Deadly Premonition Director's Cut PS3 officially announced

Not many people are mentioning the music. The music in this game, added to the characters, atmosphere, and story, are what made this game great. Day 1 for me.

oh rad. i got a bit of the way through the xbox version but it's not convenient for to play 360. so I'll actually be able to finish it this way!

I liked it too, but I find it almost funny how it's handled in the game. There are scenes in the game where the music for some reason is a lot louder than the game's audio, and even though the game has 40+ tracks they for some reason use 3-4 of the tracks continuously through the game. But i do agree it really did add to the game.

The music really does add to the experience and I find a lot of it is actually pretty good. They have everything from Twin Peaks inspired music, more jazzy type tunes, the occasional catchy outlier song, and more sad and beautiful melodies.

They reuse the same tunes over and over again because Twin Peaks did the same thing. Twin Peaks played the same three "themes" in almost every episode and even had slight variations on those themes.

There were a few themes in Twin Peaks I know played a lot (Laura Palmer's theme being the one I immediately notice), but actually it was less the same theme being used over and over again rather than variations. They had a ton of versions of almost each different theme in Twin Peaks. But that could likely be a nod to how they did it in Twin Peaks, though it didn't bother me in either occurrence as once again, I actually liked the music in both Deadly Premonition and Twin Peaks and thought they really added to the charm.

I really need to watch Twin Peaks

You should. The game did take a lot from Twin Peaks, but besides the basic premise being similar they actually are quite different and the stories go in completely different directions. However, if you enjoyed Deadly Premonition you most likely will love Twin Peaks, and visa versa.

The joke has gone too far now that this awful, awful game is getting re-released with a director's cut.

No joke here. I genuinely love how bizarre and goofy the story and town are. And the game made me finally watch Twin Peaks, which made me appreciate it even more. Yeah, the game mechanics are busted half the time, but I genuinely love the full experience.

And if you want to hate on a sweet, fun man like Swery, you've officially made an enemy out of me. You can go straight to Hell if you wanna start beef with that awesome guy.

Will buy day 1. Will double dip if he gets his wishes of a PC release.

I want this on 360 :(

Also KEEP THE DRIVING CONTROLS.

You can't be serious.

But honestly I don't really care as long as THEY FIX THE FUCKING MAP. I played a lot of games with awful maps but DP takes the cake.

I was thinking that also. 360 is 720P and the PS3 is 1080P.

I assume he means that they want the game to look at least like a PS2 game and not a PS1 one.

Deadly Premonition director, Hidetaka “SWERY” Suehiro, has updated his blog with more information on the upcoming Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut for PlayStation 3.

Suehiro says that Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut will feature over 100 improvements. Some of these we reported yesterday—updated HD visuals, updated controls, new story content, and post-game DLC.

In addition to these, Suehiro says, PlayStation Move support has been included as well and he hints at the possibility of 3D support, too.

“In any case, we tried to create this Director’s Cut in such a way that the appearance of the game world would be maintained, while also being accessible to newcomers and old fans,” Suehiro writes.

“I’ve been especially picky about pouring the thoughts and feelings I’ve experienced since the release of the original into this game in such a way that it really makes you feel that 2 years have passed since then. I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether I succeeded or failed.”

I am intrigued still by the changes. They have made it very clear that one of the biggest things they are changing, or at least what they're mainly focusing on right now, is improving graphics and controls. But there have been hints at bigger changes, with the mention of changes to the opening and ending, a new story scenario and more coming in the future in DLC, and the possibility of buying a house.

With a hundred changes, it'll be interesting to see what all is involved. Hope they maybe add some more enemies and improve the ones in place.
And make Wall Crawlers less annoying.

Those god damn wall crawlers almost made me rage quit the game. I had to use my pistol and machine gun to beat them. This was during the time where I had to fight three of them in a row. After that, I always brought a shotgun with me.

Deadly Premonition was the ultimate “love it or hate it” game back in 2010, to the extent that it currently holds a Guinness World Record for “Most Critically Polarizing Survival-Horror Game, and the game continues to see the tremendous support from fans all over the world.

Wow, I want to get that book just to see how bad the "records" are. Do companies pay for this shit?

I don't understand why people like this game. The voice acting was bad, gameplay was janky and visuals are bad.

What am I missing?

Highly quirky (but for the most part likeable) characters; loving nods to old music, movies and TV shows; a sophisticated schedule system for townspeople; a fairly crazy, but still heartfelt storyline; the charm of a real "B" game, one that chooses eccentricity over excessive production values; and plenty of infinite weapons to help you through the janky RE4-style gameplay.

As Dusk Golem says, it's an experience game. The gameplay of something like Silent Hill 2, for instance, is not necessarily something to write home about, but the characters, story, mythology, atmosphere, themes and world-building create an interactive experience that can't be truly replicated elsewhere. The same is true, albeit in a different way, for Deadly Premonition.

It's just as valuable to Guinness to stay relevant to the modern public just as it is for the products or companies they highlight. Yes, it is basically fabricated bullshit that likely got them some financial consideration somewhere in the pipeline, but then most records they kept track of well before now didn't mean shit to most people, anyway.

I wish I had the video on hand that shows how you can kill them in 2-3 hits on Hard difficulty, and one-shot them on Normal.

I got DP expecting to laugh at a shitty game, but I genuinely had fun with it. I mean, the shooting segments are pretty bad and that QTE sequence at the end is REALLY bad but that doesn't invalidate how much I loved going around the town doing detectivey stuff. I'm glad I never found the fast travel thing because driving everywhere and learning the layout of the town (because the map is useless) added so much to the experience.

And of course the story, music and characters are all incredibly memorable.

Fucking YES!! Great news. :D

Like people are saying, watch Twin Peaks before playing this. Pretty sure it's still on Netflix instant.

It's a great show. It's not all that similar to Deadly Premonition though.

It's a lot similar.

Crying, jazz singing, red curtains, coffee, rooms in dreams, a giant hotel, clues under fingernails, talking to a disembodied voice, etc.

Back when it was Rainy Woods, I seem to recall the entire thing was just based on Twin Peaks with no significant changes.

After completing Twin Peaks this weekend, I am going to pick up the Director's Cut when it comes out. I didn't do any of the side quests when I originally played this game, but I'll make sure to complete those quests during my replay.

You are bringing back so many fond memories. Mmmmmmm.

Nice, I'll probably pick this up. Heard good things. Reminds me that I need to watch the 2nd season of Twin Peaks still, too.
