Yep, it's all the sugar in the sundae that is really bad for you. It's pretty damn ironic that bacon is so often associated with fat people, as if bacon makes you fat, despite the fact that it is merely a small sliver of meat that was fried.

Bacon just gets a bad rap, man. Usually because it's paired with cheese or bread (both of which I also love, but those tend to be bigger offenders) or other terrible things. A couple strips of bacon a day or even some real bacon Bacon Bits aren't really going to hurt anything.

If you candy your bacon, then you might have some issues, as well (delicious, delicious issues).

I had bacon gelato that was incredible. It was good because it was just vanilla gelato with a few bits of bacon to give it a slightly smoky flavor. This Denny's thing is probably gonna be way too sugary and flavor-heavy to pull it off.
