still leagues better than many of good fighters of the previous generations.

I thought they were kind of eliminating this stuff to try get some attention and some "credit" that would help people believe it was a more serious fighting game.

DoA and most other fighters that opt for fanservice rare just fine fighters as they are. Remember, this stuff is completely and utterly optional. It's there for those who want it and if you don't completely ignore the existence of it and just play the game.

Not really what I asked. I was referring to whether when the game was announced there were articles implying significantly less titillation because that was an "Itagaki thing".

There were. But Team Ninja isn't completely oblivious on why some love DoA for what it was in the first place. They did make the characters look more realistic. However, I'm glad they came around on the fanservice. It's the icing on some good cake.

I feel that people who keep asking why others say DoA4 is terrible just aren't paying attention when others explain why. It comes up in pretty much every DoA thread.

Although I would definitely disagree that DoA4 is one of the worst fighters ever, it's definitely the worst DoA yet.

She doesn't care about Hayabusa. She has the hots for her brother Hayate.

You're thinking Ayane.

It's easy to forget or ignore since the "problems" with DOA4 mainly concern high level competitive players... most DOA players (or even fighting games players IMO) don't care about stuns, frame advantages etc. They play mainly by reaction/intuition, most never went further than learning the basic controls and a few combos. If you're mainly playing like that (which I do, too), DOA4 is a great game.

Wow that English is pretty bad. Prolly still keep it on English as I don't like putting stuff in languages I don't understand.

Looks hot though.

Both which is still nasty. (Play DOA:D which has a kinda incestuous scenes from both sides)
