Not sure how much interest there is, but I figured I should post as it is apparently a big part of Dead or Alive.

I recall Xcom, Bioshock Infinite and more recently Tropico 5 doing this as well, but their unlocks were a bit more interesting than skins/costumes - which I imagine is what most of the dlc would be anyway. Regardless, it's a bit of extra fun on the side for those interested. I don't see any harm in it, but it is interesting how few devs/pubs actually bother using it

Have they said yet how they'll handle the bonus costumes? Like will this version have all the released DLC for DOA 5 ultimate?

Probably would have pre purchased if MP was in at launch, I'd rather they delayed it and launched it as a complete game

DOA fan base is all about the big parts hyuck

This is certainly in character for them. Actually, juxtapose this with the lack of online play on day one and the PC release is rather symbolic of DOA5 as a whole. Online play - the thing matters most to many - takes a backseat to shallow (and honestly, phoned in) cosmetic DLC. They don't have their priorities straight with this game and they never have.

I love the game and I can't wait for the PS4 version, but it should be said.

Um these costumes are retailer-specific pre-order bonuses for the consoles.

Hahaha! Yeah, I know what you mean... Unfortunately, I never got to play too much of vanilla DOA5, but I did enjoy it. I don't disagree with your take on the practices surrounding the game, however. Let's just hope that it all turns out for the best!

And? I'm well aware, but what does that have to with my post?

The point stands. A steadily growing library of DLC costumes on offer at $2 a piece (all this stuff gets added to the catalog, pre-order bonuses just take a little while) is a bigger priority for them than creating a competent online experience, despite the fact they support their competitive community with tourneys.

For sure! You should get this version. It looks great. I like the game a ton, it's just sad their focus isn't at least more evenly divided.

Yeah, they sure labored over how to distribute the pre-order bonuses that the console counter-parts will be getting; it took like 50 people.

No doubt! I don't see any way around my double-dipping for this title. While a majority of my friends will be playing on PlayStation 4, I have a few who I grew up playing Dead or Alive 2 with every day who will be picking up the PC release. So, looking forward to it! Hoping to get together with some fellow posters, as well!

Ah, I wanted to play you! I'm getting it on PS4, but at $40 to start, I'll probably get the PC version later on in a sale.

I wish there was a way to help unlock the ninja outfits, which are in character for those characters (are weapons Hayabusa's wearing from the NG games? They sure look like it...) without necessarily helping other people to unlock the bikinis, which I really don't care about...

So you want to help get yourself something you want and not help other people get what they want. Sounds like a winning strategy. Why not just go for what you want and don't be bothered but what other people get from it. Because if the other costumes are that big a deal for you the rest of the game might not be your cup of tea.

Pre-ordered. Kinda sad that it shows as "Dead or Alive 5 Last Round" instead of "DEAD OR ALIVE® 5 Last Round", I like my japanese games in all caps.

I already bought DoA5 and DoA5U for the PS3.
I like the games, but dislike that they've come to be known more for their localized physics and bikinis than for their gameplay.
I've made it a point to buy DLC outfits where the character dress reasonably to help make that more economically viable for the publisher.

So, while the game's now on my Steam wishlist, I'm not sure if I want a preorder of mine to be a stepping stone in helping people get bikinis and the like, which I think the game does not need to be fun.
I already game Tecmo-Koei some money for the game and what it's released since the initial version, much of it based on a more tasteful direction where it seemed to be heading early on (the game's initial footage didn't even have girls in it, then the Virtua Fighter crossover reveal, then the Mila trailer, which to me seemed to embody a direction I'd like for the game), and where I'd like to help keep it.

So, I admit to be a bit divided regarding how to handle this - I'll keep my eye on it for now.

lol the AND SAVE 10% after each one makes it seem like they'd take another 10% off each time a tier is reached. If only, 40% off would be a pretty sweet tier reward.

Mila would've been a great model to follow with the other added female characters. I feel like they threw her out there, but people didn't fap themselves blind to her on image boards, so they regressed.

Now the first thing we learn about the newest female is she has the biggest breasts in the series. I guess the audience wants what it wants. *sigh*

I'm not sure which initial footage you are talking about that didn't have girls in it. Whether you preorder or not, those costumes are going to eventually be released for the game. So you can either preorder and get what you want or don't preorder and not worry about it.

It is your money, do what you wish. I just can't wrap my head around your reasoning for doing so.

Eh, I'm pretty sure she got plenty of attention. And your timeline is missing a little in between. They added Marie Rose first and then everyone complained about sexualization of small breasts and made her into a loli to support their rage.

I remember this. The Akira reveal was pretty tame/conservative. Once the initial surprise wore off the following guest reveal threads were considerably shorter. In the end TN has made attempts to appeal to broader audiences without losing their stereotyped audience, but the potential expanded audience doesn't seem to have bitten in sufficient numbers.

I have played DoA since I was 9 with 2 starting on the Dreamcast and I liked it because of the counter system and how fast it moved for a 3D fighter.

I didn't know until I guess 4 (despite playing 3 as well) that, people really did just play it because of the tits. And even then I said "Why not just look at porn?" I didn't get it. I still don't kind of get it. You can just look up porn of the characters in DoA for free.

I pre-ordered without any thought, then felt some regret as I read about the delayed online.

Then again, I'll probably never play online considering how terrible I am and how godlike apparently everyone else is.

Plz pre-order so I get more content.
