Deftones Album Teaser "Gore"

WP is my favorite but I love Diamond Eyes and KNY as well. Not THAT fond of SNW though, I mean its still Deftones so better than 90 percent out there but it feels inconsistent and a little slow, plus the production isnt that good imo.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for Saturday Night Wrist. That really got me back in after being a little disappointed with the self-titled. Looking forward to the new album. Gonna see again live for a 6th time.

I went through this in the last Deftones thread I remember posting in: SNW is fucking awesome, underrated, and probably my favorite out of all the band's albums. I'm listening to Kimdracula right now just to reinstate this point :3

Saturday Night Wrist suffers from the fact that it was released right after White Pony which is almost a genre-classic and followed up by Diamond Eyes which is even better then White Pony. So, most people tend to overlook it. I like quite a few tracks off SNW, but I gotta admit they don't see as much rotation on my music player as say, tracks off WP, DE and KnY.

EDIT:
Whoops, I messed up the timeline, SNW was released after their Self-titled. But the point stands, both the s/t and SNW were preceded and followed by genre classics, so tracks off these albums are bound to be played less.

Diamond Eyes is straight up a better album than White Pony and I say that as someone who used most White Pony tracks as music to sleep by, to wake up to and study during high school.

Furthermore, Koi no Yokan might not have as many good songs as White Pony but the ones that it does have are ALL better than the best tracks on White Pony. White Pony is still a near-classic in my eyes, but Deftones have built upon and indeed surpassed the songwriting on that record.
I love opinions like these. They really did long how to structure their songs better after White Pony and you can hear a lot of dream pop elements in them too.

I love SNW, it's one of my favorite albums to use for treadmill running. Combat, Kimdracula, Beware, Rats Rats Rats, Rapture, and Pink Cellphone are my favorites.

It was released 7 years after WP, with self titled in between. So that doesnt make sense ;)

Edit: I see you've edited :)

Anyway, the downplaying of self titled here surprises me. On Sharing Lungs, the big onofficial Deftones forum, its the favorite of like half the members, mostly split with White Pony.

Yeah, I messed up the timeline. My point still stands, just as I expressed in my hasty edit.

Indeed, they've not just gotten better at songwriting, but also at integrating elements other than straight up metal. I love it when bands evolve this way, which is why I love bands like Deftones, Anathema, Thrice and Fair to Midland.

My friend sent me this image. I don't know if it's legit or not, said it was posted on hasitleaked.com...

I've had that teaser on loop. I need more dammit!

Deftones have always been really hit or miss with me. Oddly enough, my favorite song is one with Maynard from Tool....Passenger.

I also think Chino having his hands in other groups helps the Deftones as well. I only know of Team Sleep, but those songs don't sound like White Pony B sides at all, they sound very unique to his Deftones work. How are his other groups any way? I've been sampling stuff while going through this thread and they really got better and giving their songs a sense of dynamics. Royal for example is a rather aggressive song, but at the same time it's go a really good sort of laid back melody to it. You've seen the Butcher has a haunting riff to it, but Chino sings the song beatifully in a brooding yet melodic sort way, while keeping his signature wail. Holy shit Prince is legit...no wonder why you like Diamond Eyes so much. I think my main problem is just that I just shuffle every song from the discography around to the point where I don't know what song is on which album, but the group as a whole shuffles around excellently.

Saturday Night Wrist is my favorite of theirs, so I have no problems with the albums not being heavier.

Hole in the Earth is their best opener.

Crosses is between team sleep and deftones, their one record is very much worth it to check out. But softer than deftones en no screaming but insanely catchy tunes. Palms isnt my cup of tea, its straight up prog rock.

Against Bored, My Own Summer, Feiticeira, Hexagram, and Diamond Eyes?

I'd argue it's one of their worst. That doesn't make it a bad song though. But hey, opinions.

The only song on there I like almost equally is hexagram. I really didn't dig diamond eyes. :(

I hope it's going to be much better than KNY, which is a terrible record. If it's anything like Diamond Eyes, White Pony or SNW, sign me up.

Yes i even saw passenger live. Without maynard though.

Even saw them live when a perfect circle opened for them and manyard refused to play ball. Oh well.

Crosses sounds good then. I'm also into prog rock (King Crimson, Rush, Yes fan) so I should also give Palms a listen.
??? Yes they have.

Diamond Eyes is great and Rocket Skates is one of their best songs.
I just don't consider it the same song without Maynard, that's my fault then. I'm listening to some Diamond Eyes now and god damn this is good. I've heard it before but for some odd reason I can never remember how good it is.

Sounds like Maynard, alright.

One of my best concert memories is being front row when they opened with My Own Summer and Chino stood on the crowd barrier for the song, towering right over me.
That same concert I slipped and fell in the middle of the mosh pit while making my way to the back. I thought I was gonna die. But some good samaritan instantly hoisted me up and I was able to get out of there.

I rarely check out side projects as a whole. I mean, I've listened to a few songs here and there but really I've always got such a huge backlog of full-time projects to listen to that I can never find the time to check out other stuff. Maybe someone else here could tell you more, I'd rather not give you a half-informed opinion.

I love Crosses. The Epilogue probably being my favorite. I never cared for Palms that much either.
This is...intriguing. This is like alternate universe Chino or something where he's not screaming about his marriage or messy divorce or something. This will take some getting used to, but it's not bad.

At least checkout Team Sleep, the stuff held up really well.
Team Sleep - Ataraxia
Team Sleep - Blvd Nights
Even Chino doesn't sing on all of the songs.

Fair enough, but they have done it with Maynard a few times.

And I felt the same way about Diamond Eyes. When it first came out and I listened to it I thought it was cool, but going back to it later I appreciated it much more.

Sounds about right.

I like it so far. Will listen to more of their stuff later on.

So live recordings do exist!! I thought this was like a magenta unicorn or some shit. I'm convinced Diamond Eyes is like a fucking drug or something. It enters your body giving you ecstasy and leaves your body without you even realizing you were hit with it.

Steph using a bunch of new equipment this album!! Saw an interview with him at NAMM, cannot wait for this album!!

Yeah, I saw that after posting. It reminds me of a mock-up I'd seen for Eros before. On reddit someone is claiming this is the cover...

Could be more fanart though.

That's the image that comes up if you Shazam the song. So that may be the cover for the album or for the single Prayers/Triangles.

Do you mean flamingos? If my post was unclear, I was commenting that I hope the flamingo cover I quoted was the official cover.

Sorry yeah i meant flamingos. Theyre revealing a piecd of the cover each day, this is the second day, my guess is 9 pieces so 9 days in total. Hope they drop the first single after that!

I want the single now. I've been looking forward to the Koi No Yokan follow up since I finished it the first time.
