#DEFLATEGATE: Goodell never had any balls

So is it true that the Colts leaked the "11 of 12 significantly under" story to the media?

We don't know, but that 11/12 thing was probably speculation by a reporter based on something

Basically lots of speculation right now with almost no new info

If Ian Rappaport's story is true, the NFL themselves are going to need to apologize as Kraft stated a week ago. Apparently it was Indy that leaked to Mortensen the bit about 11 of 12 balls being way under and that the league was "very concerned and upset". If that wasn't true, the NFL should have shut that story down immediately.

And what's now getting even funnier is Jerry Rice said the Pats SB should have an asterisk because of this. Then he was caught admitting he cheated. Today when called on that he said it was OK because everyone cheated back then. So not only did he admit to being a shitty cheater, but he threw everyone else under the bus too.

so all Super Bowls rice and the 9ers won all get a asterisk too I guess?

The judge overseeing the murder trial of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez has chastised his lawyer for making a joke about Deflategate while questioning a witness in court.

James Sultan was questioning a state police trooper about tire pressure Thursday when he jokingly asked whether the trooper had ever received "training in football deflation devices."

On Friday morning, Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh told Sultan that they are conducting serious business, and she does not expect there to be any more jokes. Sultan agreed and expressed regret.

I work in supply chain logistics for entertainment companies. I was speaking with an ESPN employee whether or not there was any merit to deflategate. They said "I've moved on and so should you."

ESPN moved on for several reasons:

1 - their lead Insider got trolled by a Colts representative
2 - the masses no longer care since the SB is over

The reason NFL fans shouldn't move on though is that there's still an investigation going on. Did the Pats cheat? Maybe. Did the Colts willfully deflate the one ball in their possession in an attempt to paint a team they couldn't beat as cheaters? Maybe. Does Goodell continue to look like a clown? Definitely. I want to see how this all plays out.

That is my take away too. I ended the conversation by telling them to keep their excellent work. They did not catch my sarcasm

I don't think this is true. With all the evidence mounting that this entire thing was nothing (at least no foul play on the Patriots), I think places like ESPN wish there was no interest in this.

Oh look, it appears that this is an officials' doing.

Report: NFL official fired in deflate-gate case for selling football

You can't make this stuff up.

The deflate-gate madness — a story seemingly with no conclusion — has taken another bizarre turn. It was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that an NFL official might have sold one of the New England Patriots' footballs from the AFC championship game and lost his job because of it.

It appears that the footballs are not allowed to end up in officials' hands. They're meant to be donated to charitable organizations. It appears a second official saw this and reported it, according to Schefter.

ESPN's "Outside the Lines" reported on Tuesday that Patriots locker room attendant Jim McNally was being investigated for "trying to introduce an unapproved football" — a K-ball, for what it's worth — to an official.

But Schefter flipped his own organization's reporting on its head by offering this wild nugget: the ball (or balls?) in question was/were provided by two NFL employees, one of whom was fired.

Are you following us here with this insanity? Basically, what's being suggested is that an official swiped out a real ball for a fake one and that the fake was handed to the Patriots attendant, who clearly was none the wiser. And why would the attendant suspect that?

How in the world can the NFL save face and issue any kind of guilt to the Patriots following this news? The answer: It can't. We might as well say "case closed" if the reports are valid.

The officials for the AFC title game against the Indianapolis Colts, for what it's worth, were head referee Walt Anderson, umpire Carl Paganelli, head linesman Tony Veteri, line judge Jeff Bergman, side judge Greg Meyer, field judge Gary Cavaletto and back judge Keith Ferguson.

Deflate gate always screamed of "it isn't proven but fans are talking like it is" to me, and that's why I'm very glad the Pats won the super bowl with perfectly inflated balls.

Well, isn't that a kick in the head. What a mess.

Goodell has not been impressive at all over the the last 12 months. He has no control over the organisation, he's blundered domestic violence and head injury controversies, and he's managed to piss off one of the most powerful owners in the league by not clamping down on the leaks. He left the Pats out to dry for way too long.

Pete Caroll handed it to them on a plate.

Brady had 4 TDs. Pats owned the Chickenhawks the entire fourth quarter. Pats took it. Literally and figuratively.

So he swiped one ball before the game and gave them the 12th ball? So I guess we now know how 11/12 were under inflated. Or am I missing something?

I believe they consistently refer to 11 of 12 footballs because one ball was thrown into the crowd after an early score.

The way Profootballtalk.com talks about it, it sounds like there's 3 league officials at each game responsible for testing the footballs. One of those three guys is then tasked with bringing those balls after the game to a charity selected by the NFL. They make it sound like the official is someone separate from the guys we think of as officials/referees, which is confusing to me since up until now we've been told the referees are the ones approving the footballs before a game. And so far there hasn't been any reports from the referee's union about a member being fired. This story gets weirder and weirder.

I'm on #TeamBrady, but this only accounts for 1 ball; not 11. Maths are not that hard.

Eleven of the 12 footballs used in the first half were judged by the officials to be under the minimum of 12.5 PSI, but just one was two pounds under. Many of them were just a few ticks under the minimum.

Do we have any idea which official tried stealing the ball and got fired? Kind of fucked up how ESPN can drag the attendants name through the dirt, a guy who probably didn't do anything wrong, yet won't name the official who actually WAS doing something wrong. I suspect union bullshittery.

ESPN is now saying the attendant who tried to introduce the wrong ball into the game was given the ball by an NFL official.

The unapproved kicking ball that sources told "Outside the Lines" that a Gillette Stadium officials' locker room attendant tried to introduce into the AFC Championship Game was handed to the man by an NFL official, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

This story gets funnier by the minute.

Man, this whole things is one of the most ridiculous sports controversies in recent memory. First, the reports say the Pats had 11 under-inflated balls on offense, that story changes over and over. Now, we find out it was a special teams ball, provided by the NFL, that wasn't used in game. Goodell and the NFL let this nonsense take away from an amazing SB match-up that actually delivered on the hype. Nice job, guys!

So, the question becomes, what is Kraft's next move? Is he going to let the Super Bowl trophy be his best revenge, or is he going to make Goodell's life a living hell until he resigns in disgrace?

Honestly, I'm all for Kraft methodically turning the rest of the owners against Goodell, then tightening the screws until he has no choice but to leave.

Patriots win the Superbowl, and persevered in the face of false and false accusations and slander.

Then they get rid of Goodell.

Would this pretty much make the Patriots the greatest heroes in the history sports?

I think Kraft will again insist on an apology for dragging the Patriots name through the mud. And I think the NFL will offer an apology for how the situation was handled.

It's like the Undertaker saying "Not Your's!" when Jake Roberts asked him what side he was on.

This has been a terrible year for Goodell, this could be it for him. It doesn't help that the owners paid him nearly $45M last year.

This just amazes me.

Who do you think leaked the new info to Adam S? My money is on the Patriots. This is ridiculous infighting. Goodell is gone. He can not control this, the leaks are incredible and he lost one of the most important owners in the NFL.

This is a good article (I like Tom E Curran a lot)

http://www.csnne.com/blog/patriots-talk/curran-another-black-eye-nfl-deflategate-quest

Curran clears up the mystery over the official versus referee confusion. The official is from the NFL league, not a ref.

He also claims the story about 11 of 12 balls being under inflated was bullshit. Apparently now it's 6 balls, and they were just a few ticks under.
