Dead Rising 2' at TGS and may not be 360 exclusive

Word is leaking from Capcom today that Dead Rising 2 could be making a brief appearance at TGS later this month.

No word on whether or not this will be on the show floor, or behind closed doors but we’ll be sure to bring you more information on the title as and when we get it. Other information is coming forward claiming that Dead Rising 2 will not in fact be a 360 exclusive like the first title was and may be coming to PS3 as well. This is certainly no surprise with Capcom already having stated earlier this year that they wanted to make the most out of their new IP’s. Could this mean a port of Lost Planet for PS3 too?

For me, the original Dead Rising was the first must have title for the 360 shortly after launch. Only let down by a poorly implemented save system, with a little work in this area DR2 could be yet another must have.

What changes would you like to see in Dead Rising 2? Let us know in the comments section.
In other Capcom news, both Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4 will be on the show floor and almost certainly both playable to some extent.

how many times must we tell you. nothing was wrong with the save system. i had no issues with it. i understood to save often. its like the fov of bioshock. they chose to have that fov for a reason. man thank god i don't make games. would hate to try to make a feel or style of the game only to have forum amateurs complain.

i hope its exactly the same save system as befor.

carry on

DR2 in a modern office skyscraper - different floors, different companies, different themes and good weapon opportunities ie staplers, shredders and anything you can imagine you could tie into a company floor of the building. Maybe some rooftop gardens and outdoor but enclosed parking to break-up the environment from indoors.

Some no-name website says Dead Rising 2 will be present at the Tokyo Game Show (without any source to back it up) and almost everyone bought it? Right...

So does anyone actually have a source for all this stuff apart from some unknown fansite?
Nope.

Wrong. You can reload your last save.

Trying to resist flaming the OP for the comments about the save system...
All I have to say is: It's. Fine. :D

I would love a sequel to DR.

this kinda locale would be perfect

The Minneapolis Skyway System is a pedestrian skywalk system that connects various buildings in Downtown Minneapolis enabling people to walk in a climate controlled environment. The extensive system is renowned, alongside the underground cities of Canadian cold weather cities Toronto and Montreal.

The system forms a network of climate-controlled, pedestrian walkways that link sixty nine full city blocks.

The skyway is a series of passageways which connect the second and third floors of various office towers to hotels, banks, corporate and government offices, restaurants, and retail stores in addition to the Nicollet Mall shopping district, the Block E Entertainment District, the IDS Tower and Foshay Tower, the Target Center, and Minneapolis Convention Center.

Hell yes.

Dead Rising is my favourite game this gen so far.

How will they keep it fresh for another go though? The mall is the ultimate setting, they can't beat that.

CO-OP !!!!

As already mentioned, CO-OP!!!

I would also like to see the zombies get a little faster and maybe a tad more dangerous. I thought they were just so simple in the original.

Also improve the AI of any humans involved. I really, really, really hated some of those escort quests in the first one.

Yeah I hated those people, you were trying your best to lead them and they run STRAIGHT at a zombie scream "FRANK!" "FRANK!" "FRANK!" asswipe :(

Keep the save file system (makes it more challenging), but maybe should drop the timer or keep the timer for time attack!!!! That's was the only issue I had with Dead Rising I didn't had enough time to explore the mall properly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft locked up a "Only on Xbox 360 and Windows" deal, similar to Bioshock. Dead Rising was a BIG seller for the 360.

I didn't mind the stupidity of some people because it did make the game exciting. Also, you could get books that would change their behaviors. Now I'm able to direct them with little issue. I basically point them to go in a direction, then clear a path between the present location and the destination.

What did irritate me was how they couldn't hop up onto the ledge on the rooftops.

If the AI was more competent, I think the game would be too easy as far as rescuing people. That is my concern. I realize how frustrated you were, and I was as well, but if it were any different, it would have been pretty easy.

What I loved about the save system is that you couldn't really undo some of your actions. I remember one time I gave one guy, in a group of survivors, a sledgehammer. He accidentally killed another survivor and I was like, "NoooooooO!", but I thought it was pretty funny in the end. Now, I suppose I could have loaded the last save, and try it all over again, but the way it is set up, is that you'd rather just keep on going and only repeat the game if you are starting from the beginning with your new upgraded stats.

I dunno...I think the save system was near perfection.

the save system is kindof bullshit...although i understand the reason the developers implemented it. but i would advise against it in the sequel if they want more mainstream appeal.

and come on: capcom xbox exclusive? yea right yall. not with ps3 finally out, those days are over.

It wasn't that big but the sales were decent.

Gears of War had great sales, not Dead Rising.

