Someone Photoshop the scoring signs from the dunk contest!

What's sad is that the only thing all those people in the audience are thinking of is food.

You think people hanging out with KJU in a stadium watching basketball are poor peasants?
Those are probably political and military elites. I'm going to go ahead and say they're doing fine for food.

"17:42 - 흑인 does not cheer with Dear Leader."

"17:47 - 흑인 cheers withough Dear Leader's approval."

"18:05 - Witnessed 흑인 in bathroom taking out long pipe he smuggled in pants."

I know they are the elite. One of the documentaries I watched on North Korea had N. Korean deserters/defectors that were being interviewed. One of them was a very high ranking official. He held the rank of a major general. He said everyone was hungry. Even the elite. No where the mass starvation going on among the peasants. He said the typical lunch portions in SK were considerably larger than the majority of NK meals he had.

Vice is full of assholes.

"Dinner was an epic feast. Felt like about 10 courses in total," Duffy said in an email to AP. "I'd say the winners were the smoked turkey and sushi, though we had the Pyongyang cold noodles earlier in the trip and that's been the runaway favorite so far."
@elmodernisto
Um... so Kim Jong Un just got the #VICEonHBO crew wasted... no really, that happened.
"We knew that [Kim Jong-Un's] a big lover of basketball, especially the Bulls, and it was our intention going in that we would have a good will mission of something that's fun." -Vice founder Shane Smith to the AP
"A lot of times, things just are serious and everybody's so concerned with geopolitics that we forget just to be human beings." -Shane Smith
Yea sounds awesome

As gawker points out these people might want to join too

So is Rodman trying to get attention for a better gig or something? This makes no sense. This can't seriously just be part of the attention garner tour for the next Apprentice season can it?

KJU does seem like he would be pretty fun to hang out with if you forget he's a crazy dictator.
Dennis gets a freebie for sharing one of his interests.

I think in his presence I would ask about the injustices in the country and get arrested immediately.

I don't think anyone on VICE is denying there aren't a lot of people dying and starving in North Korea but bringing that up within the context of their current trip would be counter productive

I don't expect them to bash Kim Jong-Il but those comments were made to US publications. When the google guy went over there I'm sure he was treated well but to tweet about getting "fucked up" with a dictator being awesome and how great the food was is over a decency line IMO. If there going over there to do some puff piece its outrageous.

That's true but the VICE guys and Rodman are trying to convey a different image to the public than Eric Schmidt was.

They're trying to portray King Jong-un as just a regular 'guy' who does 'guy' things like getting 'fucked up'. They're trying to make him more relatable and less threatening to a Western audience.

It's just propaganda, but if it has the benefit of warming King Jong-un up to the West or people in the West up to him then I think it's fair enough

Is North Korea paying people in the US to care about the country or something? Why the sudden interest? That google guy came around too what was the point?

They've done a documentary on how fucked up NK is.

Vice is full of assholes.

Shane Smith has been to North Korea 3 times now, and went first-hand to see the North Korean labor camps in Siberia. I'm sure he's well aware of the atrocities that go on in North Korea. But you know, Ping Pong Diplomacy *did* do some good back in the '70s, so I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, really. Will it work? Maybe, maybe not. But even the *possibility* that it could be helpful to US-NK relations makes it worth it, in my opinion.

Would be hilarious if Dennis Rodman years from now is historically seen as a better North Korean Diplomat than Bill Clinton.

How can someone be so out of touch that on your friend-o-meter, pleasant dinner conversation outweighs vast indifference to human life? I would be embarrassed to eat a huge meal while in N.Korea.

They're clowns. David Carr put them in their place in the NYT documentary "Page One"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLmkec_4Rfo

"Just cause you put on a fuckin' pith helmet and went to Africa doesn't mean you're some investigative journalist"

I was gonna reference that quote in my original post but forgot.
I mean I like their stuff but they have way to big of egos and think they're amazing because they film things in dangerous places. I mean I like some of their stuff but I'm with Carr on that
