DeathSpank To Continue On With "T.O.V"?

Way back in March 2009 rebounded game designer Ron Gilbert revealed that the previously episodic DeathSpank was no longer going to be episodic. A year and a half later, that may no longer be the case.

French achievement website Succes Full has found itself with a new achievement list for a game titled DeathSpank: T.O.V. The list consists entirely of new quest lines, such as learning Japanese, getting an Engineering Degree and killing Santa Claus -- all which I believe was not in the original.

The only achievement that has any resemblance to the original is "A True Hero", which uses the same icon as "Mr. Tough Guy" in the original game, and both require you to get to Level 20. As there are 12 achieveements these aren't for downloadable content, but for a full game.

It's difficult to determine what this list might entail -- perhaps the achievements are from a build before it became the one title, but a lot has changed since the quote from Rob -- he's since left Hothead Games and EA are now publishing the game for them. DeathSpank has done quite well for the group in its month of sales, so maybe the episodic plans are back on.

That would be pretty great. I actually really enjoyed Deathspank.

One of the rare 100% games I have as far as achievements go. I really enjoyed Deathspank and have been hoping for more since I completed it. Bring that shit! I felt as if it could continue into a lot more than what it offered. I completed the story and every side quest available. I need more!

I mostly really liked Deathspank, except for the health/food system seeming out of whack.

It definitely was out of whack. You're supposed to use the blocking more often, but bosses pretty much require that you use invincible potions.

I made it through the whole game without using any potions whatsoever.

You might be in the minority. A LOT of people complained about the health system in the game.

I had a hard time getting used to the health system, especially since I don't play many RPG's. But making it through the entire game without any potions seems crazy. I was chugging health potions like no other. I played on normal by the way. I did however make it through the entire game without experimenting with many of the abilities. I must have used only 2 or 3 of the justice meter moves, like the Ice storm thing and the fire spinning attack. They helped a lot.

Well, perhaps I should amend my original statement. I did use health potions, but never any stat-altering potions like the invincibility potions.

That said, I didn't even consume that many health potions (I pretty much stopped using them after getting the achievement for using them). Instead, I relied on food to keep myself alive.

The only part in the game where I had difficulty was the burned-down village that was infested with...ogres (?). To get past there, though, I just had to do a little grinding. It was at this point in the game where I also had to learn how to effectively block. After that path, though, it was smooth sailing through the rest of the game.

I forget where I was when I stopped, but i seem to remember hitting a wall where I either didn't want to grind or couldn't keep enough food.

Day one! Enjoyed the first game even with its low replay value. Would love if there was online co-op though, I don't have anyone to play local with. :(

So did I, and my friend did as well.

EDIT: Oh, health potions... forgot about those. Yeah I definitely used a bunch of those. I did get the achievement for drinking 50 potions after all.

That would be awesome. I've been saving the last boss fight just because I don't want the game to be over. I really enjoyed it.

As to potions, I pretty much only used them because I wanted the trophy.

Day 1. Really enjoyed the first one.

My personal wishes for the sequel

  • Randomly generated loot (at least allow some +1/+2 etc. modifiers to the pre-made armour sets to increase variety).
  • Co-op mode expanded so both players have their own inventory.

I actually liked the two-tiered health system. Food which dropped plenty and slowly generated health over time OR instantly working potions which were a bit rarer. Just one more element of strategy complementing the combat system. Now granted, after a couple hours into the game the economy was totally broken so you could just stock up on potions whenever, but still.

But... but... I haven't even finished the first one!

Edit: T.O.V.? Tales of Vesperia?
lol

Yes. I needed to abuse the blocking and lure them away to defeat them one at a time. They did so much damage with every hit.

really thinking of getting this or Limbo

really like the demo. I'm just not sure about the length and repetitive of side-quest

So apparently Thongs of Virtue was developed concurrently to Deathspank, since it's coming out Sept. 21/22.

You did the writing for that as well, Sqorgar?
