#DEFLATEGATE: Goodell never had any balls

Why should we give the Pats the benefit of the doubt? They have a record, a history of shady activity.

That's fine, but it is baseless at this point until we find out more information.

And if they get caught with subterfuge then they did cheat. But this cheating is not comparable to pine tar.

I've yet to read the previous pages but EASTC0AST_GH05T, are you condoning cheating as an acceptable way to gain an advantage so long as you don't get caught?

I mean, from a strategic viewpoint it is a handy method but it is incredibly dishonest. One of the reasons why I stopped watching soccer was because of its "accepted" tolerance to players fake diving in the box to "gain an advantage" by getting a penalty. Sure, it's fair game if the ref believed it and your team ends up getting that needed goal to win but it's more of a dishonest win than a victory based on acheivement.
everyone has there own idea on whats cheating and whats not. I am stating that being a fan of the NFL I have seen many allegations and none of the allegations in my opinion determined the outcome of a game. Rules was broken teams paid fines and paid the price for breaking them. My main point is if I thought a team or the league was dirty I simply wouldn't support it. There is a thin line between what is considered cheating when trying to gain a competitive edge. I respect your opinion and views on why you quit watching soccer as you have had a legitimate reason. This deflate gate is iffy to me because judging by the games stats the pats did worst with the deflated balls specifically in the passing game, so where was the edge? the pats at there worst put up 21 points that game to the colts 7.

Nobody wants to hear what warren sapp or any other former player has to say about cheating its just tunnel vision on hating on the Pats but if you clearly hate cheating why not take into account all the stuff that has been going on regarding the league and just not follow it anymore?

Just to be clear on the Warren Sapp thing, his point in noting that his QB was doctoring the ball was that he didn't think it was a big deal and that screwing around with the balls isn't uncommon in his experience. Hell, before they changed the rules concerning special team balls, kickers used to cook them in ovens and all kinds of crazy stuff. Mike Vanderjagt used to fuck his.

This is irrelevant.

Going into the game it was clear the Colts would be relying on the passing game and the Pats would be running it.

Even as a Colts fan - there was no way we would have won this game, there's a huge gulf in class between the two teams.

But cheating isn't determined by the impact the cheating has on the game.

Breaking the rules is breaking the rules and should be punished accordingly. I don't really care about the degree, because the punishment will presumably match the egregiousness of the offense.

There's a difference between allegations and being found guilty.

Also, as mentioned above, the effect it had on the outcome is irrelevant. You still can't use stickum even if you're down 50 points.

lol! this post brought me to tears with laughter, thanks. Good old Mike Vanderjagt.

And for this issue, I don't think the punishment needs to be severe.

In an isolated incident, you'd probably be right.

But this wasn't an isolated incident, it was a violation by a repeat offender.

Anyway, I'm going to bed (just FYI), good night for a few hours!

Fines dont mean shit at the end of the day, and neither do draft picks.

The Saints were scorched for not even cheating.

Assuming the alligations are true, I dont even want the Patriots to be penalized. But Belichick should be banned from the NFL and ostrisized beyond the likes of Pete Rose. This is ridiculous. It is like reducing the size of the opponents hoop in an NBA game. It is straight up cheating.

That is assuming the claims are true. Which I am not going to do without more evidence. I also think Gisele should become a free agent and be banned from further contact with Brady whether or not this is proven.

This is so dumb. Colts had the properly inflated balls and only scored 7 points. Its the AFC championship game. You only score 7 your gonna lose period. Doesn't matter what the Pats did. So much Q_Q from Pats haters.

Nobody is saying the Colts would've won otherwise. It's beside the point.

You also can't put a point value on cheating.

That said, if they were going to beat the Colts anyway, why cheat?

It's because they're compulsive cheaters. Belichick can't help it. I don't think it's even just about winning for him. It's the sheer thrill of the cheat that gets him going.

why do people not understand that it doesnt matter what the pats did or did not do under the rules during the game when its the pats who got caught cheating

It does not matter who would have won the game. It just matters if there was straight up cheating going on.

National Forgiveness League

It'll be a minor punishment.

Primarily because we are talking about how inflated a football is. The advantage this offers has to be so minuscule. Also the Refs handle the ball before every down, and they didn't notice anything wrong with them until the third quarter? Yea I'd say it was a non issue. Wish the Patriots wouldn't resort to these kind of things, but then again in a game of inches there are many teams that have done things like this. Kickers over inflating balls, receivers using substance on their gloves to help them catch, Pete Carol has more players banned for PEDs than any other team (primarily Adderall), etc etc. All of which are breaking the rules, none of which on their own is going to win the game.