I doubt it. Capcom doesn't seem to be in the mood for making exclusives at the moment, seeing how RE4 got ported several times over.

Now that I actually think about it, this could just be BS to begin with - probably because I posted while in the middle of a game earlier that I didn't dismiss this rumor, but yeah, this unknown site probably just that whole thing up just to get hits...

Especially since MS came directly to Inafune before the 360 was made, to make two brand new exclusive IPs for them, DR and LP respectively, so despite Capcom's multiplatform strategy, I doubt MS left these two IPs so freely up for multiplatform status...

I agree with everything here. I never understood how people had so much trouble with the NPC AI. Was it great? No. But it wasn't that hard to keep them alive if you tried. Just direct them to where you want them to go, and run ahead clearing a path. Ain't that hard. The "follow me" isn't worth a shit, don't use it.

But wasn't there some ass-backward penalty of doing so? And I'm not just talking about the penalty of losing the experience or items gained between your last save. Which is typical and commonplace in most games. But there was more punishment in Dead Rising.

they should rip the simpsons movie, after the first game ends, have buddy whipes come out and realize the perimeter is concealed by a giant dome or something more realistic like a border full of dudes with machine guns, then just have a full town consisting of the same mall, abandoned school, office buildings.

then make the game based on running from place to place a bit more....like maybe you have to get to the top of an office building by the end of the game but to get there you have to make camp in different locations and have sub plots and new survivors etc

just thinking out loud

No, I don't think so. It's exactly as how you state it, any experience progress made since the last save isn't saved.

Seriously, I think it must be a 360/PC multiplatform game. I still can't see how they can port it on PS3.

DR was the first game to use "MT Framework", which Lost Planet uses as well. RE5 and DMC also uses it, and it is a multiplatform engine.

Porting it to the PS3 shouldn't be a difficult task.

Sorry i totally ignored the thread.
I wanted to say that i'm totally for Dead Rising 2 on PS3. Capcom might get my money.

I only need two additions for the sequel.

1. The ability to kill Otis, even if he isn't in the game. Make him an unlockable zombie skin that I can beat the shit out of.

2. Online co-op

Make it so Capcom.

A medieval village / castle could be cool - peasants, taverns, a keep, towers, a moat, dungeons. All kinds of nutso siege scenarios. I'd love to drop a portcullis right the hell on a bunch of zombies. Over and over again.

Unfortunately, while you were using the blowtorch on the door, Otis called and you dropped the torch and set yourself on fire.

GAME OVER.

Okay scratch that then.

4. Sell C4 door breaches at the guns and ammo shop. Hopefully the blast of opening the sealed security room door with the breach will send the door flying into Otis.

I like it :D

-Fix survivor AI. (Some in my group would actually run to cult members.)

And that's it for me. After getting the
real Mega-Blaster
the game was a bit too easy. (Everything, save psychopaths were destroyed in one-hit with the thing. :D

As the systems grow in popularity, moneyhats on proven third party franchises will become cost prohibitive and less common.

Regarding the save system, they should allow everybody three slots since people with one HDD and two memory cards already do get three slots. A save after each boss is a good idea as well, because you can work your ass off on a boss and then get your weakened character killed ten seconds later.

Theme Park

I think the sequel will be in Santa Cabeza(the research facility). A village is much better than the Theme park in terms of items available.

EDIT: Beaten by a mile

Actually your point about the ledges was one of the things that bothered me most. I just lumped it in with the AI issue cause i didn't know what category it fell into. Also i agree about the save system.

I wouldn't want to see much of an improvement with the AI just a little bit. I do get your point though i guess if the game was too easy i would probably be complaining about that.

I think the real reason i hated the escort quests is that that's not really my thing, my fun comes from killing thousands of zombies. Personally if the AI is the same next game it will still be a day 1 purchase and i will still have a ton of fun.

The more important issue for me is the zombies themselves. As i already said i would like to see them become a little bit harder. Maybe even have a hard mode where the zombies move extra fast or something.

I won't be surprised when this game is announced to be multiplatform. There was never any kid of exclusivity for Dead Rising or Lost Planet, just a lack of competition in the console space. Capcom stands to make much more money by releasing it on both the PS3 and 360.

online would be a blast!!

Co-op
CTF
Deathmatch
Team deathmatch
capture objective/base
Survival

...all with zombies of course!

I think clever (read: almost sadistic) level / environment design would be a better way to fiddle with the degree of difficulty than changing the abilities of the zombies - or it should at least be the option they take first.

Why would Sega stamp 'Only on XBox 360' on the box and put 'Powered By Xbox 360' in the credits of every Lost Planet trailer if there were no deal?

You made the first claim, that there was no deal. What is your source?
