Debt Ceiling Deal (OT) BOHICA

We're fucked. I'm seriously planning to move within the next decade. If not Canada, maybe Britain. Unless they're fucked too. Damn there's nowhere to run.

The American political system no longer works. The constitution didn't anticipate 50 states and 100 goddamn senators all beholden to their own local, corporate, and personal interests. It's a giant clusterfuck.

Should't there be some stuff like links to news articles and such?

The government really just needs to stop trying to have their cake and eat it too. If they are really having such problem cutting spending, have the balls to just raise taxes. Social Security and Medicare are really eating up a huge part of our budget, and the Military is still far to high. Proper health care reform (Which should focus on driving down medical costs) should help cut the expenses of Medicare.

Yup just have to tough it out and hope for the best, or VIVA LA REVOLUTION!
But for real what the fuck cant the big wigs figure this out without fucking over the little guy.
I get so depressed because i have 50 more years to live and i feel some of my prime will be in this shit hole of the U.S.

do both. Cut some spending, raise taxes on the wealthy. the moderate approach to sensible debt relieve. Of course, the republican tax zealots will never go along with it.

vince cable, UK business secretary:
The irony of the situation at the moment, with markets opening tomorrow morning, is that the biggest threat to the world financial system comes from a few rightwing nutters in the American Congress rather than the eurozone.

UK is just as fucked, if not more.

You guys need to pressure your elected officials into accepting this shit, it's going to have worldwide implications if the US is downgraded...with the UK being one of those most affected.

:/

I haven't been keeping up with the debt dealing as much as I should. I just figured that they'd come to an agreement in the nick of time, but now, ugh. I am not looking forward to the economic apocalypse.

Wow, that pretty much summed up both parties views.

There will be a deal. It will wind up being like the one Boehner walked away from. It's just that they have 10 more days of rhetoric to get through.

My dude Vince Cable aka British Minister Secretary of State for Business said it best,

The irony of the situation at the moment, with markets opening tomorrow morning, is that the biggest threat to the world financial system comes from a few right-wing nutters in the American congress rather than the euro zone

This is the only link I could find on what the OP is talking about.

I can't wait for the Asian markets to open tomorrow. It's time for people to see just what this fanatical bullshit is doing to the global economy. Boehner honestly thinks throwing together a proposal in the next few hours is going to magically reassure the markets. A deal should have been reached last week.

We're getting close to a point where Obama should simply dare republicans to crash the global economy. They've rejected everything, it's time to give them nothing. They aren't going to let the country default, you can write it down.

The Tea-Party Republicans would absolutely let it happen.

This whole situation is absolutely surreal. We have one party that's willing to destroy the entire world economy for their retarded flat earther ideology. We have NEVER had a situation in the past where any political party held the debt ceiling hostage. And there was a REASON for that: because everything would go to hell.

This shit is economic terrorism, and it's fucking disgusting to see the GOP not get called out on it by the mainstream media for such.

Germany, UAE, Brazil, S. Korea, China*, India*.

All seem to be pretty safe options for future stability. Give or take.

*I probably wouldn't.

The Tea-Party GOP are hellbent on the "my-way-or-nothing" approach. Obama gives them 95% of what they want and they still rejected it. If they don't get 100% of what they want, they are more than willing to crash the nation's weak economy, potentially sending us into a full blown depression.

I was trolled by OP. Title made me think a deal had been reached. My mother is disabled and she needs that social security check. She worked for 30 years of her life and to think that political pissing contests have reduced her to tears fearing for her future ticks me off to no end.

Now even close, UK has already brought in a lot austerity measures and has credit ratings confirmed recently as AAA, financials are also moving in the right direction now with debt burden on path for reducing. I believe its expected to be 2015 before the debt starts to be reduced but at least things are underway.

So far the US solution to the problem is to keep raising the line where they have to say 'yeah we are in a shit-ton of debt' the stratergy at the moment is to keep raising the line and deny everything. what is it at now 15 trillion? The US owes $46,000 per head, the UK is $24,000. Several thousand of which can be instantly made up by various means from EU contributions to financial relief on funds given to IMF for other countries as the UK has contributed so many billions to other countries debt relief.

The next step is stop cameron giving aways millions every hour to every other country on the damn planet, charity begins at home, not by giving a multi billion train contract to the germans or a billion to pakistan as just a donation.

Of those, Brazil might actually be most attractive to me. Until the next time I rewatch City of God, at least.

Can anyone comment on the financial stability of New Zealand?

Good to hear. If there's one thing that Britain has over the US, it's a political system that actually produces results. For good or for ill. None of this deadlocked bullshit.

The Republicans just can't live with their own success. Obama was offering more in spending cuts than Bush, Clinton, or Reagan. It would be fitting if Obama merely ignored the debt ceiling and rendered it unconstitutional, and then the Republicans realize that they got absolutely nothing out of it. They really do deserve it.

Bohener can't control his House members and has said so on more than 1 occasion.

Tea Party republicans and their supporters would call that bluff, man. They don't give a fuck about reality; they can't see the forest for the tree they call their "principles" and that myopia would be the destruction of us all if left to its own devices.

Some men aren't looking for anything logical. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Well, the population goes for it every time. So...

The collective lack of action that voters take when it comes to politics means that the government we have now isn't the one we need, but likely the one we deserve.

While I can't comment on the finances, I can say that there's a pretty good, low population density, a long growing season if you wish to grow some of your own food, etc. It'd be a good bug-out location. It's a very rural country, and immigration policy is tailor toward filling skilled professional needs.

Needless to say, I've considered it. This forum might help..

Which he will be forced to do, I think. No way someone doesn't step in and fix this shit at some point.

I lovehow the Republicans, who voted to raise the debt ceiling under Bush over 7 times, have turned a non-issue into the end of the friggin' world.

Awww that's cute. You think politicians actually listen to the people that they "represent".

I really hope this gets worked out, and maybe I've been pushed to the edge, but I'm ready to sacrifice the poors now. You won, Republicans. You broke me. Just fix it.

Maybe now, after I have a Master's and some work experience, things will be different, but some NZ'ers I met during that time basically said for me to forget about it.

If anyone needed a reminder that YOUR VOTE MATTERS, our generation will never need another example than the Tea Party. Unilaterally dismissed as looney toons when their presence was revealed, they were not taken seriously even up to the 2010 elections. They voted. The rational stayed home. Now we stand on the brink and it's the Tea Party that was dismissed early calling shots and shaping the political agenda of arguably the biggest political party in the US.

If people still need motivation to vote after this, something is terribly wrong.

It's part of Pacific Asia so it's in the right economic region. I think this is my new Plan B in case the UK goes under.

It's really sad. The Republicans have hinged everything on being entirely uncompromising. Their demands are that they get exactly what they want and nothing less.

If this does go down the tubes, I really hope that the Republicans are punished for turning down offers that went well beyond meeting them halfway.

Only if the Dems advertise/explain that this is what happened. The Reps are FUCKING great at spin.

I think that Slavoj Zizek wrote it is easier to watch a system fail than it is to make meaningful change. Maybe the Tea Party reads Zizek without the irony.