The ugly truth of Football (college and pro) is that if they "caught" every violation there would be no teams left to play.

I hope the patriots don't scapegoat some lowly ballboy or assistant and claim they were acting alone.

I am going to make a list of gafers who think cheating is just fine. I am genuinely incredulous at the basic lack of sportsmanship on display in relatively huge numbers tonight.

It's astonishing.

What a Fucking embarrassment.

You don't need a list. Just look at the avatars.

Cheating is not okay, but comparatively speaking I don't thing the punishment for defalted footballs is going to be that severe when so many similar to more to severe things are rampant and unchecked in football. This would have gone unchecked had a Colt player not brought it up, and the refs handle the ball before every down.

They may lose a mid to late round pick, and thats it.

If it didn't determine the outcome of the game than its not cheating. Its just a violation. Fine them some money and move on.

Colts scored only 7 points. And those 7 points came on a drive where the Pats were flagged like 3 times. The final score should have been like 52-0.

Pats haters continue the Q_Q

You don't seem to get it. It's a total embarrassment that the Pats felt the need to cheat against a clearly inferior foe. Shows a complete lack of class and respect for their competitors. It's like something a wwe villain would do.

This analogy tells me that you've never held a football in your life.

It's great though, the salt will look great on the bulletin board.

As a Colts fan, I have no doubt the Pats would have won that game regardless.

But the hammer needs to be dropped.

You don't give the star student in class a free pass when he/she gets caught cheating by saying, "Oh..well he would have made an A anyway".

Also, don't be stupid Pats fans. You can't blame this on the weather. If it was the weather, why weren't the Colts balls all 2psi under the limit? They also submitted their own 12 balls to be used in the game.

Sounds like cheating and bending the rules is fine anywhere, as long as no one gets hurt, etc etc.

Salty bulletin board? You have read so many fanboy sports posts that you can no longer even put together cohesive imagery.

Again. You clearly don't follow the NFL if you made that analogy.

And if you don't know what bulletin board material is then keep digging your hole as a bandwagon Pats hater.

Seriously lol, the fuck you talking about?

I think it's the fact that there's a psychological advantage. The only people that without a doubt knew that the balls were deflated were the Patriots so they were able to capitalize knowing that throughout the game. It's obvious the referees didn't check thoroughly, but just because you don't get caught cheating, doesn't mean that you weren't cheating in the first place.

There needs to be pretty good penalty for the team being repeat offenders.

I'd like to thank the football gods for making this a thing. I'm glad the attention is on this and not on that embarrassing Packers loss. :(

I totally agree. Cheating Pete should be banished for good, smh.

Question:

Did both teams play with the same balls or do they use their own balls separately? Not trying to justify or apologize for the Patriots, just curious.

I feel sorry for the folks who think that deflated balls is the only form of cheating Patriots did last weekend against the Colts.

Deflated balls is the minor compared to the other shit they were doing.

No I understand the concept, I just never thought my neogaf post would make the Patriots motivational bulliten board. You honor me.

But I am not salty, because I am not even routing against the Patriots. And I am certainly not a bandwagon Patriots hater. You did not fuck my team over. And your ignoring the entire premise of my arguement.

As someone who has held a football, a deflated ball is easier to catch, and in bad weather is easier to grip when passing.

Each team uses their own 12 balls submitted before the game. They are stamped with the team logo.

Simply stunning Belichick. Second offense...he should be suspended for the Superbowl. Anything less than that would be absurd. Let's see if Goodell actually has some balls. The sad part about all of this is that Belichick is one of the greatest coaches of all time...no denying that...but these violations will always put black marks on his accomplishments. I have no doubt if he hadn't cheated that he still would've won all the games he did and would've kicked our ass in the AFC championship this year. Just pathetic the level he feels the need to stoop to in order to get any kind of advantage

hey hey hey PEDs are ok deflated balls aren't. People clearly have one track minds towards cheating. Cheaty Petey the repeat offender still has a job but everyone is like banish Belichick! lol. Cheaty Petey known for having a team of guys juiced up is ok though.

So is Belichick, so might as fire them all. Then like, every other coach.
