Deathloop is a superb game...why do people want it to be bad so bad?

Ever since Deathloop was revealed people have been seemingly wishing it was bad. After it released to critical appeal people seemingly stuck to their guns claiming it's bad or undeserving of praise. Why do people want to dislike this game so much? It has some of the best level design of all time and a really fun gameplay loop where you can play it for 15 minutes or 5 hours.
 
Don't know why ( unless fanboying) but when it is available for all consoles, we will start seeing articles, forums saying " wow this game is actually good" and the down playing will be forgotten.
 
Don't get it either, I'm super excited to try it now the tech issues are fixed on PC. Gives me Hitman vibes from what I've watched and heard, but like a hardcore mode Hitman. Sounds fun.
 
Like i said in another topic, it's arkane worst game from the past 15 years maybe, but still a good to great game.

Story was onestly even worse than dishonored, and the level of challenge was too low.

Colt was a cool protagonist tho, superb VA, the chick was kinda unsufferable.

The level design was the usual unbeatable tier that you can expect from arkane.

No, you will actually see lots of people who don't like it anymore after a year or so.
 
I've platinumed it, and while it's enjoyable, I don't consider it superb and way worse than Dishonored. Only memorable characters are Colt and Johanna, story is okish and gameplay is nothing worthy of the praise it got.

Xbox fans want it to be bad since they can't play it.

Playstation fans want it to be bad since it's a Xbox Game Studio game and a sequel won't arrive on Playstation.
 
Nah. It's terrible. I normally finish my games but that ai is probably the stupid I've seen. In fact you can't go a all 5min without something stupid to happen

Funny thing is, I think there are more ps fans than xbox fans trying to downplay that the game is any good. Kinda weird since it's a ps exclusive for now, it's almost as if they wish the game to be bad only because Microsoft own arkane now. For the record haven't played the yet, so can't comment if it's actually good or not

It was good, not great. The idea and setting are awesome, but the interweaving quest paths have limited outcomes which sours the potential. The PvP aspect is the weakest element, it should have just been a second campaign.

Prey is still Arkane's best.
 
It is an OK game. Not great, not terrible.

Weak by Arkane's standards though.

I regret buying it full priced due to my trust in Arkane. Should have waited for it to be 20 bucks.

I don't give a flying fuck about your cute little console wars. Played it on PC maxed out at 60fps.

Don't forget that people weren't generally fond of Prey/Dishonored 2 either. Arkane games are tough sell for CoD crowd. I have it on PC and let's say it's sort of lacking, especially with AI and those loops, it feels like expanded DLC for Prey.However it has killer aesthetic, VA, etc...
 
probably because of mediocre graphics and tidious advertising, was showing everytime on sony presentation when people were expecting gow2 or mgs remake etc
 
Today's patch included fov and motion blur settings on PS5, and enhanced the ai awareness. Anyone that dropped it because of those things may want to give it another go

Did you play or finish it? If yes, did you play Prey or Dishonored series? Compared to those Deathloop is 10 steps below and Prey got a 5 from IGN while doing pretty much everything better. YOu could argue they gave it due to perf issues on PC but Deathloop was unplayable on PC at launch due to mouse aim stutters and u had to use a controller and the pefroamnce is still pretty bad even post patch. The AI is far much worse than Dishonored and Prey, the level design holds no candle to Dishonored 2's top missions like Clockwork mansion and the only thing you could argue is the story stuff/characters but pandering and inflating the score due to poc is very shitty.

Prob bitterness from both sides, Sony fans upset that its a MS studio game and another wont come tot he system and MS fans upset their studio made a PS5 console exclusive.

Prey was superb, Deathloop was okay. I had fun with it but once you figure it out, it loses luster. I think it was mostly the dumb ai

I would have had more fun if enemy ai was varied. Keep some dumb, they are on drugs after all, and others should be smarter. Hell some should remember between loops
 
The time loop was nice but the gameplay and AI was a bit below average. Still liked it, just not a 9/10 game in my opinion, more like a 8/10.

Voice acting is unmatched though.
 
They do? I don't feel strongly about the game personally. It was OK, kind of enjoyable but nothing special. Not so great AI and rather bad stealth hurt the experience for me, as did the dated graphics. But it was fun for a while!

I thought it was mediocre, really didn't excel in any of the aspects neither was a terrible game. Prey and Dishonored series by far better and more memorable games.

I haven't completed it yet but starting it directly after finishing Prey I can safely say that for me, Prey was the better game. I played the rest of the Arkane catalog and also enjoyed those more. The level design was a bit better in their older titles and the gameplay options were more varied from the get go. I can appreciate their creative time loop design but it does come with it's drawbacks. Any time you have a rogue like mechanic of losing everything and going through the same areas you've been to before, you are automatically not going to appeal to everyone. Returnal had the same problem despite being a great game by most accounts.

I also think some of the hate, if you can even call it that, is that the game was probably a little bit overrated by critics in my opinion. I like to look at aggregate user scores on sites like howlongtobeat and talking to others and the general sentiment I am getting is that it is on par or maybe a hair below the rest of the Arkane catalog which I have to agree with.

So yeah those two things, some PC performance issues on launch, and a touch of fanboyism and trolling is a recipe for some hate.
 
I'm reserving judgement until I can play it when it comes to Xbox. As for Arkane's games I've really only played Dishonored 1 and Prey. Dishonored was pretty good, but not my favorite thing ever. Prey was really good, but could've been shorter as it kinda overstays it's welcome and gets old after a while.

From what I read Deathloop is closer to Dishonored than Prey, so when I do play it I may not have high expectations of loving it. Arcane make good games, but none have really "clicked", with me personally yet.
 
Right now it is my second GOTY choice... so it is indeed better than superb.
Returnal is first.

For me it was the A.I. I was considering picking it up but after I saw those videos of the A.I I was hard out on that game. No idea how that gets so many great reviews.

You're full of shit. This game didn't get good scores bc of pandering. They were genuinely good characters. Some Gaffers really need to get their head out of their assholes

You're fucking naive if you think otherwise. I never said they were bad characters though and its the only opinion I may be swayed by when someone says they liked the game but that is it because everything else is absolute mediocrity and I will even go as far and say that's a fucking fact, at least compared to Prey or Dishonored 2.

I have nothing against the game itself. My beef is with the marketing. They're hyping it up to be next big thing when in reality it's just Dishonered with guns.
 
it barely ran on my 5900x/rtx3090 so I refunded it. I honestly wasnt very impressed with the couple of hours I played.
 
I haven't really seen the negativity OP is describing. Maybe before release there was some naysaying, but from my experience the reaction was quite positive after people actually played the game.
 
You could feel the fanboys in turmoil in every thread.

The blue rats wanted to brag about it, but they knew that a sequel was never going to grace their console.

The green rats wanted to say that it looked bad, but couldn't because it was from a 1st party studio and the franchise (should it become one) will be on their console.

It has been amusing to say the least
