"give fox the rights bak!"

The trailer didn't really hit home with me but I've heard the humor isn't so random. Now I'm not really dreading it for when I get dragged along to go see it.

I'm hyped.

No, they shouldn't, I just made that post because I saw people getting excited because this guy gave it the same score as Mad Max! and this film is not on the same level in any way.
Those sorts of expectations won't do it any favours.

I watched the review and he said that Deadpool isn't any sort of cinemeatic masterpiece but it succeeds at what it does. What more do you want?

21 reveiews are up on Rotten Tomatoes, and Deadpool is sitting at 100% with a 7.8/10 average. Should stay above 80% with that start.

Is it just me or do none of the quotes in the OP actually say if the movie is good....

It's a good movie, but really falls short in many areas

But it excels at what it's trying to do.

It's Deadpool's show and everyone else is along for the ride.

Good. Set up his universe with this movie and then the sequels can go all batshit crazy. I can't wait to see the movie.

I mean I'll probably go see it.

I was more looking to see if it's just a bunch of shitty 'lol so random' humor or if it's solid

I don't know, guys, it sits at 100% at Rotten Tomatoes but a 65 on Metacritic. Both aggregators are flawed but at least Metacritic is an average of scores rather than a general consensus of "Shit" or "Not Shit." If every critic thought it was a C+ movie it would still be 100%. I would prefer some critics gave it an A and others an F. Universal mediocrity isn't something we should aspire to.

I've never thought the spawn of Liefeld was funny in any comics or games or movies. On the other hand, I love T.J. Miller. I'm torn...

EDIT: For the record, when it comes to Marvel films, I'm not always one to agree with popular opinion. While I enjoyed the first Iron Man, Avengers 1 and both Captain Americas (for different reasons), I found Avengers 2 to be uneven and sloggish and the rest of the Marvel films to be pretty shit (even though I've seen them all). And yes, I'm including Guardians of the Galaxy. That movie is ridiculously over-rated. Soooo many problems in that film.

At this point I dont think any Marvel property ( even though the movie license belongs to Fox ) is capable of putting out any decent villain.

Anyways hope this is funny. Having a strong villain is not a necessity for this movie.
To be fair, Deadpool doesn't necessarily have a traditional arch nemesis (there is T-Ray, if you REALLY want to push it), as it's more about how everyone that interacts with him trying their best to either tolerate him, or to not strangle him. Domino in particular hates his guts, but she likes to use Deadpool as a decoy whenever she is forced to bring Wade on a mission.

I like the RT system. Metacritic polls 1/5th-1/10th the critics, and has arbitrary weighting on reviews from various sources. Also, when deciding to go to a film or not, a consensus of "Shit " vs "Not Shit" is more useful than trying to compare random personal rating scales of various critics. RT lets critics decide if borderline scores (your C+) are rotten or fresh. Metacritic makes the decisions themselves.

Plus, RT does have an average if that sort of thing is something you want to see. Deadpool's average is 7.8/10 at the moment.

None of the Deadpool trailers have sold me at all, but I desperately want this to succeed so Reynolds can have a hit for once. Seems like it's going to.

So so so glad this movie turned out so awesome. i'm just in awe it even got MADE in the first place god damn. 4 years ago when i first read the leaked script i thought it was the greatest thing ever and was bummed it would probably never get made. Even with how hard Reynolds had been pushing for it as a fan of the character and his desire to truly do this character right. And here we are, looks like he did just that. Hyped for thursday

anyways, here's my favorite pull quote of the night, from Polygon's review

Now I know how to get my girlfriend to see this on Valentine's Day.

"Finally a movie for 15 year old boys"
I’m not quite sure who Deadpool is for. I've narrowed it down to two demographics: is it for teens and 20somethings who hang out on Reddit all day, who endlessly riff on each other’s posts like the Judd Apatow ensemble with brain damage, or is it for 30something guys in cargo shorts who post about bacon on Fark? I think it could be for both, and for any white male who spends a lot of time online and believes cheap dick jokes are the edgiest form of comedy.

This is one of those movies I dread putting on Rotten Tomatoes, which doesn’t allow a nuanced opinion - you loved it or you hated it! I liked Deadpool better than I thought I would, but that was a pretty low bar. In the end I respect Deadpool more than I like it - it sticks to its guns, it creates a kind of obnoxious superhero movie we have never seen before, and even though it can’t sustain its tone it can sustain its attitude. I like the ways the movie breaks the fourth wall, moments that remain unusual in multiplex movie-making. It’s completely juvenile, but how can you hold that against the film when that’s the whole point?

Oh yes, hype rising. I will see it at least twice this week and I'm pumped! These seemingly good reviews bode well.

Time to go see how much my 9.2 CGC New Mutants 98 is doing on ebay...

It was an extremely boring film. The praise it gets is baffling.

Even though I completely disagree with you, I do actually understand (a bit) where you are coming from. I assume it is because it is nearly non-stop action?

My brother couldn't get into it at all. Only Feriosa was an interesting character (I guess so was that sidekick guy but he barely got developed). Mad Max was...good as the silent moody character, but I will be surprised if Deadpool is more one note than him.

And of course we both agreed that the cinematography was GOD like. Amazing! And the stuntwork! Wow! However, I would argue that if you were planning to watch a pure ACTION movie, even more pure than say Die Hard, then you will love it. A classic in the ACTION genre.

But hearing it compared to like the Godfather? I admit, it does surprise me. I would say Mad Max is to action in what (IMO) Captain America Winter Soldier is to Superhero films. A classic in the genre. So hearing Mad Max up there, I am confused why films like Titanic (Romance) and CA isn't up there as well.

So if you were expecting something else, then I completely understand if you didn't like the film at all.

I can't believe Faraci didn't like it.

He still says he's giving it a "Fresh" on RT.

So I’ll give the movie a fresh (now this review is getting as meta as the movie) because it’s being so true to itself. Sure, it’s about as shocking as a middle schooler giving his teacher the finger, but there’s something adorable about that kind of juvenile nonsense. And while Deadpool’s flood of bad language and violence makes it too ‘adult’ for kids, it’s nice to see a comic book movie that embraces SOMETHING juvenile.

Yeah, the multitude of adoring critics and almost universal audience approval is baffling. It's everyone else who's wrong, not you.

I loooooooved Fury Road, but just because a movie has a multitude of adoring critics and almost universal audience approval doesn't mean it's good.

A few random shitty movies that won Best Picture:

Titanic
Shakespeare in Love
Crash
Chicago

I have no interest in watching it at the cinema, but I hope it's at least a fun movie. The marketing has actually gotten a couple of friends of mine interested and they had no idea who Deadpool was prior to this movie.

I really don't see how this book is so valuable. They printed almost a million copies. Just waiting for the bubble to burst (not like I want it to, I have a 9.8, 8.5, and 2 raw copies).

Hell, any Comic with DP in it is crazy at the moment. I was going to start buying the Kelly run but said the hell with it and just bought the omnibus.
