lots of other fans hated it too..

Just like Star Wars, Deadpool base on the reviews seem to adhere to the source material and multiple people are going to expect a film that meet their warp expectations that has nothing to do with how good the film actually is.

So yeah, fans hate it and that's why it is the highest grossing film domestically in the US.

Time to go buy em Deadpool tickets.

Excited this movie has happened. A real Deadpool movie going to be great. Deadpool blowing up huge might be a curse in the future but for now I will enjoy it.

I have a feeling if Deadpool gets huge his character will get PG-13'd to appeal to the masses in the future.

Here's the weird thing about this line of discussion, which has been brought up ever since the movie was actually rescued from oblivion:

The best versions of the character have always been PG-13. The most annoying, limited, and off-putting versions of the character are R.

This movie might end up being miraculous not because it's an irreverent, fourth-wall breaking superhero film, but because it took the latter version of Deadpool and made him enjoyable like the former. That doesn't happen very much.

The idea that Deadpool needs to be Rated R in order to work well is basically just bullshit.

I've been a fan of Reynolds for a long time. I'm surprised he hasn't really blown up. He deserves to be a bigger star than he is. He has been in some really shitty movies though.

he has an incredibly likable personality and is funny in interviews. arguably moreso than the usuals like chris pratt, sandra bullock etc.

but almost all of his filmography consists of horseshit. i haven't seen mississippi grind yet but aside from that this looks like his most tolerable movie in at least 10 years lol. that kind of hampers your ability to become a star.

Thats an opinion that isnt shared by a mjority of Deadpool fans. To work well he absolutely needs to be out of PG13 territory. Otherwise he is essentially Spiderman with the ability to break the fourth wall

That's a surprise, I didn't expect good reviews at all. The try hard trailers turned me off. "Did I forget to turn off the oven?" *Cringe*

Reading this post made me *Cringe*

He gets type casted hard. I think he can do drama very well. You should watch buried

1) I don't know if that's necessarily true.
2) A majority of people who like terrible shit doesn't make that shit less terrible.

There's a bunch of people on this forum who think Transformers: The Movie is a good film, too, for example.

Any film with a soundtrack with Stan Bush and Weird Al is a good film.

Nah man, it isn't.

Something doesn't have to be good for people to like it, though.

There's a thread here about people pre-ordering cheese-wrapped elephant shit in a rubber diaper from Taco Hell for tomorrow.

Awesome start. That Slant quote really sums up the character, too. If that's what the film gets across, that's a success all its own.

Not hyping myself and watching it with low hopes, so I can leave satisfied.

Still I'm happy to hear about its good reception.

That's why they've been saving Thanos for like 5 years now and will keep doing it for another 2 years and then stretch it off with Avengers: Infinity War part 2 for another year.

Thanos won't even show up in the first part.

The movie will take place in a Starbucks as the Avengers are getting their order, but Thanos' lackey, Starbucks Employee, will keep calling the wrong name.

So so so glad this movie turned out so awesome. i'm just in awe it even got MADE in the first place god damn. 4 years ago when i first read the leaked script i thought it was the greatest thing ever and was bummed it would probably never get made. Even with how hard Reynolds had been pushing for it as a fan of the character and his desire to truly do this character right. And here we are, looks like he did just that. Hyped for thursday

anyways, here's my favorite pull quote of the night, from Polygon's review

They've stretched it so much (including the 2 parter) that it'd feel like Infinity War is the final Marvel movie...when we all know that won't be the case.

This thread is gonna be a disaster. I really hope no one derails this thread about the awesomeness of the Deadpool!

I'm curious what you think the best versions of Deadpool are for you to believe that he works best in that pg 13 realm.

Good looking, funny, great personality, and he's a good actor.

Yeah, he's been in some trash but I thought he was great in Buried. I liked him in Adventureland also, though it was a pretty small role. Waiting is one of my favorite comedies from the 2,000's.

Maybe this is the role to set him over the top.

like 99% of Deadpool comics ever published have been pg-13. Marvel comics generally don't allow cursing and nudity if they aren't Marvel Max or Marvel Knights.

Hell, the original Joe Kelly ones were comics code compliant.

Here's an Omnibus for you

Here's another.

And then there's Duggan's run.

I mean, that's not a small amount of product there. That's a lot of words, a lot of pictures, a lot of one-liners and punchlines. Not a lot of R-Rated bullshit up in there.

Again, if this movie manages to be R-Rated Deadpool that's absolutely worth watching, and enjoyable as well, then it'll be one of the exceptions to the R-rated Deadpool rule. If anything, I've found that in my experience most people who profess a necessity for Deadpool to exist in the R-Rated realm aren't very familiar with the character, and likely haven't read too many of his comics.

maybe they played the game, I dunno.

Nice reviews getting really excited....

...well, excitement destroyed. :(

As a fairly large Deadpool fan, I read the script for this years ago, and wrote it off as too faithful to ever happen.

I basically can't believe we have a semi-low budget hard R deadpool coming. I still can't believe it, really.
